By, Daniella Mason I am sitting in my den wondering what musing I would share with all of you this month. When I heard the lyrics mentioned above on Air1 radio station. They struck me good and hard! What a beautiful image! I can imagine watching the power of the Spirit tearing down walls of adversity, beating down the doors of hate, crashing through the windows of all of our hearts and bringing the peace, hope, and love of Jesus Christ to this third rock from the Sun we call home. Can you just imagine? With Spring here and this part of the world starting to stir awake from its long slumber, with trees warming and their roots beginning to take in the nourishment they so desperately need after being squeezed from the frozen ground and allowing more water and minerals to seep into their unique vascular system, watching new mother does with their babies frolicking in the meadows, to a blade of grass breaking through the icy snow, the Spirit is moving across this new season. Could it also be that there is a new season in our lives in which the Spirit is getting us ready for? Should our eyes and hearts be open to how and what the Spirit is doing in our church family? Can we feel the Spirit move throughout our days and into the night? Blessings, Pastor Elizabeth 1

2 Spirit divine, attend our prayers, and make this house your home; descend with all your gracious powers; oh come, great Spirit, come. I am sharing a picture taken by Steve Kennison during Sunday Service on March 10 th. Helen Tracy was our guest speaker, she asked for Young at Heart Christians to come forward; here they are: Easter Flowers: If anyone would like memorial flowers for Easter: Please contact Helen Gydesen. Deacon s Ministry: Minutes from March 3, Deacons will hold a Chinese Auction and Candy/Bake Sale on Saturday, April 20th from 9 a.m. - Noon. If you are interested in donating any baked items, please see one of the Deacons. Deacons continue to send cards to those in need, those celebrating a birthday, etc. An Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Easter Sunday following worship, those Deacons know all the perfect hiding spots around the sanctuary so the children should brush up on their hunting skills! The next meeting of the Deacons will be April 7, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. As always, if you know of someone in need, please contact a Deacon or Office Manager Kathy Huzzy who will be able to connect you with a Deacon. Youth Group - We and a wonderful group of children on March 24th for Sunday School. We read the parable of the fig tree and talked about many different qualities God wants us to strive for, such as love, joy, peace, goodness, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. The children put together a wonderful tree which is on display in the basement, stop in and take a look! In April, Sunday School is scheduled for April 7th only. There is no Sunday School on April 21st due to Easter Sunday, however there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for all the children after worship. If any children are interested in participating in the "Community Day of Caring" on May 4th, please see Teresa Warcup. She plans on attending and would be available to supervise any children who wish to volunteer. The children will once again be building a float and walking in the Lyons Falls Festival Parade scheduled for July 6th. Please see Teresa Warcup if you are interested in being on the float committee. 2

3 Confirmation Class - A Confirmation Class will be held in the Fall. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please contact Pastor Elizabeth, Kathy Huzzy or Teresa Warcup Laurie Rutan will be our guest speaker on Palm Sunday April 14th, The Adirondack Community Chorus will practice here at Forest Presbyterian on April 7,14, 22 nd and 25 th for their concert How Can I Keep From Singing on April 28 th. We look forward to another one their fantastic performances. The ACC concert, "How Can I Keep From Singing", will be 4/28/19 at 4 pm at Forest Presbyterian Church. The Forest Friends Blanket the World with Love project for the Church World Service was another huge success. We collected $155.00, which topped last years donations of $ Forest Friends will be adding another $ to the collection. We will be providing 36 blankets that will be used in the United States and the World for those in need during weather catastrophes, the homeless, and any other need the Church World Services sees a need. Thank you for giving warmth and care to others. The Lyons Falls Farmers Market is happy to announce that there will be 2 new comanagers this year, Beverly Swiernik and Amanda Jones. Justine Bauer will be in charge of Special Events. They are already hard at work getting ready for this years market and look forward to another successful year. Young Presbyterian Scholars Program: Westminster College Offers $76,000 Young Presbyterian Scholarships. In 2002 Westminster College celebrated its 150th Anniversary by recognizing its historical ties to the Presbyterian Church with the establishment of the Young Presbyterian Scholarship. The decision was made to invite all PC(USA) churches to nominate qualified high school seniors interested in admission to Westminster College for this award. The scholarship enables the local church and Westminster College to partner together to provide students with opportunities to continue to grow in their faith while attending one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the country. The Young Presbyterian Scholarship is worth $19,000 annually for Academic Year and renewable every year for four years, for a total up to $76,000. Each PC(USA) congregation can nominate at least two qualifying graduating seniors for the scholarships each academic year. Deadline for nomination is February 1st. For more information go to 3

4 Forest Finds: We are doing very well, our total deposits for the Month of February were $2, We are still looking for volunteers to sit at the desk during store hours, we are in dire need of help on Thursday nights. 5 Palm Sunday Breakfast: On Palm Sunday April 14th. The Deacons are going to prepare breakfast in our church kitchen. The breakfast is free for our church family, Serving will start 9:15 a.m. The full menu will be provided as time gets closer. There will be a good will offering for the church roof fund. The Stone Storytellers with Master Storytellers Dennis Dewey and Tim Coombs Present: A Performance of the story of Joseph & His Bothers. Sunday, April 14, :30pm. At the Stone Presbyterian Church 8 South Park Row, Clinton, NY. Taking care of our own: is a local nonprofit organization. All people who benefit from this organization must be current residents of Lewis County and must have proof of economic hardship due to major illness or disaster. Money will be distributed to approved applicants in the form of gas cards, gift cards or direct payments of medical facilities. The donated crayons will be collected, sent to California, then melted down and remanufactured, reducing waste. The recycled crayons are distributed to art programs at children s hospitals across the United States, brightening the lives of young patients during their stay. We have a basket in the hall by the kitchen for you to put used crayons. We will then mail them to California. To check out the program go to: HELP US TO MAKE HAPPIER KIDS AND A CLEANER EARTH! Ways you can help us and others: Please save Box Tops for Education. Clip the box top coupons from participating products. Each coupon is worth 10 cents. Our schools receive a check twice a year for submissions we send. Clip and save Campbell s Labels. As of August 2006, Campbell s will NOT accept the front soup label. Please clip and save the UPC s along with the Campbell s Logo. We need the whole UPC label and the bar code as shown here. We also collect other things: used cell phones, aluminum pop tops, used eye glasses, and toiletries. There is a basket across from our upstairs kitchen to put these items. The toiletries, box tops, and soup labels you provide help to support the following organizations: The women s shelter in Lowville, Veterans, Office for the Aging, NCRIL, South Lewis Schools, the homeless, and the Christmas Give Away.
