You can drop it off at our Connection Center in the lobby or drop in the offering plate as it is passed. We are glad you are here! VBS WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! With our 125 volunteers, 175 kids at peak, FCC could have not made this a successful week without of your hard work, time and talents. The kids all had a blast and that is what is most important: Showing by example how awesome Jesus is and how loved His children are through all of you. SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 Join us for FUN, FOOD, and FELLOWSHIP for EVERYONE at the All Church Picnic. Everyone is welcome! There is no cost. Also Family Dedication for those who would like to dedicate a child or children will be that day as well. This will be available at both services. Mark your calendars and look for more details to come! A SHED IS BUILT Kit Gentis of IDES was here this past week. Kit, Nick, the IDES summer intern, and several FCC workers unloaded supplies for 10 sheds. An example shed was built. Take a look. Climb in! Thank you to all the workers and the IDES team host. 2 Galatians: A Different Gospel Sundays we are exploring Paul s aggressive letter to Christians who were in danger of being led away from the Gospel. Challenge yourself to grow during the week by choosing one or more of these learning opportunities. 3 On Sundays in churches across the US there are 3 women for every 2 men. Before shaming men, google Why Men Hate Church. Church systems are designed perfectly to get the results they are getting. Church is usually designed for women. I m not okay with that because all people need Jesus, including men. To reach all people, we must intentionally engage men. The church needs men too. The bigger the man shortage of a local church, the more likely the church is in decline. The presence of enthusiastic men is one of the surest predictors of church health. It is statistically linked to congregational growth, health, unity, increased generosity, and retention of young men and women. According to a Hartford Seminary study gender-balanced churches are three times as likely to be growing as female-dominated churches. Families need church-men. A Swiss study, published in 2000 showed that it is the religious practice of the father of the family that, above all, determines the future church attendance of the children. Check out these amazing statistics: Mother and Father attend church regularly: 33% of their children will end up attending church regularly. 25% of their children will end up not attending at all Mother attends church regularly. Father does not attend church at all: 2% of their children will end up attending church regularly 60% of their children will end up not attending at all Father attends church regularly. Mother does not attend church at all: 44% of their children will end up attending church regularly 34% of their children will end up not attending at all A survey released by the Baptist Press confirms the importance of men. If a child is the first to become a Christian, there is a 3.5% probability that everyone in the home will follow. If the mother is the first to become a Christian, there is a 17% probability that everyone in the home will follow. If the father is the first to become a Christian in a household, there is a 93% probability that everyone in the home will follow. (Maybe we should have a VBS for Men!) These studies show the value men have in transmitting their faith to their families; yet most churches are missing the boat on this one. When a church connects with men; they unleash the spiritual power latent in the male population. When churches and pastors tap into the spiritual potential in men, Jesus Church is the irresistible force that Jesus said it would be. Onward and Upward, When Men Matter To Church If the father is the first to become a Christian in a household, there is a 93% probability that everyone in the home will follow. 4 Deaf Missions Deaf Missions has a 15-passenger van that is 21 years old and has over 180,000 miles on it. We are now looking to purchase a used mini-van with low miles and warranty. There is a local dealer here in Council Bluffs, Iowa, who will work with us and sell one to us at a fair and reasonable price - within the ballpark of $20,000 (plus a little more to cover title and tax). We will not purchase a mini-van until we have enough funding to do so as we prayerfully depend on God to provide through supporters like you. This mini -van will be used for a variety of ministry purposes - for hauling video production equipment to film the American Sign Language Version (ASLV) of the Bible at various locations, traveling to various churches and ministries, taking students in our training programs on trips, bringing mission teams to the airport for international trips, picking up and dropping people off at the airport and bus station and transporting them to and during our annual Bible camp, among other opportunities.
