Please advise the School if you do not approve of your child s photo being used. From the Principal s desk. Welcome to Week 7. The events over the weekend in Paris were truly horrifying and saddening. Australia has a deep connection with France, with so many of our finest buried in places such as Fromelles and Villers-Bretonneux. When these acts occur it highlights to me how each of us can counter this type of evil. We can love our families more, act kinder to friends and colleagues and do simple deeds of goodwill. We keep the people of France in our prayers, and all people who are so effected by conflict in our hearts. Gospel and Reflection: Mark 13: distress, the sun will be darkened, the moon will lose its brightness, the stars will come falling from heaven and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory; then too he will send the angels to gather his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the world to the ends of heaven. Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple Jesus said, In those days, after the time of and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that he is near, at the very gates. I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all these things will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son; no one but the Father. Reflection: Jesus description of those days disturbed people had no real way of explaining what was happening. With the scientific knowledge of the 21st century, we would Interpret the sun being darkened, the moon losing its brightness and the stars falling from heaven as eclipses of the sun or moon, and meteors falling perhaps in a shower. VISION STATEMENT St John s Primary School strives to foster a community of faith that is centred on the teachings of Christ, where love and concern develops the whole child, empowering each individual to realize his/her potential.

2 Knowledge makes these cosmic events fascinating to us rather than frightening. Jesus moved from talking about dramatic and frightening events to the more familiar description of the changes in a fig tree which indicate summer is close. Know that he is near, at the very gates is a vitally important statement for us as it would have been for his listeners. When everything appears to be turning to custard, when the order of our lives or our work place or our families or community is shaken or in chaos, hang on to the knowledge that God is near. In fact he may be in the chaos and shaking, as sometimes it is the only way in which real change can begin. In those disturbing moments consciously looking for signs of God s presence is an act of faith, even if we feel that we are very alone or that he has abandoned us to the turmoil. A simple prayer Lord I am looking for your presence, help me to see may lead us to see small signs shoots of Jesse which indicate that God is very much in the change which is taking place. (Bishops Council) This week sees our new Kinders for 2016 coming to school for the first of their Orientation days. This will be an exciting day for them as they begin their adventures in Big School. Also, this Wednesday our Year 6 students will be having their Year 7 Information evening at the College from 7pm. 3 COMBINED CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FEES & FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICE Welcome to Term 4 of the 2015 school year. The School Fees and Family Support Office relocated from St Johns College to St John s Primary yesterday. Apologies if you experience any difficulty when trying to ring or fax as arrangements are still in progress in this regard. It is anticipated that the original phone and fax numbers will remain as is. There are still a few glitches to work through. I will confirm this in the next newsletter. Please if you have any enquiries. The office is now in Demountable 15 behind the St John s Primary School Hall. There is a pathway which leads to the demountable as you come through the small metal gate. Hopefully there will be a signage in the near future to assist you if attending the office in person. If you do happen to get lost while trying to find us, just go to the St John s Primary main office and ask the office staff for directions. Regards Karen Meredith Manager k.meredith@bth.catholic.edu.au Bathurst Diocesan Summer Sports Trials 2015 for Last Tuesday the 10 th of November Summer Team Sports Selection Trials were conducted in Dubbo for students from all of the Bathurst Diocesan Schools to get into one of the Diocesan Summer Sports Teams that will compete at the Polding Sports Trials on February 5 th Students from St John s Primary went along and participated in Girls and Boys teams for Touch Football, Basketball, Softball, Tennis and Cricket. Congratulations to the following students that were successful in gaining selection in Bathurst Diocesan Teams that will compete in Lismore at the Polding Selection Trials in February Nik Seaton Bathurst Diocesan Touch Football Broden Konz Bathurst Diocesan Touch Football Douglas Foley Bathurst Diocesan Softball. 4 Religious Education News Term 4 Week Six 2015 Sacrament of Penance Last Wednesday, many of our Year 2 students made their First Reconciliation. We congratulate the children on the continued growth of their Catholic faith, and we thank the parents for their guidance and encouragement. Kindergarten Liturgy Photos: Looking after God s Creation Remembrance Day Liturgy Photos: One of our talented parents, Mr Wayne Cole helped make our liturgy a memorable occasion. Michael Mangan Concerts I am pleased to announce that next year, 24th May, we will be hosting 2 concerts for the children by the popular musician and liturgist, Michael Mangan. We use many of Michael s hymns in our liturgies throughout the year, so it will be a very enjoyable concert for our students. Wishing you all a good week, David Schwager (REC)
