Contact the Parish Office to register for Baptismal Preparation Class. Classes are held the first Thursday every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Faith Formation Center. At least one Godparent must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing. Matrimony: At least one party must be a registered, practicing member of either parish with at least 6 months active attendance at Mass. The Parish Office can provide Marriage Preparation information and paperwork. Ministry to the Sick & Homebound: Contact the Parish Office to arrange for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick or to receive Holy Communion at home. Funeral Mass/Burial Rites: To arrange for a funeral Mass or memorial service, contact the Parish Office or ask your funeral director to do so.

2 Through the Seasons with St. Thomas Aquinas A Christological study according to St. Thomas With Fr. Francis Hung Q. Le, O.P. Worship and Spiritual Life What can be said about the order of the Resurrection of Christ? In his first letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul writes, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. (1Cor. 15:20) And in his letter to the Colossians, he adds, He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent. (Col. 1:18) These texts indicate that Christ was the first to resurrect among the dead. However, in the same Sacred Scripture we also observe that there are prophets who did resurrect some persons from the dead. For example, the prophet Elijah raised the son of the widow of Zarephath of Sidon from the dead. (1 Kgs. 17:17-24) Again, the prophet Elisha raised the Shunammite s son from the dead. (2 Kgs. 4:21-27) Furthermore, with regard to the death of Jesus, the Gospel says that the tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. (Mt 27:52) In the light of these facts, especially gathered from the Old Testament, how can Christ be the first one to have risen from the dead? What could this teaching of St. Paul mean? How, then, would these facts be collated together in harmony with the Pauline affirmations about the primacy of Christ s resurrection? St. Thomas Aquinas offers a simple and reasonable explanation with regard to these legitimate questions: The resurrection of those who were raised before the Resurrection of Christ was definitive but provisional; that is, even though they had risen from the dead, they eventually died again, and their bodies will not rise again until the day when the universal resurrection of the world will have taken place. In the case of Christ, however, he rose definitively once and for all; his risen body will never undergo corruption, as St. Paul affirms, We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. (Rom. 6:9-10) What St. Paul is saying is that Christ is the first to resurrect among the dead; that is, Christ is the first person to rise definitively and forever; his resurrection is a true and perfect resurrection. (Ref. 5 Religious Education Announcements Are you getting married this summer or fall? Please contact Beth Rosales as soon as possible for Preparation for Holy Matrimony classes. Elementary Faith Formation is fast approaching its end of the year party in May! Please continue to pray for all our students, catechists and First Holy Communicants. On May 12 th, we will have approximately 115 children receiving First Holy Communion. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will enliven their faith in Jesus presence in the Eucharist. Elementary Faith Formation will be changing the day and time when we meet when classes resume October 9 th. Please keep your eyes open for registration throughout the summer. Keep in mind, if you have a child that needs to receive First Holy Communion and he or she doesn t attend IC&OLPH School, they must attend Elementary Faith Formation. Preparation for First Holy Communion is a two-year preparation experience. Vacation Bible Camp is looking for teen volunteers! If you become who God created you to be, you will set the world on fire. - St. Catherine of Siena Coordinator s Corner I was reading some literature about the Third Sunday of Easter. As the disciples traveled on the road to Emmaus, they experienced the presence of God in the company of Jesus. They experienced a healing presence, a loving presence and a compassionate presence. I was most intrigued by the compassionate presence. As we all have difficult times, conversations, decisions or simply an irritation with someone of something, this compassionate presence from you may ease the situation; also, looking for the compassion from the other person may help. It may be as simple as telling someone to hang in there, or to put fresh flowers on another s desk it does not have to be huge just show or receive the same compassion that our Lord has for us each day. ~Angel Parish Community Announcements Save the date! Fr. Bryan Hersey will be coming back on May 6 th to celebrate the 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses with us. After the 11:30 Mass, there will be a reception in Hensen Hall at Our Lady of Perpetual Help campus to wish Fr. Hersey God-Speed and farewell. Please come and celebrate with Fr. The pilgrimage will begin in Rome, with an audience with Pope Francis, visits to the four major basilicas, the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, the Catacombs, a city tour and a side trip to St. Benedict s monastery in Subiaco.
