P A G E 3 Depending on Him I have called you out of darkness into my marvelous light. I brought you not only out of darkness but also into my royal family. I clothed you with my own robe of righteousness making you fit for My kingdom. You are one of My own special people: You belong to me, and I delight in you. From Jesus Lives by Lucinda Secrest McDowell Plano Food Pantry For the month of JANUARY we have been ask to bring CEREAL and ONE POUND BAGS of RICE. Thanks again for your con nued support of this important ministry. Nancy B. Bible Trivia Did you know? Where was Rachel buried? 2. What was Abel s occupation? 3. Whose lips were touched with a live coal? 4. What was Cain s occupation? 5. Who made an ax head float? The answers to these questions can be found on the last page of the bulletin!
P A G E 4 Welcome to a new year! There can be something magical about the beginning of a new year. On that moment when the clock strikes midnight, you are a new person! You can change anything, be anyone, do anything. And then we wake up, and maybe for a few days, weeks or month we hold onto that feeling. I mean, we have purchased the new storage containers, or filing systems, or money management programs. We have joined a gym or got new shoes for working out that is going to sweep us from our steady walk into a running fitness buff. I m exhausted already! I hate to be the one to tell you, but there is nothing magical about midnight between December 31 and January 1. Midnight happens 365 days of the year. Every morning we wake up with the possibility to be and do different and better. Every moment of the day offers us that same exact opportunity. Every breath, every heartbeat we are new. Live into that moment. Christ did not celebrate New Year s. If He did, it is not in the Bible. He lived in His moments, and offered to share those moments with some really unlikely people. Jesus shared with sinners, the unclean, the unloved and unwelcome. He shared His moments with men, women, children and the aged. He didn t just share his wisdom, He shared his love. Every moment, every day, and in every way He could. And He asks the same of you. Go into this moment and the next determined to do so with God at your side. Walk into your moments knowing that Jesus is with you, that you are not alone, and that you have been given every tool you need to be who you can be. The filing systems, money management tools and yes, those new sneakers are all great. Use them, or not. God, Christ and the Holy Spirit? Those will make your days brighter, your life more fulfilled and your moments shiny. T H E L I N K
P A G E 5 Young at Heart The monthly dinner group will meet on Thursday, January 18 at 6:30 PM at Greek Isles Grille and Taverna located at 3309 N. Central Expy. #370, Plano, TX Please be sure to let Jeff or Gena Hurst know if you ll be attending. A Message from your new DCC Board Chair As we begin 2018, I would like to personally thank all of you who volunteered to serve, or said yes when you were ask to serve in the coming year. It will take all of us working together to make it a successful year. I am looking forward to the year with great anticipation for what the Lord has in store for DCC. I want to thank Rick Boyer for three great years of leadership. As board chair I will strive to follow his example. I think we have put in place a very strong Team who want the church to not only survive, but to grow. So, once again I thank you for your confidence in me as board chair and I look forward to the challenge. Nancy Bertschi
P A G E 6 Connectors What is a connector you ask? Actually, some of you might not have asked that, but I want to share with you my vision of a connector anyway. Remember the first time you entered Disciples Christian Church? Hopefully there was someone at the door, opening it with a smile and words of welcome. That is a connector. Maybe you needed help getting a walker or wheelchair out of your car, and someone came and offered to help. That is a connector. Were you a little lost, a little scared, and not sure where to go? Someone might have offered to get you a cup of coffee, introduced you to a member, and offered to show you where our sanctuary was. That someone would have been a connector. Those who are officially serving as a connector are usually asked to be at the church by 10:00 and to stay at the door until shortly after service starts. It is hoped that you will assist with wet umbrellas, wheel chairs and walkers, offer coffee and an introduction to a member and a brief telling of where the sanctuary and restrooms are. You are asked to serve no more than once a month, if that. Most of all, you are asked to be friendly and to personify the radical welcome of Christ to all who come here. Connectors come in two (at least) different ways. We do have people who have specifically offered to do these things, and they are vital. Every Sunday we depend on them to be there, ready to offer a welcome, assistance, and a friendly face to member and visitor alike. But every member also serves the vital role of connecting with each guest, with sharing self and our church with them. These are just as vital, just as important. Whether you are on the list of official Connectors below, or serve as a welcoming mem- ber, I am so very grateful to you. Connectors for 2018: Patti Boyer, Fred Hughey, George and Sharon Tung, Gary Snyder, Dave Bell, Susan Shaw, Joy Stoffer and Rebecca Nilsen If your name is on the list and you didn t want/expect it to be, please let Jan Carter (Admin Assistant Extraordinaire) know and she will remove you. If you want your name on this important list? Please let her know and after we do the happy dance, you will be added!
P A G E 7 Play Ball! I know it is January, cold and dreary as it may be, but the hope of spring lays just around the corner. With that come wonderful things like Baseball! April 8 th we will once again be sitting in our great seats at the Rough Rider Stadium cheering those Rough Riders on to victory! Tickets will be $20.00 each. These tickets will get you a souvenir, unlimited access to Grab-and-Go hot dogs, chips and drinks, but most of all a great day of relaxation. We will see you at 3pm on the 8 th! Please let Rebecca know as soon as possible how many tickets you want! First Sunday Fellowship Over the last few months, we have gathered after service on the first Sunday of each month for a short period of good eats, good laughs and the opportunity to get to know each other better. Last week we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with small bottles of water, and we have wonderful arrays of sandwiches, punch, cookies and cakes. But it is not about what the food is, or how fancy it is. It is the opportunity to spend a few extra moments with each other. In February we will not have First Sunday Fellowship because of Scout Sunday and the luncheon afterwards. We are looking for a host for March and July and beyond. Please sign up, and whether you do something as simple as bring a store purchased box of cookies and a jug of water, or go all out if they spirit so moves you, help us have opportunities for community, connection, love and laughter.

COOL BEANS YOGA: every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7 pm We are a fairly athletic yoga group who practice integrating the body, mind, and breath. We have many different levels in the class and everyone modifies as they need; no experience is needed and everyone is welcome! We try very hard never to cancel so when the instructor is away, members of the class participate in leading. In order to follow Jesus and worship God: We will live and tell the good news of Jesus Christ in all we do; we will serve our neighbors; and we will minister to our fellow Christians.
