Today we celebrate that the child born in the darkness of night in a lowly manger is revealed as the manifestation (the meaning of epiphany) of God. Christ is revealed in many ways: as Lord, as King, as the one in whom God is present and acts. All of these manifestation are lights that shine on Christ, revealing a deeper understanding of who he is. Traditionally, three events in the life of Christ are remembered today as manifestations of God s presence and action through Christ: the visit of the Magi, the wedding feast of Cana and the Baptism of the Lord. This is also National Migration Week. In an age where millions are refugees and migrants we remember families throughout the world that face devastating hardship and displacement. Fr. Barrel Room Next week, the Collection for food will be for St. Jude & clothing will go to the Action Center. Special Collections We are asked by the Archdiocese of Denver to take up collections throughout the year. This month St. Jude will continue our tithe as a Stewardship Parish and recognize: Retirement Fund for Religious on January 7. This benefits more than 32,000 elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, & religious order priests. Most elder religious worked for years for small stipends, leaving a substantial gap in retirement savings. This offers financial support that helps religious communities provide loving care for older members while ensuring younger ones can continue their good works. How can you help the Youth? Have the following Items? We are in current search of bean bag chairs, mason jars, a cracked window lying around, café style tables and chairs, a full size foosball table in good condition, and 84 black out style curtains in solid colors. We are currently not looking for any couches or other large furniture items at this time. If you can provide something that is on the list, please contact Megan to arrange for drop off or pick up so that items don t get left outside for long periods of time. Interested in Service? We are currently looking for an adult male over 21 to volunteer and chaperone a week long Mission trip July of 2018 in Longmont with Megan and the teens. 3 St. Jude Parish a Stewardship Community January 7, 2018 Around St. Jude The Epiphany of the Lord Here s that beautiful story again. You know the one. Three immigrants, following a Star, cross unnamed borders, have an interview with a Crazy King, joyfully reconnect with the Star in Bethlehem, and make their presence (presents) known to Mary and Joseph. They could have succumbed to Herod s flattery. They could have sent a message to the palace, saying, Oh yes, great and wise king, your humble servants have been the first to locate the King of the Jews! We ll return for our finder s fee, and perhaps a place of honor in your cabinet. But they were too prayerful, too intuitive, too full of wonder to do anything so risky to The Child. They had, after all, seen his star rise a full two years earlier. They left all the comforts of language, food and citizenship in order to find the One whose star drew them away from what they knew into the endless depths of what can never be fully known. And so they entered the house over which the Star hovered, and nothing has ever been the same. And when it came to them in a dream not to return to Herod, they paid attention to that dream and went home another way. If even one of them had defected and said, This is my time to get rich and famous and I m selling this scoop to the tabloids, he could have made a run for Jerusalem and made Herod a very happy man. The soldiers would have intercepted the Holy Family before they ever left Bethlehem. But not one of the Magi desired anything but to find him for whom his heart longed. Very wise men, indeed. The committee also sponsors a luncheon for the elderly in the Fall, a clothing drive in the Spring for The Action Center, and coordinates our 911 Assistance Program. Eucharistic Adoration Monday 4-8 p.m. and First Friday 8:30-4:00 p.m. *Anytime the Parish Offices are closed, there will be no Eucharistic Adoration. Organizations and Ministries Elsewhere Hands of The Carpenter, a local nonprofit serving low/fixedincome single moms and widows, will be conducting a Car Care Clinic on Saturday, January 20th at our new location on S. Golden Road. The clinic consists of a vehicle assessment and oil change, while moms & kids enjoy refreshments and activities. Visit us at Light of God Prayer Community meets Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Lower Level of the Community Center focusing on Jesus Christ through prayer, song & scripture all with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and His gifts. Outreach Assistance For those facing temporary financial setbacks: financial assistance is often available for rent assistance, utilities, food, etc. Please arrange for an appointment by calling Our Lady of Perpetual Help Rosary Makers We meet every 2nd Monday of the month 9:00-10:00 am in the Community Center Lower Level. All new comers are welcome and we will even teach you how to make rosaries (many different options). Rosaries are sent to the military, missions in U.S. and foreign countries, nursing homes, hospitals. If interested stop by and join our group. There are many jobs to accomplish and sewing experience is not necessary. Questions, call or The Gabriel Project assists mothers and families in need during a pregnancy by promoting the sanctity of life. To make a confidential inquiry for anyone in need in the metro area, call The Stephen Ministry program provides confidential one-on-one Catholic Christian care to individuals in the congregation who are experiencing difficulties in their lives such as grief, death of a loved one, illness, divorce, financial difficulties and more. Please call the office at before or after the child's birth, before you choose godparents. Adult Baptism is part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). For information, please call Deacon Mike at x16. Marriage: Those who wish to be married at St. Jude Church must be registered in the parish for at least one year. Sons and daughters of registered parishioners may also be married here. A 12-month preparation period is required.
