Worship Schedule Sundays 9:30 a.m. Weekly Christian Education classes for all ages. There will be NO classes on Sunday, December 25, so that families may spend Christmas morning at home. Regular worship time will be observed, so please join us at 10:40 a.m. 10:40 a.m. Weekly Worship Service, with Holy Communion celebrated the first Sunday of each month Christmas at the Zoo Saturday, December 10 Our 3rd annual Christmas at the Zoo outing will take place on December 10th this year. For a group of 25 the price of admission will be $6.50 for adults, and $5 for children 2-12 years old. We'll meet at the church at 4:15 pm and carpool as much as possible. The zoo is open from 5-9 pm For the past two years this has been a well attended and much enjoyed event. Don't miss out! See Serena for ticket information. Christmas Choir Come join the Youth and Children s Christmas Choir and bring a friend! Everyone is welcome! We will practice every Sunday morning in December from 10:00 to 10:30 in the Sunday school room. This choir will be singing at the Christmas Eve service! Christmas caroling to our homebound members will be Sunday, December 18 from 2:00-4:00. We need enough volunteers to form three groups who will carol at four or five homes each. The experience is truly a blessing to the folks we have missed at church and always a blessing to the folks who do the singing. Everyone knows and loves to sing Christmas carols. And if you don t know all the songs and verses, we provide song books. We welcome and encourage all, children included, because the people we sing to love the kids. This invitation is not just for choir members, but for everyone, yes, even YOU! Come share the joy of the season! We will present a plate of cookies to each person we carol to. Your donation of cookies should be left at the church by Friday, December 16. Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning Worship Saturday, December 24, we will have one candlelight worship service, beginning at 7:40 p.m. Worship on Christmas morning will be at our usual 10:40. There will be no Sunday School classes that morning.

2 From the Cluttered Desk December Issue No. 12 Page 2 Merry Christmas! How I dislike the trend of saying Happy Holidays. Several merchants this year, including a major corporation with always low prices, are doing away with advertising for Christmas. However, I expect they will be only too happy to take money from us who use the forsaken term. Maybe Christians should stop celebrating the season from a merchants standpoint, and only deal with the God aspect. I wonder how long it would take for stores to miss the money and realize Christmas is Christmas for a reason. The reason for Christmas is the God of all creation came to His creation and took on our form. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NIV. That is far greater than any jewel under the tree. Truly the gift of all gifts. So if it's cold outside, wear warm clothes to church! Thank you for your understanding. Underneath It All, We re All the Same Children s Bureau Family Support Center For the past several years, we have collected items for the Underneath It All, We re All the Same campaign. Once again this year, the United Methodist Women are sponsoring this drive to collect underclothing, socks, and toiletries for the Children s Bureau Family Support Center. It has been called the invisible sign of poverty - having no or inadequate undergarments to wear. This is the situation for many, including children and youth, whose financially struggling parents decide to cut out the purchase of underwear from their budget. Invisible, that is, until enrolled in gym class or sports. Obviously, lack of these items is more than just a problem of hygiene. What is needed: New undergarments - either packaged or tagged - including bras, T-shirts, panties, thermal or long underwear, and socks. Remember that many wear larger sizes, including XXL. Please help! Collection box will be set up in the north entrance hallway from December 1 through December 30. For more information, call Shirley Lewis at Missions Moment Indiana United Methodist Children s Home Christmas is the season to share Christ s love with your family. But then, what if you don t have a family to celebrate with? Happily, there are special people and organizations that fill this void every day. Through God s love, the Indiana Children s Home provides loving support for more than 165 boys and girls from across Indiana. The home provides on-site education, group homes and counseling. An activities program is provided which encourages the development of a sense of selfworth and relationship skills. Please remember the home in your prayers and with your financial support. There will be a special offering for the Home at the Christmas Eve service. - The Missions Outreach Team

In Sunday school this month we'll be investigating and proving why Christmas is real. We are also planning an ice skating outing to King's Island as they have a Winter Wonderland event this month. Thanks to Bruce Stickle for the free tickets to King's Island. There will be no youth activities over the Christmas break (except maybe the King's Island trip) as we have so many of our kids who will be traveling and spending time with extended family. 5 Announcements Ruth Circle Women s Bible study and fellowship on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. The group meets at the home of Peggy Leveque, 6144 North Dearborn. Grace The Grace group will meet on Thursday, December 1 at the home of Janet Rodeheffer, 5246 N. New Jersey Street, at 10:00 a.m. for their Christmas gathering. The group has finished the Phillip Yancey study and will start a new study after the first of the year. XYZ Club The XYZ Club will meet Wednesday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Riviera Club for cards and fellowship. Their salad bar will be available at noon. Proud parents are Aaron and Kristi (Lewis) Gresch. Grandparents are Ned and Shirley Lewis. Congratulations to Andy and Karen (King) Tucker on the birth of Lillian Grace Tucker on Tuesday, November 15. Grandmother Bunni King can be found here in the nursery most Sundays. Our last information is that all are doing well. And if you ask, any of these grandparents might show you pictures. Welcome, New Members New members were received on two Sundays in November. The Ladies Prayer Chain is being up-dated. Every woman in the congregation is invited to participate. If you would like to receive a phone call or telling you of a prayer request and perhaps pass it on to someone else, please notify Shirley Lewis, or lewisna@iquest.net. This is a meaningful way to help someone when you don t know what else you can do. It is a commitment to be taken seriously. Pass the request on promptly and pray daily. You will be truly blessed. Safe Sanctuaries: Reducing the Risk of Child Abuse in the Church The General Conference of the United Methodist Church adopted a resolution and has recommended that every United Methodist Church have a plan to prevent child abuse and protect adult staff and volunteers who work with children in the church. Our church is a community of faith and a safe sanctuary where children and youth can learn and develop the spiritual resources they need to face suffering and evil. Without a comprehensive strategy against abuse, we are taking a needless risk that harm may be done to our children or our workers with children. Laura Eller and Shirley Lewis, as members of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, have researched and are recommending a plan for Broad Ripple United Methodist Church. As much as possible there will be the two-adult rule, the open door policy and screening of new staff and volunteers who work with children and youth. It is our intent that this plan will be implemented by year s end.

Thank you Notes From the Loft The holiday season means hustle and bustle for sure...the same is true for the music department. The Bells of will be "ringing" a few times for the "pre"-yuletide Celebration this season downtown at the Hilbert Circle Theater. This will be a first for our group and hopefully the start of more things to come. If you attend the Yuletide Celebration this year...pay attention to the background music from the bells...you might be hearing us that day!! In addition to our "everyday" Sunday services, make your plans now to attend our Christmas Eve 7:40pm. Join us in worshiping and celebrating the gift given so long ago.
