Pope Francis declared the Shrine to be a pilgrimage site with plenary indulgences attached under all usual plenary conditions. If you would like to ride to the Shrine, please contact either Jacqui Haffner ( ) or Betty Newman ( ). SPECIAL COLLECTION JULY A special collection for the 2017 Mission Appeal will be taken next weekend, July Blue envelopes are in the pews today so that you may take them with you and bring back next week. 3 2017 Mission Appeal As part of our commitment to global missionary work, our parish community will welcome Sister Mary Kay Homan, OP, an Adrian Dominican Sister, to be with us at our Masses next weekend July She will share the story of her Congregation s missionary work and invite you to partner with the Sisters through your prayer and financial support. The Adrian Dominican Sisters are an international Congregation of vowed religious women whose roots go back to St. Dominic in the 13 th Century. They are committed to their Vision that calls them to seek truth, make peace and reverence of life. The Sisters minister in a variety of professions that flow from the traditional works of education, health care and social work. Today, they are also involved in community organizing and other works of justice and peace, as well as ministries in law, the arts, science, business, pastoral care and administration. They strive to address the crucial needs of society and serve wherever they are called. Remodel Update On July 6, 2017, the Hoxie group of Doug Campbell, Kelly Meyer, and myself, along with Donnie Marrs and Justin May from DMA Architects, Salina, KS, met with the Art and Architecture Committee at the Chancery in Salina, KS. This was my third meeting with the committee in the past three and half years and should be the final one. The committee consists of Bishop Wiesenburger and seven priests with Fr. Keith Weber serving as chairman. Donnie Marrs presented slides of the plans for our church as well as the projected costs. The Hoxie group fielded questions regarding the drawings and associated costs for roughly an hour. Doug Campbell presented his estimated cost which came in much lower than what DMA Architects had projected. The committee had several good comments and suggestions. They questioned several items in detail but in the end seemed satisfied with what we presented. The Bishop wanted a certain type of flooring and pews that we are still working through. Other than that, we agreed on everything else. As the plans are now, the total cost of the project is $530,000. We have pledges of $433,800. The committee felt like this was adequate funding to proceed with the project. In their experience, most parishes come up with more money after the project is actually started instead of just being talked about, so at this time we are proceeding with the plans. After talking with Doug, there may be some other cost savings along the way. We are also looking over the plans to determine necessities versus things that would be nice to have. Please look over the attached information and let either myself or Charlene Meier in the parish office know if you would like to have a meeting like we had in the past to ask questions. My cell number is , and Charlene is in the parish office at on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. I would be more than happy to have a meeting any time after Mass. To date we have collected $143,000 of the $433,800. Please give myself or Charlene a call if you need a reminder of what your pledge was. As we proceed we will be contacting you as to when your scheduled pledge is due. If you have not made a pledge yet and would like to, please feel free to contact myself or Don Mense. Don s numbers are cell or home Campbell Contracting s schedule is to begin next spring.
