1 THE CONNECTING PEOPLE TO JESUS CHRIST AND TO ONE ANOTHER. We re All In For 2013, several stores have already announced that they will open their doors on Thanksgiving Day, some as early as 8:00am. So far, the list includes newcomers Macys, Kohls and J.C. Penney s; 3 giants who tried to remain traditional in previous years by not opening until Black Friday. Obviously, we were one of the last to open last year, Tony Bartlett, J.C. Penney s Vice President of stores, said. This year, he continued, we re all in. Well, there goes Thanksgiving. Just another day to join a mob of shoppers. But does the retail world really control Thanksgiving? Does a J.C. Penney s executive saying we re all in, steal Thanksgiving? Perhaps not, if Thanksgiving is just a once a year holiday event when we eat too much, hang out with family and friends, watch football, and when prompted, say thank you. Adding a trip to the mall will probably not ruin how most of us do Thanksgiving. Don t get me wrong, I love an old fashioned kind of Thanksgiving Day. A day that is low-key, reflective, familyoriented and less commercial. A day where we slow down, measure our blessings, pray our gratitude and worship the giver of all good gifts. But I am not greatly upset that Thanksgiving Day, a national holiday, is shaped by our culture. That s the world we live in. A much bigger concern is when Christ-followers forget that Biblical thanksgiving is a lifestyle everyday all in for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:1-5 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,.. 3 Good Game Thanks to the Ahh-mazing generosity of the life groups and individuals who contributed to the 10 th Annual Fall Family Fest. Gateway Church was able to connect with about 900 people at the event! Many of those in attendance were fresh faces and that s a Good Game! THANK YOU for stepping up to the plate Gateway! Because of YOU, families in our community experienced the love of Christ this past Saturday at our Fall Family Fest! **SAVE THE DATE Next Year s Fall Family Fest will be on Saturday, November 1 st from 11am-3pm. Our theme will be Royal Family. Our family had a great time! Best one to date! Best Fall Fest ever! We had a blast! What a wonderful time everyone was having! Mission to Haiti Gateway recently sent a team of 11 (Dave Clinger, Curt Cramer, Andy Glenn, Darren Morrison, Cathy Petersen, Dan Seitz, Abe Sparling, Jim Spears, Nathaniel Spears, Jenn Spears and

The team built 66 new desks and repaired approximately 50 existing desks for one of the Mission Possible schools in Haiti.

The team members experienced some Haitian culture (including a church service) and observed some of the work that God is doing through Mission Possible in Haiti.

4 Mission to Haiti Gateway recently sent a team of 11 (Dave Clinger, Curt Cramer, Andy Glenn, Darren Morrison, Cathy Petersen, Dan Seitz, Abe Sparling, Jim Spears, Nathaniel Spears, Jenn Spears and Tisha Viera) to Haiti with Mission Possible. The trip was a great success! The team worked very hard and very well together. The team built 66 new desks and repaired approximately 50 existing desks for one of the Mission Possible schools in Haiti. The team also installed 8 cabinets in classrooms at 3 different schools for the Haitian teachers to use. The team members experienced some Haitian culture (including a church service) and observed some of the work that God is doing through Mission Possible in Haiti. Making room for others On Sunday, October 20 th, Pastor Ben shared with the congregation very good news on our Building Campaign. With almost $2,000,000 in the building fund, ready-to-go plans and positive feedback from banks, we are able to project a March 2014 ground breaking. That date, of course, is subject to unforeseeables, most of which we cannot control. One thing though, that we do control (with God s help) is money in the bank. We need to keep a strong flow of resources toward the project. So please continue your faithful giving, keeping up with your pledges and, if you can, additional gifts. Plus, if you have not made a pledge or a gift, this would be a great time to help us make room for others. Please keep praying that our timing, our vision, our hearts, our everything would align with God s plan for Gateway. At the end of the day, God will not be impressed with a new building but He will be, we pray, pleased with our faithfulness. Our future is all to His Glory! Page 4

Steiner s Snapshot The Steiners are missionaries supported by Gateway serving in Taiwan. The summer term always has the most students, volunteer teachers and highest energy levels.

She is the third sister in her family to accept Christ and she is definitely grow- ing in the Lord. She will graduate from her university this year and hopes to attend WOLBI in the future.

She hopes that she can join a mission team in the future. Two young men accepted Christ this summer.

5 Steiner s Snapshot The Steiners are missionaries supported by Gateway serving in Taiwan. The summer term always has the most students, volunteer teachers and highest energy levels. This summer we had 34 students and 9 teachers. The very first week I found out that one of our returning students, Debbie, had accepted Christ shortly after leaving SYME last summer. She is the third sister in her family to accept Christ and she is definitely grow- ing in the Lord. She will graduate from her university this year and hopes to attend WOLBI in the future. You may remember reading about her older sister, Betsy. Betsy just finished her 2nd year at Word of Life Bible Institute and will continue to study ESL and Counseling. She hopes that she can join a mission team in the future. Two young men accepted Christ this summer. This was Ryan s 2nd term with us and after carefully thinking about what he wants for his future, he decided he wants Christ to be in his future. Ryan will continue studying at SYME this fall. Ryan is Nikki s brother. Nikki, who was saved at SYME three years ago, just finished her 2nd year at WOLBI. She ll continue her studies at Moody this fall. The other young man who accepted Christ this summer is David. David just graduated from high school and two weeks after starting SYME decided to become a Christian. His parents are not Christians, but his mother has been quite impressed, if not shocked at all the changes in his life after just one month at SYME. She told me, I only paid that much money and in such a short time my son changed so much. It is the best money I ever spent. David is very excited about the possibility of going to WOLBI in the future. 30% of the summer students were unsaved, but they learned a lot about God, Christ, Salvation, and Christian community. Pray that God will finish His work in their lives this year like He did with Debbie last year! We had just 5 days between the summer and fall term to get ready for a new group of teachers and students. The fall term students are earnest and the teachers are just right for the students we have. This fall our family is returning to the States for 3 months. We are leaving two weeks after the fall term starts. The first part of our return will focus on person- al renewal and the rest will focus on connecting with churches and supporters that we have not had a chance to visit with personally in the last 5 7 years.
