2 Notices Women's World Day of Prayer: a service to celebrate Women's World Day of Prayer will take place at St. Paul's Church, Chichester on Friday 6 th March at 2pm. The service this year has been prepared by the Christian women of The Bahamas. Soup will be served from 1.00pm. All are welcome. Diann Berry ( ) Lecture: 'The Body beautiful? Body, Soul, Spirit and Mind in the writings of Paul' by Dr Paula Gooder: Tuesday 10 th March at 6.30pm, in the Cathedral Nave. Free Entry, all are welcome. This lecture is hosted by Chichester Theological Society (a collaboration between the Cathedral and the University of Chichester). The phrase the body beautiful brings to mind the glossy pages of endless magazines which all seek to encourage us towards a more beautiful body. Many people assume that Christianity in general and St Paul in particular has nothing to say in such a context. In fact many would assume that Paul was positively against anything to do with the body. The reality is somewhat different. Paul does have a vision of the body beautiful, one that could change our perception of bodies radically. In this lecture Dr Paula Gooder explores something of this theology and asks what difference it might make to how we live our lives. Chichester Cathedral Friends' monthly coffee morning will be held on Friday 6 th March from 10am to 12pm in George Bell House. All welcome, and why not bring a friend too! 3 For those who are new to the Cathedral If you are new to the Cathedral congregation and would like more information about the life of the Cathedral or membership of the Cathedral Roll please give your name and address to a steward or ring the Cathedral office during office hours, Monday to Friday, on Children s Activities on Sundays A crèche and children s group, Pebbles (ages 2-11), meet in the Canons Vestry each Sunday during the 11am Sung Eucharist. If your children would like to join the group please ask a steward for more information. Parents are welcome too! Toy bags are also available during the service. Local Events The Community Committee have compiled a list of local events that might be of interest to the Cathedral Community. This list is available in Reception and also on the Cathedral website, in the About Us section, on the Cathedral Community Downloads page. Elections to the Cathedral Community Committee: At the Cathedral Annual Roll Meeting on 28 th April we shall be electing members from the congregation to replace those who have come to the end of their term of office. The Committee fills a vital role in ensuring that the congregation is able to make its views known and is consulted by the Dean and Chapter on matters relating to the life of the Cathedral. Could you serve the Cathedral in this way? Whether you are a long standing member of the congregation or have joined us more recently we should welcome your interest. 4 Notices continued The revisions of the Cathedral Community Roll and Synodical Roll will take place between 13th March and 8th April, in accordance with the Church Representation Rules This is an update and not a complete re-build. If you have been a regular worshipper in the Cathedral for six months or more, or work regularly in the Cathedral as a member of staff or a volunteer, or live in the Close, and are aged over 16, you may apply to be on the Cathedral Community Roll. You will then be entitled to vote at the Annual Meeting and be eligible to stand for election; similarly lay persons may also join the Synodical Election Roll. It is important that those people who regularly attend the Cathedral do join these Rolls thus ensuring that there is proper representation within the Diocese and within the Cathedral s own community. It is possible to be on the Cathedral Roll and on the Electoral Roll of a Parish church, BUT one cannot vote or stand as a representative of the Synod of more than one church or the Cathedral. Please complete an application form: these are available from stewards after Sunday services today, the Vergers or the Cathedral Office. They must be handed to a member of the clergy for the required counter-signature before 13 th March. Please read the NOTES which are on the reverse of the form carefully and complete Section 2 and Section 3, if appropriate, as well as Section 1. To confirm that you are already a member of these Rolls and that the details are correct, please check the Rolls which may be seen in the Cathedral office, or contact me. 5 Notices continued Friends volunteer required to assist the Hon. Membership Secretary Chichester Cathedral Friends is a membership organisation with over 1600 members. The Hon. Membership Secretary is responsible for all aspects of our day to day contact and communication with members and we are looking for a volunteer to assist with this important work. The work includes enrolling new members, keeping track of existing members, processing subscription renewals, donations and Gift Aid claims and responding to enquiries received by telephone, and post. This is a part-time opportunity, up to two or three mornings per week and you will be expected to work in our office located at the Cathedral. You will need to have basic computer skills such as , letter writing and document filing. We will provide training on the use of our Membership Database. Friends volunteers required to assist with our Events Programme Chichester Cathedral Friends organises and runs a full programme of social and cultural events open to members and non-members alike. We are looking for volunteers to help us maintain and develop our events programme by coming up with ideas for new events and taking responsibility for making sure that our existing and new events are organised, publicised and run. The work includes attending planning meetings and liaising with Cathedral departments and external organisations to make the necessary bookings and other arrangements and to ensure that your events are effectively publicised. Planning meetings normally take place every other month in our office located at the Cathedral and last for half a day. Much of the other activity will involve and telephone work and you would be able to do this either from our office or from home. You will work closely with and be supported by a nominated trustee and other Friends volunteers. If you would like to find out more about either of these opportunities, please get in touch with us. We can have a chat to find out what you are interested in and to provide you with information about this and other roles for which we need volunteers.
