1 Walk In The Way Of The Lord Week of September 18th, 2017 Friday, September 22nd Casual Day Monday, September 25th Last day to register for Soles Walk for free and earn a casual day! St. Joseph School Soles Walk Link Wednesday, September 27th All School Mass 8:15 a.m. Planned by 5th grade Friday, September 29th Casual Day for those who registered for Soles walk by 9/25 Monday, September 25th Fey Tuesday, September 26th Gallegos-Navarro Wednesday, September 27th Hess Thursday, September 28th Mallinger Friday, September 29th Fey Dear Parents, I was so thrilled with the wonderful weather God gave us on Friday and Saturday for Oktoberfest. I know many of us were praying for a beautiful weekend and that certainly happened. It was so great to see so many of our school families, alumni and parishioners spending time together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that made this Oktoberfest so successful. First, I would like to thank Anne and Tony Mallinger, the Co-chairs of this event. I know they spent countless hours planning and organizing to make sure everything would be ready for Friday and Saturday, and they did an outstanding job! Their hard work and dedication continued throughout the entire weekend! Thank you so much for all you did, Anne and Tony! I would like to thank the sponsors that stepped forward to contribute to Oktoberfest. I appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness. I also wanted to thank the group of people who donated so many hours in service to help our co-chairs with set-up and continued to help in many ways throughout the entire Oktoberfest and even had some energy left for clean-up. I want to thank Michael Warren, Alioto s, and his crew of grillers and servers that provided the delicious food for the festival. I would also like to thank our Home and School members and their volunteers who organized and helped with the game area. I would like to thank Mrs. Chadek, Mrs. Menden, Mrs. Thurner, Mrs. Lengell and Ms. Meier for going into the dunk tank (something their principal was unwilling to do!) There were so many other volunteers of all ages, too many to mention by name, that helped at Oktoberfest. Thank you so much for volunteering your time! For those of you who attended Oktoberfest, I am sure you will agree that there was a wonderful community spirit throughout the grounds. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying each other s company. As I watched the volunteers serving food, snacks, and liquid refreshments, I thought we truly were Walking In The Way Of The Lord. We have so much to be proud of at St. Joseph Catholic School and Parish. I am so happy to be part of this wonderful community. God bless you, Ms. Cooney

4 A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters, in-kind donors and volunteers for your outstanding support of Oktoberfest 2017! Our sponsors and donors helped to make our vision a reality. Your monetary support helped to offset the costs of the bands, tents, signage and concessions. We feel so blessed to be part of a parish that filled over 425 volunteer slots, too. Everyone came ready to work with a big smile, and so many people who weren t schedule to work jumped in to help whenever needed. From parking lot attendants to concessions workers, cashiers and everything in between, we sincerely thank each of you for making this year s festival a huge success! And thank you to those who helped with all of the planning, advertising, communications and organization prior to the event. You helped to reach the surrounding community to make this a true community-building event. Last but definitely not least, a special thank you to so many who were by our side for four straight days you know who you are and we hope your tired feet have recovered by now! We couldn t have done it without you! God Bless and Thank You, Tony & Anne Mallinger

6 On September 11th & 12th, the seventh graders at St. Joseph Catholic School attended an overnight retreat at Timber-lee Christian Center in East Troy, WI. This retreat included a wide variety of quality programs and was an ideal environment for encouraging positive spiritual, physical, and mental growth. The classes that the students attended this year are part of the Outdoor Environmental Education Dept. at Timber-lee and are categorized under the three main areas of Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation, and Team Building. The students participated in canoeing and archery and learned about a wide variety of animals and reptiles. As the students participated in a number of team building games and obstacle courses, the Timber-lee counselors focused on the 5 C s: cooperation, communication, challenge, commitment, and caring. The evening campfire was followed by an exciting nighttime game of wolf pack. This retreat was a great opportunity that brought the class together as a group while helping to build character, assume responsibility, and develop an appreciation of nature.

16 With Whom Will You Share Jesus? In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus directly asks Peter, But who do you say that I am? And Peter correctly identifies Jesus in his response, You are the Messiah, the son of the living God (Matthew, 16:16). Jesus assures Peter in the Gospel of Luke, saying, Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men (Luke 5:10). What if Jesus asked you? What would your response be? Do we fear sharing Jesus with others? Jesus calls us just as he calls Peter. We, too, are catching men we are fishers of men (Matt 4:19). This is the mission of the Church, our mission as the Body of Christ. So, with whom will you share Jesus? You can share Jesus with others by inviting them to Alpha, beginning Monday nights on October 2. Better yet, accompany them on the journey and attend Alpha with them! Alpha is an 11-week course that builds relationship with Jesus and discover who Jesus really is. For more information or to register, go to Who do you know needs Jesus? Who will you invite?
