2 The 1 st Annual ECW Trunk Sale Was a Great Success! We sold over 30 spots and had a great turnout of buyers. Through the trunk sale, we were able to help so many organizations and the people they support: 1. We raised a total of $1200 of which $360 came from the bake sale. Those funds will allow us to supply 52 intake baskets to Safe Alliance, a domestic abuse shelter, which will cover them for 5 months. 2. The St John Bell Choir had a table and sold biscuits. They raised $ The Lunch Project had a lemonade stand and were sold out before the Trunk Sale ended and raised $53 for The Lunch Project. 4. The Salvation Army picked up all of our unsold goods and were thankful for the donations. 5. Mother Suz obtained a snazzy pink chair!! 4 Opportunities for Ministry Heat Relief Needed! June 2015 Update We are only 30 days away!! As of today, 80 kids are on the bus but I know that we can find the inspiration and gratitude to send 20 more to reach our 100 camper level of years past. To fully sponsor a camper for an entire week is only $350/camper! As we enter this season to honor the fathers and grandfathers in our lives, I hope you can find a place in your heart for Kanuga Kids as a possible tribute to them. There are special Father s Day dedication cards in the Parish Welcome Center. Kanuga Kids is also still in need of your time and talents. We would ask that you prayerfully consider volunteering as we have a few spots still open. There are a number of ways to serve these incredible children. Our most rewarding opportunity is to serve as a cabin volunteer and come spend a week with Mother Suz! You and your college age children or spouses can come up to assist the counselors from Monday July 6th mid -day until Friday July 10 th mid-day An additional way to serve is to come up and be a part of the Kanuga Kids Relief Pitchers. These volunteers can come up and stay at the Kanuga Conference Center or just come for a day to relieve the St. John s volunteers and assist the kids with camp activities like Arts & Crafts, Canoeing, Ropes Course, Archery, Dance, Nature Hikes, etc. Our last volunteer opportunity is to partner with Judie Ratcliffe on Sunday, July 5, to prepare lunches for the campers as they ride the bus to their week in the woods. If you feel called to contribute your time and talents to Kanuga Kids, please Ken Loeber at ken.loeber@cnlcre.com or call him at or you may contact Cathy Harrison at St. Johns. You can also mail or drop a check to Janet Brown at the church and indicate Kanuga Kids in the subject line. Thank you again for your support of this ministry, these children and this legacy. Box fans are desperately needed for the elderly and shut-ins during this heat crisis. Bring box fans to the reception area. Nancy Joyner will deliver them to Crisis Assistance. Please respond quickly. Questions? Call or Nancy Joyner at or nfcjoyner@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your generous sharing of your gifts with those less fortunate. A New Way to Participate in Worship We are trying out a new way of getting members of the congregation engaged in worship this summer. At the Saturday 5:00 and at the Sunday Contemporary Services we will have helping roles for worshippers to choose as they enter the worship space. There will be a basket of cards at the entry to the worship spaces that will have Read a Lesson, or Help the Usher, or Help the Band on printed on one side, with a clear set of directions printed on the other side. Families and individuals are encouraged to participate--there are some kid-friendly options like Collection Baskets and Bread & Wine. This is an excellent opportunity to try out a new helping role, either by just jumping in or by shadowing for a week or two. You may also request a quick training session with either the priest or a verger/worship coordinator immediately following the service in order to prepare to take on a specific role at a later service. We will continue to schedule chalice bearers, because this ministry requires licensure by the bishop, but other roles will be filled via this new system for these services (Saturday at 5:00, Contemporary at 8:45 on Sundays) through the summer. This is your worship--we hope you ll find it meaningful to participate by lending a helping hand! God bless you. Ken Loeber
