Please advise the School if you do not approve of your child s photo being used. From the Principal s desk. Welcome to Week 5 and the beginning of November that is very hard to believe. We are entering the final part of the year where end of year assessments, report writing and finalizing plans for 2016 become the major focus. I am sure you will join me with a sense of enthusiasm as we prepare for this exciting time. Our students have much to look forward to with swimming schools, graduations, 2016 Leader preparation amongst many highlights. Last Friday I was very privileged to represent our school at the funeral of Terry McGoldrick. The impact Terry made on the community of Coonabarabran was obvious, with the people attending the funeral spilling into the street. It was a very fitting farewell and celebration of a life that made such a positive and sincere impact on all who he met. We continue to pray for Terry and his family, and like Terry would want, we also pray for all people who are grieving loved ones or nursing the sick. Tomorrow evening we will be welcoming our new Kindergarten 2016 Parents to the hall for the Parent Information Night commencing at 6:30. This will be an opportunity to hear some of the plans from the Kinder staff, the P&F and myself in regards to fees arrangements and whole school organisation. I am sure you will join me in welcoming all new parents to our St Johns community. Uniform Reminders. Please ensure your child/children are adhering to our uniform rules. VISION STATEMENT St John s Primary School strives to foster a community of faith that is centred on the teachings of Christ, where love and concern develops the whole child, empowering each individual to realize his/her potential.

2 Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied. Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Reflection All the saints can be found within the Sermon on the Mount the persecuted and martyred, the holy, the mystics, those who dedicated their life to the poor. There is a saint for every occasion and every activity. These are our spiritual forebears, the ones who have travelled the road ahead of us. They are our older brothers and sisters in the Church, watching over us as we

follow in their footsteps. They found the way. They understood the Sermon on the Mount, and the emphasis Jesus placed on humility, compassion, mercy and love as the characteristics of his followers.

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus provides a spiritual framework which takes us further, outlining the virtues he wishes to see in his followers. At the heart of the beatitudes is empathy.

The Ten Commandments provide us with a moral framework, helping us to distinguish between right and wrong and to move away from sin. The meek are not obsessed with position or status and are available to listen to others. Those who are truly sensitive to the grief of others are good comforters. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness take up the cause of the disadvantaged. The merciful understand the need each of us has to be forgiven. The peacemakers are sensitive to the stress and damage disunity or conflict can inflict on people. A serious concentration on the Sermon on the Mount is an exercise in dealing with ego. The bigger the ego, the less room there is for empathy with others. We have several children at our school who have LIFE THREATENING allergies to peanuts and tree-nuts. It is important for the safety of these children that you DO NOT send any nuts or nut products to school. This includes foods such as peanut butter, Nutella, hazelnut spreads, trail mix or muesli bars/biscuits that contain nuts. Please help us maintain the health and well being of all our students by considering this information when packing lunches for your child.

The office is now in Demountable 15 behind the St John s Primary School Hall. There is a pathway which leads to the demountable as you come through the small metal gate.

4 COMBINED CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FEES & FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICE Welcome to Term 4 of the 2015 school year. The School Fees and Family Support Office relocated from St Johns College to St John s Primary yesterday. Apologies if you experience any difficulty when trying to ring or fax as arrangements are still in progress in this regard. It is anticipated that the original phone and fax numbers will remain as is. There are still a few glitches to work through. I will confirm this in the next newsletter. Please if you have any enquiries. The office is now in Demountable 15 behind the St John s Primary School Hall. There is a pathway which leads to the demountable as you come through the small metal gate. Hopefully there will be a signage in the near future to assist you if attending the office in person. If you do happen to get lost while trying to find us, just go to the St John s Primary main office and ask the office staff for directions. Regards Cathy ATTENTION PARENTS If you are intending to travel overseas with your children during school time, it is a Federal Government requirement that you complete an Application for Exemption from Attendance at School. These forms are available from the school office. Once received, you will be issued with a Certificate of Exemption which you may be required to produce when going through Customs. This is also a requirement if you are travelling within Australia and your children will be absent from school for more than 5 working days.

A portion of proceeds will go back to Cancer Council. Please come down between 2pm and 8pm, Saturday 7 th November.
