2 P A G E 2 From the Pastor s Desk A Happy, Blessed and Prosperous New Year to the New Bethel Family! We thank God for bringing all of us through the year 2018, allowing us to see a brand new year, and for the opportunity to serve Him in a greater way in Two years ago, our theme was Connected and Committed to Kingdom Ministry with God, based on I Corinthians 3:9a, John 5:17 and John 6:38, with the focus on us being connected to God and what He is doing in the world around us, and committed to the kingdom work He has assigned for us to do. Our theme for last year was Transformed into His Image, As We Serve for His Glory. Scripture references included, II Corinthians 3:18 and I Peter 4:11 (NET). We wanted to focus our attention on God s work in us, as He transforms us into what He calls us to be, that we might accomplish what He calls us to do more effectively and for the right motive. This year our church theme builds upon our previous themes and takes us to the next level of ministry. The theme we have been led to present to the church for 2019 is Led By His Spirit, Compelled By His Love. Scripture references include: Romans 8:14 (NIV), For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God, and II Corinthians 5:14,15 (NIV), For Christ s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again The work of the church, the universal body of Christ, is a Spirit-led work. In the early church in the Book of Acts, the apostles were keenly aware of the Holy Spirit s headship over the church and His guiding presence in the church. Consequently, their ministry work and missionary exploits were directed and guided by the Holy Spirit, who also called them to the work God wanted them specifically to accomplish. In Acts chapter 13 it says that as the disciples fasted and prayed, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Paul for the work whereunto I have called them. If we as the body of Christ today are going to do the true work of the Church, then we too, must acknowledge the Holy Spirit s presence and headship in the church and follow His direction to complete the works of ministry God has assigned us to do. It is not for us to decide what we want to do for Him, but for us to commit ourselves to follow His directives to accomplish what He assigns us to do for His glory. This also applies to our personal walk and work for the Lord as individual members of His body. We must in all of our ways acknowledge Him, so that He might direct our path. Our 2019 theme also helps us to embrace the true motive for doing ministry in and through the church Love! Our love for God and our love for His people. It was God s love for us that compelled Him to send His only begotten into the world to die for our sins, and it was Jesus love for the people He encountered during His 33 ½ years of ministry, and for us too, that compelled Him to ultimately lay down His life for us all. As we begin the year 2019, we want to continue to allow God to transform us into the image of His Son, but acknowledge and follow the Head of the church, the Holy Spirit, as we continue to serve for His glory. Our task is still to discover what God is doing and then allow His Spirit to lead and direct us in how we are to join Him in His work. Leadership Training Our annual Leadership Training is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. for all General Officers, Deacons, Deaconess, Trustees, Ministry Heads, Associate Ministers, Administrative Staff and any other person who is in leadership or aspires to leadership. It is designed to update all leaders on new policies and procedures, communicate the vision as it relates to our goals and focus for ministry this year as well as establishing our leadership roles and responsibilities as they relate to the overall ministry of the church. See you there!
