We struggle for position in the hierarchy of power: Who has power over whom? How do they wield it? What is the source of that power? What is the healthy response? In this Sunday s Gospel reading the Pharisees engage Jesus in a power struggle over whether Jews should show tribute to Caesar by paying taxes. Jesus response puts this and every struggle for power into perspective. We are called to offer our prayers and generous financial support, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, for the worldwide mission of Christ. We are asked to reach out to the peripheries, people in remote villages, towns, and cities by using the witness and work of missionaries and local priests. Please keep all missionaries in your daily prayers. Bread & Wine will be consecrated at Masses during the week of October in memory of Giuseppe & Stefana Farruggia. We will memorialize each plant for your loved ones by placing a fall leaf plaque in front of each plant. 5 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal As of October 10, 2017, 120 parish families have pledged $43,166.00, 77.84% of Pledge Goal, $40, received toward our parish goal of $55,455 for the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal to assist Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and our diocesan church to maintain its many services and ministries. We ask that every parish family consider making a pledge to this campaign, remembering that all monies received over goal will be returned to St. Joseph s. In case that we do not reach that goal, our parish will have to pay the balance to the Dioceses. *************************************************************** Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults If you are an adult who is not baptized and who is seeking information about the Catholic Church, you are invited to: "COME & SEE." This Mass must be arranged personally at the Parish Office on 43rd St. during the week (October 16 th to 20 th ). This will assist us in securing that your food donations go directly to the needy.
