Join us for coffee, donuts and fellowship this Sunday, December 10, after the 9:30 Mass. Dear Friends, As we continue to move through the Advent season, I hope each of you is finding the ways to rest and relax a bit with the Lord in the midst of otherwise very busy schedules. I repeat myself, I know, but continue to recommend that, in the course of the day, we take a break to have a cup of tea (or coffee or chocolate) with the Lord, to take those few minutes, quietly on our own, to read a passage of Scripture, to say a prayer, to reflect on the day s prayer from our Advent booklets, and to utilize this time to grow in our relationship with Christ, who comes to save us. If you have children or grandchildren, be sure to spend time sharing stories of patient waiting for the coming of Christmas, for the ways you and your family have traditionally celebrated the birth of Jesus, the way you would go to Mass as a family (midnight?) or when you would open your gifts, or how you would bring the Christ-child to the manger. We all have many traditions for this season. Let us share these, and remember these, as signs of how much we are loved by God and how we share that love with others. Have a blessed week! Father Fred News of Comfort In a time of preparation, much of it having to do with material things, it is good to hear the words of Isaiah, Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God (Isaiah 40:1). In a time of such stress and rush, when our usual burdens are augmented by piles of Christmas preparations, we can choose to slow down, take some time to heal, and appreciate the enormous gift we are about to receive. Christ, the Son of God, has become one of us, and knows our human limitations. Yet God, even now, is freeing us from the burdens that our inattentiveness to our God and to our deepest inner longings have heaped upon us. The Lord comes, not as a king with mighty armies, but as a shepherd leading the flocks with care and tenderness. Isaiah prophesies good news: our oppression is over, our sins forgiven. Second Sunday of Advent Let us ask God to bless our family on this Second Sunday in Advent as we light another candle on our Advent Wreath: God of new messengers, this Sunday you tell us in your Gospel I am sending my messenger ahead of you. Help us to be your messengers of peace and reconciliation as we journey through this second week of Advent. When we light this second candle on our wreath, let us bring your light to our friends and neighbors this week. We ask this through Christ, who is the Light of the world. Amen.

It is a Christmas CD featuring Christmas songs sung by Lynn Guidi and Ray Perez, together with Ernie Mansfield, flute and saxophone; and Pawel Walerowski, cello. The recording also features special guest Mario Balestrieri, pianist. In addition, the CD features bonus tracks recorded previously with our former pianist, Andrea Morse. The CD is also available as a download card. Net profits from the sale will be donated to St. Mary Church. CDs will be available for purchase after Mass and in the parish office during office hours. This year, carols will begin half-an-hour later, at 10:30. Gifts to be collected via the Giving Tree this year will be sent to support the St Vincent DePaul conferences at St Peter Marty Parish in Pittsburg and St Paul Parish in San Pablo. If you would like to donate for a child, please take an ornament from the tree with the requested gift and leave the gift under the Giving Tree near the sanctuary. Pope John XXIII, October 12, 1961 Catequesis Que Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe! The fourth grade is preparing and waiting for the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We discussed the importance of Advent and what we can do to prepare for Christmas. The class created Advent wreaths using paper plates and tracing their hands, and made candles so that each Sunday they can light their candle with their families. The fourth grade is also trying to master multiplying bigger numbers together! They are able to go up in front of the class to explain and teach their strategies and steps to solve their problems.
