1 EVENTS LENTEN QUIET DAY AT WOLLASTON Saturday 3 March 9.30am pm Wollaston College Chapel 5 Wollaston Road Mount Claremont $40 (concession $35) Bring your own lunch Exploring Jesus Wilderness Experience guided by Michael Pennington Then Jesus was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. It would seem that, what of necessity must follow the realisation and affirmation of Jesus identity is the process of his working out and testing its implications. It is only as we realise who we are that we can work out what we must do. Mission is consequent to identity. This, it seems, is true for Jesus as indeed it is for each of us and what is true individually is also true for us corporately as the faith community. Registration required michael.pennington@eftel.net.au THE MAPSTONE CHORAL SCHOLARS PRESENT - AMICI Friday 9 March 7.30pm - 9pm Church of the Resurrection 105 Shenton Rd Swanbourne $30 (concession $20) The Mapstone Scholars, as well as special guests the Mapstone Junior and Senior Choirs, will present favourites including Allegri's Miserere, Widor's Toccata and Bach's Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring. 7 ANGLICAN ECOCARE RURAL-URBAN PARTNERSHIP EcoCare is organising an initiative to bring together rural and urban parishes. Urban parishes will be linked with a rural parish to help care for God s creation through tree-planting and other activities. By replanting communal and public areas as well as church land, we will be directly assisting much needed ecological restoration of the land. This is a great opportunity to connect with other sisters and brothers in Christ, foster new relationships and overcome the city-country divide. Contact the Project Officer - ecocare@perth.anglican.org PRESENTATION BY ST BARTHOLOMEW S HOUSE St Bartholomew's House provides accommodation for 500 people a night. If your parish, school or church group would like to hear of St Bart's mission to end homelessness please contact the Chaplain, Ross Jones to arrange the day and time of that presentation. You can contact Ross on chaplain@stbarts.org.au or stbarts.org.au BIBLE STUDY RESOURCE EXCHANGE Would your parish benefit from access to a wide range of Bible Study Materials at a reasonable price? I am seeking parishes that have sets of Bible study materials either among the parishioners or held at their parish centre who would be willing to have these catalogued and made available to other parishes in our diocese on loan. A small charge could be paid to the parish for use of the resource to help purchase new materials. If you are interested please contact Bruce Hyde parish.office@allsaints.wa.edu.au STAMP COLLECTION FOR ABM In 2017 we sent $1,600 to ABM from stamp sales. Unfortunately, the number of stamps coming in has greatly reduced, so it would be helpful for rectors to remind parishioners to please save them for ABM. They can be dropped at Church House. LEVER ARCH FILES AVAILABLE Church House has many two ring lever arch files, A4 and foolscap (second hand) available to anyone who needs them. They can be collected from reception on the fifth floor. PRAYER DIARY UPDATE The Prayer Diary is now produced monthly as an easily downloadable and printable booklet/sheet which will be both economical and efficient for everyone. The diary is available on the diocesan website. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the lectionary which is available to buy from St John s Books Fremantle. perth.anglican.org/resources/liturgy-and-prayers/prayer-diary/ 7 The Diocesan E-Bulletin 23 February 2018

8 NOTE TO PARISHES ON REFERRING A HOMELESS PERSON Parishes often encounter people struggling with homelessness, sleeping rough with no income, no fixed address, no identification documents and no Centrelink help. They might also have limited English skills. Day centres can be a useful service for the homeless, where staff will accommodate and care for them in the short term, link them to available long term accommodation and break through the issues of no income by connecting to Centrelink after organising necessary documents. Mark Davis is CYM Missioner (Training). His focus is initiating and developing education and training for those involved - or seeking to be involved - in ministry with children and young people. He also assists people across the Diocese seeking accreditation in ministry to young people. The Reverend Lisa Spargo works on children and young people at significant stages of transition in their lives and how faith formation can be nurtured and encouraged at these points. She is working with parishes, schools, and other places where young people seek to strengthen and retain their own faith remaining committed to Christ and his Church, while navigating moves through life. Lisa and Mark were commissioned on February 18 by Archbishop Kay. Please pray for them in their vital work for the Diocese. DISCERNMENT TO THE ORDAINED MINISTRY In every generation, the church looks for those for whom Christ s insistent call disturbs their settled lives. The Archbishop s Examining Chaplains pray that God will move the hearts and minds of many to consider discerning an ordained ministry. If there are members of your worshipping community, school or agency who might be thinking of a path to ordained ministry, please invite them to contact the Archbishop s Examining Chaplains Committee through its Chair, the Reverend Canon Dr Philip Raymont.
