Parents are more than welcome to volunteer! For more information, contact Alex Erwine by , alexer- Answering the question, "To whom do we belong?" is a fundamentally spiritual statement about who and whose we are. Christians answer this question by placing themselves in relationship to God and Neighbor within the context of the Church (Body of Christ). At First United Methodist Church, we are open to all those who are nudged by God to belong to a community of faith so that we all can grow in our knowledge and love of God as well as our knowledge and love of each other. Theologically, church membership is not a conclusion or a destination - it is a conversation, a journey, and a covenant. We invite you to join us in conversation and come with us on the journey of faith by belonging to the First United Methodist Church family. If you are interested in belonging to FUMC, you are invited to join us for an informational luncheon in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, June 23rd following the 11am worship service. Our next New Member Sunday will be on June 30th for those who have attended one of these gatherings. Westview on the James is having an open house Sun., Apr 28, 12-4pm. They ll have lunch and some activities to try out. If you are interested in coming along, Alex! BLOOD DRIVE SET FOR SUNDAY, May 5, 9am-12:30pm in the church parking lot. Sign up at redcrossblood.org. 3 Join us for an overnight retreat for Young Adults and Families with young children. This retreat is open to any young adult over the age of 18 and to parents with elementary aged children. We re intentionally trying to cast a wide net to provide fellowship, worship, and ministry opportunities for congregants and members who have young children and/or are young adults. This overnight retreat will be at Camp Overlook (about 1 hour from Charlottesville) and run from around 4pm on Friday, May 10 through 2pm on Saturday, May 11. There are no anticipated costs for retreat participants and meals (dinner, breakfast, and lunch) will be provided. We are encouraging those with children to bring them! There are plenty of rooms available for families, lots of spaces for small kids to play (inside and out) - and Lara Upton, along with the Nurture Ministry Team, has already started to plan and discuss providing childcare assistance at camp! The goals of this retreat are to provide a time of fellowship, worship, and ministry engagement for Young Adults and Families with young children. If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Phil Woodson, philwoodson.fumc@gmail.com. Or, to sign up, go to cvillefirstumc.org/belong/retreat. Roof Repair Update The roof was installed in (33 years normal life is 20 to 25 years) It has been leaking the last year. Trustees approved a budget of $30, to replace the roof and the ductwork for the rooftop HVAC unit on the roof. The duct was leaking air from our sleepover guests standing/jumping on the duct and unit. Contracts have been approved for $28, to do both. The thin coat of concrete was saturated with water since the rubber roof had been leaking. It was decided to remove the layer of concrete (It would be impossible to dry the concrete in a reasonable amount of time) and glue the new insulation to the old roof. The new rubber was glued to the new insulation. That additional step will cost some extra time and cost to the original contract. We have taken core samples of the roof under the concrete pavers on the porch and found the same wet layer of concrete there. We are waiting on the proposal to replace those sections of roof and will need to get that done before we have leaks in those ceilings. The pictures show the concrete layer and the old tar roof.
