1 Sunday June 5, 2016 Do whatever he tells you. By Reverend Richard J. Mowery Icon, The Wedding Feast at Cana, written by parishioner Peggy Gaizauskas. Do whatever he tells you (John2:5) is a verse from the Gospel of Saint John. It takes place during the wedding feast at Cana. This is the command given by Mary to the servants. This same passage is used on the back of my holy cards for my Ordination and it is also engraved on the bottom of my chalice. This verse is a great reminder to me of who Mary and Jesus should be in our lives. When Mary is speaking to the servants, she is also speaking to all who will follow her Son, Jesus Christ. Mary knew what her son was capable of, and this is where she placed her total trust. We should have the same courage and trust when we follow our Lord. In this passage, the servants did what Jesus asked of them. They ended up pouring the water in the vessels without complaint. That is when the miracle happened when Jesus turned ordinary water into wine. Do whatever he tells you is the way we need to follow our Lord. We are asked by Our Lord to follow Him solely and unreservedly. (continued)
2 Do whatever he tells you. (continued from cover) Before becoming a seminarian, I had a good life. I was in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, I worked as a heating and air conditioning technician; I owned my own home. However, there was something missing. I went to church when I could and even sang in the choir. But it was not until I listened to the Lord while at a Cursillo weekend that my life changed. Throughout the weekend, I felt the Lord calling and drawing me closer to Him. After that weekend, I started to truly live out my Christian faith. Something in me changed. I strove to become a better person. I made Church not just a Sunday obligation; I made Church part of my life. When I made the Church part of my life, I discovered my relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Up until that point, I had no direction, even though I had sensed from time to time that God might be calling me to the priesthood. It was not until I changed my ways and directed my actions to the Lord that He was able to work with me. This is when the Lord asked me again to become a priest. It was only at this point that I finally had the courage to tell the Lord, Yes. This verse, Do whatever he tells you, reminds me of who I was, who I am, and who I strive to be. This is a reminder for all of us. When our Lord calls us, regardless of our state of life, we must respond. As we answer the call we allow ourselves to be transformed by God s graces. The Lord calls us to live out our faith daily. God wants nothing but the best for us. It is when we follow Jesus and do whatever He tells us that he can work miracles in our lives. I want to say thank you for all of your love and encouragement. This will always be my home parish and you will always be my family. Please know I will always keep you in my prayers wherever I might be serving. God bless you.

(The people of Saint Peter in Columbia may not yet realize how blessed they are, but they will!) Father s schedule is complicated by a number of demands right now, but we will have the opportunity as a parish to send him off with our love and blessings. We just can t set a date right now. REVEREND STEVEN ARENA, who served our parish as a deacon this past year, will return to celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving Sunday, June 12, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in Menniti Hall. WELCOME to our seminarian-in-residence this summer, Bradley Fischer. He will be working on a number of assignments. Be sure to introduce yourself! PRIEST IN RESIDENCE Father Tony Eseke, ordained July 27, 1996, in the Catholic diocese of Idah, Nigeria; will teach Communications and Public Relations at Messiah College, and will be in residence here at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. He will arrive at the beginning of August. QUO VADIS DAYS JUNE 19-23: Quo Vadis Days is a time of recreation, fellowship, prayer, and discussions to help young men explore our Lord s call in their lives Activities include hiking, games, bonfires, recreation and sports (soccer, capture the flag, volleyball, swimming, Ultimate Frisbee, flag football), talks, great food, and discussions. FIAT DAYS JULY 5-8: A retreat for young Catholic women who want to learn more about consecrated life, to deepen their faith, and to better discern God s call in their lives. Activities will include talks from religious sisters about vocation discernment and their communities, recreation and sports, great food and discussions. Both events include Mass, Adoration, Rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, and other prayer opportunities. Visit vocations, or vocations@hbgdiocese.org to register. MORNING FAITH MATTERS: In Lesson 21 of Galatians (3:1-4:31), Paul instructs us on how to get to know God. He tells us that because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father! The word Abba translates as Daddy. That s how you can approach the Almighty God. Join us in the Bayley Conference Room at 9:30 on Wednesday morning to hear what else Paul has to say. Next week concludes the study of Romans and Galatians. In your charity please pray for the repose of the souls of parishioner Joseph J. Jurewicz; and Edward F. Mark, Sr., father of parishioner Tina Marie Simington.
