2 P A G E 2 From the Pastor s Desk The Easter Season is here, the time we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To many it is the greatest event in the history of humankind in that it has brought hope to a fallen world and to man s eternal destiny. For the Christian there in no single event that has serves as the foundation of our faith and hope for all eternity than the resurrection of our Savior. It s relevance and importance to our faith and every day living is unparalleled by any other event in history. The fact of His resurrection means everything to the believer today. However, more than just celebrating and talking about the resurrection, I encourage all of us to desire to experience the power of the resurrection in our day and time for our life issues and situations. It is both good and necessary that we recognize and celebrate what Christ did for us when He rose up from the grave with all power in heaven and earth in His hand. We are admonished in scripture to remember His sacrifice and share the resurrection story as a part of our witness in proclaiming the gospel message. But beyond our commemoration of the fact of the resurrection is our Lord s desire for us experience the power of His resurrection and walk in it. His heart intent in raising His Son from the dead was to allow those who accept His Son by faith to be able to live in that same power that raised His Son. In Romans 8:11 the Apostle Paul declares, But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Christ from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you. It is the Spirit that quickens or makes alive. The Spirit inside of every believer is the same Spirit that brought forth the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are certain of the fact that resurrection power lies within us and is available to us to experience to the fullest in our daily walk and for every challenge we face in this life. It s one thing to know the resurrection story and celebrate the event as a part of our tradition on Easter Sunday morning, but it s another thing to desire to experience it and walk in it 365 days of the year. The Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:10 expresses his desire to walk and live in it when he declares, That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto Hi s death. Paul is not satisfied with mere knowledge of an historic event or even a worship experience that recounts and elevates its message one day out of a year for our information and inspiration. Paul wants to know Him and the power of His resurrection (in an experiential way) in order to fully attain the purpose for which Christ died. He died that we might become who He is, sons of God empowered to do God s will in the earth. Paul also realizes that in order to experience the power of the resurrection we must also identify with the fellowship of His sufferings. Which means that we must expect and accept the suffering that comes with our life experience as believers in order to grow and develop in Him and challenge us to overcome by the same Spirit that empowered Him to conquer sin, death, hell and the grave. As the songwriter asked, Must Jesus bear the cross alone, and all the world go free? No, there s a cross for everyone, and there s a cross for me. This Easter let s move beyond the celebration of the holiday and the event and let us desire to live in the fullness of the power that the resurrection story brings to each of our lives. Led and Empowered, by His Spirit, Compelled by His Love. CMC Candidates Forum On Monday, April 8 th, at 6:30 p.m., New Bethel will be hosting a candidates forum sponsored by the Community Mobilization Coalition, of which your pastor has served as chairman for the past 20 years. The CMC is a collaborative effort of African-American and Hispanic organizations under one umbrella, united for the expressed purpose of voter registration, voter education and voter mobilization so that we might impact our community through our collective and united voice and vote. In order for God s will to be done here on this earth and in our communities He must have instruments that He can use to be His voice to put leaders in place that He would want to serve His people. We encourage the entire membership to participate.
