Contact the Parish Office to register for Baptismal Preparation Class. Classes are held the first Thursday every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Faith Formation Center. At least one Godparent must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing. Matrimony: At least one party must be a registered, practicing member of either parish with at least 6 months active attendance at Mass. The Parish Office can provide Marriage Preparation information and paperwork. Ministry to the Sick & Homebound: Contact the Parish Office to arrange for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick or to receive Holy Communion at home. Funeral Mass/Burial Rites: To arrange for a funeral Mass or memorial service, contact the Parish Office or ask your funeral director to do so.

3 Pastor s Corner Worship and Spiritual Life Just a short anecdote and some great news. I was sitting in the waiting room at my dentist s office the other day and had some extra time on my hands so I was looking through the magazines they had on the table. I have always found the covers and headlines to be particularly fascinating. One would think that, should they read the articles within, they would be instantly popular, rich and famous in four minutes a day. The only hiccup is that not all the articles agree on the process for making said transformation come about. In fact many times they are straight up contradictory to one another. I m always impressed with the boldness of the claims, as was the case in this situation. The magazine in question was Health Magazine with the bold statement that Happiness begins here. I was struck by this for a couple of reasons, one being how in the world could you ever prove such a claim? Now I m perfectly aware that in reality they will never be called to the carpet on this statement but as a Priest I m highly attuned to the integrity of promises and pronouncements, that whole let your yes mean yes and your no mean no stuff Jesus talks about. The second was from a philosophical standpoint. If happiness is the natural fulfillment of the end that something was created for, it has a lot to do with existence itself and so to make a claim that Happiness begins here would seem to indicate that Health Magazine was the ground of being, but I digress. Our faith would tell us that living according to the image and likeness of Christ is why we were created and thus why we exist. Now while we would agree that being healthy is a natural expression of this fully realized life in Christ, Health Magazine really is not a necessary piece at all. What I find particularly interesting is that a magazine cover can make a claim like this with little push- back, but that the scriptural claims of Our Lord are questioned as problematic and sometimes offensive. In terms of manifested credibility, when was the last time the editor of Health rose from the dead under their own power? That s what I thought; game, set, and match Jesus. And now the good news! We have found a new Pastoral Assistant for Administration. After posting the position and going through interviews I have hired Jessica McCullough to be our new Pastoral Assistant for Administration. Jessica is a parishioner and school parent and a product of Catholic schools, so she is already well tied into our communities which will be hugely helpful for me. She has a solid administration background as well as some nice qualifications in building and construction, which will be helpful as well, considering our two large campuses that are always in need of upkeep. The World Apostolate of Fatima will be visiting the Archdiocese of Seattle and bringing the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady of Fatima Statue to reside for a day in several parishes for veneration, special Masses and other prayerful events. The Statue came from Fatima and was blessed by Pope Francis at the Vatican on October 23, 2013, ten days after he consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart. It has been visiting parishes all over the country since then. You are encouraged to stay after Mass to approach the statue and be enclosed in Our Lady s mantle in an act of veneration. Married couples are encouraged to approach the Blessed Mother and informally renew their vows in her presence. Wednesday, October 10 th will see the statue at Our Lady of Perpetual Help beginning at 3:00 p.m. and Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Statue will remain until 9:00 p.m. On Thursday, October 11 th, the Statue will be placed at Immaculate Conception in time for the 9:00 a.m. School Mass. We are hoping to have an additional Mass that evening, but no decision has been made as yet. We will need volunteers to assist the Custodians throughout the day at both parishes. Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection-September This annual collection (September 15/16 in 2018) supports the national and local effort of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) serves to combat domestic poverty and to implement the Church's social teachings. The Archdiocesan contribution to this national collection results in many grants supporting efforts in western Washington, including the Catholic Community Services PREPARES programs in many of our parishes, and for education in our parishes and schools on Catholic social teaching. Information on CCHD, this annual Special Collection, as well as the local and national CCHD grantees in this Archdiocese, can be found at our website:

6 Religious Education Announcements Our Elementary Faith Formation classes are full of great Bible Stories and activities to help support your child s faith journey. Please register as soon as possible. The deadline is September 21 st. Our classes begin October 3 rd, and the time is 6:00-7:00 p.m. Journey with Jesus Please come join us for our new program, Consoling the Heart of Jesus. We will learn about God s infinite mercy and how we can give him joy, consoling his heart, by accepting his love and trusting him completely. We ll discover how suffering can actually help us grow spiritually closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We begin on September 12 th at our new time, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in Hensen Hall on Our Lady of Perpetual Help Campus. We hope to see you and a friend! All are welcome.
