2 FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Parishioners, Yesterday I had a chance to watch the movie I can only Imagine which is now in theaters throughout the country. It is based on the real-life experiences of Bart Millard who wrote the song I can only Imagine after forgiving his father from all the troubles and heartaches he caused Bart. The movie depicts true forgiveness, family, transformation and healing. I do recommend the whole family watch it. In the gospel this weekend Jesus tells His disciples that He loved them. That same love emanates from the love of His Father to Him. And through that love all of us are considered His friends, because true friendship happens when everyone knows how to live together in mutual love. This love is our pattern for the perfect love for our family, friends, and others. I ask you to continue spreading that love of God to wherever you go and whatever you do. The work on the Reconciliation Room and Ministers Room already started last week. The work will include mold abatement, tearing down and changing the sheet rock and installing new flooring. Please be patient as we improve these rooms so we will have a more comfortable space to receive God s grace and healing and a work room for our ministers. SEMINARIANS Please join Bishop Jaime Soto and the Office of Priestly & Religious Vocations, priests and seminarians, for this soccer match on Saturday, June 23rd at Cal Expo Papa Murphy Field. Must be able to stay over night and cook meals. She is very healthy and able to take care of her other needs. This is a paid position. Eric or Angie Scott in the parish office if you can help. CAMP PENDOLA Annual Family Camp is coming to Camp Pendola the weekend of September 1st 3rd. Family Camp is a special program that provides an opportunity for families to spend time together, away from the demands of busy daily schedules. It is designed to give families an opportunity to end their summer fun together with a weekend of activities and relaxation, surrounded by nature at our summer camp facility near Camptonville. Additional information and registration can be found at MISSION OUTREACH The monthly meeting of the Sacred Heart Mission Outreach group will be at Humble Joe s in Anderson at 9am on Thursday, May 10. The group finds and funds charitable projects throughout the world. Come enjoy a free breakfast and see what we re all about! If attending meetings isn t possible, you can always share by placing your contribution in the collection and designating it for the Sacred Heart Mission Outreach. LEGION OF MARY The Legion of Mary will have an information table available after all the Masses this weekend. Representatives from the Legion of Mary will be available to answer questions about their organization. Please stop by their table for a visit! MONTHLY SUNDAY BREAKFAST Join us this, th, 9am to 12:30pm in the parish hall for our monthly Parish Breakfast, prepared by our Knights of Columbus. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Our Parish Nurse, Sandy Downing, will conduct blood pressure screenings. No appointment necessary. MAY - THE MONTH OF MARY The month of May is the month which the Catholic faithful have especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, and it is the occasion for a moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world pay to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Catholics, both in church and in the privacy of their home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God s mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1). During the month of May, we are all encouraged to pray the rosary as much as possible. In the foyer you will find a handout on how to pray the rosary with all the Mysteries listed. Please feel free to take home a copy and give copies to those you know are unable to come to Mass.

Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48; 1 John 4:7-10; John 15:9-17 EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP Get Together was a popular song in 1967 by the Youngbloods. I was not alive when the song was released, but it was a song I played frequently learning how to play guitar when I was younger. The song called for all of us to come together and try to love one another right now. It was a song that came out in the Vietnam War era and during somewhat of a hippie revolution, but perhaps the words belong to no real moment in time. They are simply the commands of Jesus. Sometimes we minimize the power of love by cute pop songs and slogans that mean little without action. However, we can never underestimate the power of love. Love can tear down barriers between people, change tears to laughter, and mend relationships torn apart by sin. No option exists for disciples of Jesus Christ to not love others. Not only are we commanded to do so, but love is a gift we must pass on freely. If we give of our time, talent, and treasure, but choose not to love, we cannot claim to be truly committed disciples and good stewards. As this Easter season draws ever closer to an end, we must allow our love to bear witness to the source of all love, the Risen Jesus. This is our calling until, as the words of the Youngbloods song states, the one who left us here returns for us at last. -Tracy Welliver, MTS WEEKLY REFLECTIONS GOSPEL MEDITATION FOR MAY 6TH I have called you friends. Authentic friendship can seem hard to come by these days, especially in our transient society. We move away from family, change jobs, switch parishes, and end up in entirely new places with entirely new people. When we look for new friends, we all have different qualities we re looking for. While we may think of certain standards of behavior necessary to be a good friend, we would hardly refer to them as rules or commandments. In fact, if a friendship or romantic relationship--new or old--becomes characterized by imposed obligations, we would rightly be suspicious. Friendships, we understand, ought to be characterized by freedom. We love the person, even sacrifice for them at times because, within ourselves, we want to maintain the friendship. So why does Jesus use the language of command as he calls the Apostles his friends? You are my friends if you do what I command you. Jesus is radically transforming the concept of commandment. In the Jewish heritage of the Apostles, they would hear the word command and immediately think of the strict Levitical law and distance from God. In introducing the language of friendship, Jesus ties commandment to inner freedom of heart. The disciples have this freedom precisely because they know what the Master is doing. Jesus has invited his followers into intimate friendship all along. He shares openly with them. He has patience with their flaws. He isn t scandalized by their failures. He celebrates their successes. We, too, have been called by love and invited into a relationship with Jesus. It is you and I that Jesus chooses and appoints. He does so personally, not from a distant mountain shrouded in clouds. This "new commandment" to love one another is received around the shared table in the breaking of the bread. Who is most in need of your love and kindness right now? How can you be more loving to those most in need this week? For Adults: Concretely, how do you show love to others?
