The programme covers a range of activities including music, messy play, puppets and crafts. These activities are organised and supervised by the leaders of the group, all of whom are members of the church family here at BCC. Oaks & Acorns provides a safe and stimulating environment where children can learn through play, whilst carers can relax and enjoy a drink and chat. children s clubs (reception - yr 5) 5 alive (reception - yr 2) and 7up (yr 3 - yr 5) are action packed clubs that meet every Thursday evening at the Life Centre for a whole range of activities including big hall games, crafts, treasure hunts, themed nights and much, much more - as well as exploring different topics and themes from the Bible. contact person sarah constantine sarah@bournemouthcommunitychurch.com youth clubs (yr 6-11) At our Friday evening youth clubs, we do a mix of high energy activities like big team games, themed nights, messy nights and big events, as well as more chilled nights like quizzes, hang out nights and treasure hunts. We also make use of the area and on some nights we will go to the Beach or to places like Splashdown and Ringos.
our core values seniors (open door) At BCC, we have an over-riding purpose that guides everything we do and our three core values of loving God (UP), loving each other (IN) and loving the community (OUT) are demonstrated in different ways across the life of the church including our life groups, life communities and our life celebrations. Open Door is the name of a weekly daytime group for older people that meets on Monday afternoons at Bournemouth Community Church s Life Centre. We are a church based group for senior members of the community aiming to help, support and encourage one another. We meet every Monday at 2.30pm at Life Centre and our varied programme includes: Open Door... talks, activities and afternoon teas; Open Word small group bible studies; Open Worship afternoon services and social outings. contact person It s fun, friendly and open to all. For a detailed programme visit the welcome desk at Life Centre and pick up a copy of our latest quartely magazine ( Openings ). We want to see these core expressions of the Kingdom in every area of the church.the triangle is a shorthand way of explaining that we believe it s important to relate first and foremost to God (UP). As we grow in intimacy with the Father, we sense His heart both for his people (IN) and for the wider community (OUT). Some of the leaders of this group include: Ali Watts, John and June Martin, Anne Braybrook, Tony Moore, Suzie Tardif, Christine Waller and Sandra McCabe. ali watts adavey@bournemouthcommunitychurch.com
what we believe LIFEhouse The Bible reliably tells us everything we need to know about God, ourselves and the world. God made everything including us, keeps everything going and will complete everything. Jesus Christ shows us God perfectly and brings us to God. The Holy Spirit brings God s reality into our lives today. From God s perspective we human beings have great value, but have turned our backs on Him. We can t return to God on our own. Jesus brings us back through His death and resurrection, if we trust Him personally. When we become Christians we join a world-wide community - of which BCC is a part. God s goal for each of us together in this community is to increasingly become like Jesus. If we follow Jesus, our destiny is to be with God forever in a completely new environment. The alternative is to be away from God always. In a world that is increasingly full of problems - nationally, locally and often personally - we genuinely believe that Jesus cares for us and can change things. We have experienced that through Jesus Christ, no matter what our past, God offers us the chance to start again. Trusting in Jesus, we can know forgiveness, freedom and hope for the future. He is able to change lives and mend broken relationships. Young or old, married or single, religious or not, Jesus offers us acceptance, fulfilment and purpose. We are ordinary people, but we believe in an amazing God and our aim is to show His love to the community in a relevant way. The Life House is open 10:00am - 12:30 pm every weekday. It is a dropin that is run by volunteers every weekday morning and is an informal place where anyone can enjoy company, receive help or be signposted on to other agencies. Anyone is welcome into the Life House and we have several external agencies using the facilities as a drop-in during the week. Things going on at the Life House include: Foodbank: we are a distribution centre for Bournemouth Foodbank, so are able to give food parcels out to those who need it. We also collect non-perishable items of food to take to the Foodbank. National Careers Service: Careers Advisors come to the Life House and offer free impartial careers advice to any adult who needs help regarding jobs and careers. Bournemouth Pregnancy Crisis Centre: Based at the Life house they offer a free and confidential service. I*EAT: Confidential support and advice for people suffering with eating disorders. office@bournemouthcommunitychurch.com
one church three expressions At Bournemouth Community Church we express church in three main ways: Each of these expressions allow us to provide different but equally important ways for individuals, families and communities to do church together. Life Centre Welcome to Lifecentre one of the newest and largest conference and meeting facilities in Bournemouth. Lifecentre is owned by Bournemouth Community Church [BCC] and designed to be used by all parts of society from large commercial business to small local community groups trying to make a difference. Originally this art deco building opened in 1936 as The Moderne cinema boasting 1500 seats and operating until the mid 60 s when it was taken over by Coral then Gala Bingo until BCC bought the premises in 2009 and started the 5 to 10 year programme of transforming it from a tired old building to the vibrant hub of the community it is today. Lifecentre has facilities to cater for events from small breakfast meetings to 1000 delegate conferences, concerts, theatre productions, exhibitions and much more... We have a range of rooms available the Chine (180 seat capacity) the Harbour (1000 seat capacity) our lovely Café Moderne and lounge (open throughout the week from 10am to 3pm), and 3 break out rooms Park, Pier and Garden, (12-15 seat capacity). Rooms are available to hire throughout the week for private functions such as birthdays, parties etc. with heavily discounted rates for church members. enquiries@lifecentre.biz
life groups We don t want anyone to get lost in the crowd. So we encourage you to belong to a group of between 8 and 12 people that meets in someone s home every week (the location might vary as different members host the evening). The purpose of the meeting is to pray, chat, worship God together, discuss the main points of the preaching from the previous Sunday, grow in our love for God, get to know each other, laugh together, drink coffee and eat biscuits. Of course, part of our life together means discovering ways we can help each other with practical needs, reaching out to the local community and work colleagues, carrying each others burdens, etc. This means that we grow together and serve the people with whom we come into contact in daily life, at work, at the school gate, in the shops - wherever! contact person There s so much more to church life than Sundays! Making close friendships and feeling supported, loved, encouraged and that we re in this together is a hugely important part of why God has called us to be in this church. 6 life communities elders Responsible for the leadership and spiritual oversight of the church. A Life Community is like an extended family, typically of approx people gathered around a particular vision or interest. A Life Community s purpose is: to reach OUT to a specific group of people and build meaningful community with them through sharing the ups and downs of everyday life, sharing passions and relationship with God (Loving the Community). Roger Constantine Andy Driscoll Rob Hurley to come together at the Sunday Celebrations to be a community of communities, share what God has done and offer worship UP to God (Loving our God). to have one or more Life Groups in them allowing people to share IN the community and receive support and friendship (Loving each Other). Life Communities are an essential aspect of BCC as they accommodate different people groups, with different passions, giftings and strengths and use this as a base from which to serve each other, the local community, the town and beyond. 7 life celebrations On Sundays we meet at Life Centre, Wimborne Road, Bournemouth at 10:30am until just after midday. Our meetings are informal, with a lively all-age atmosphere. This includes a mixture of music, social interaction and teaching. Our desire is to respond to the needs and questions that many are asking and to do this in a way that reflects our belief in the teachings if the Bible. The prayer team is available each Sunday morning to pray with individuals as they require. The Team are identified by their badges. The children usually go out at some point during the meeting to take part in their own groups: beams (0 to 2yrs 9mths) sparklers (2yrs 9mths to reception) 5alive (Reception to year 2) 7up (Year 3 to year 5) xpress (Year 6 & year 7) xlr8 (Year 8 & year 9) 2xtreme (Year 10 & year 11) See the Church website for more details of what happens on Sundays
