1 >> connections Living our Mission of Transformation The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The mission of the church comes down to us as individuals living into the way of Christ. Receiving holy nourishment, we see its fruits spread out all around us... God s work in our world through us. This fall at FFUMC, we intentionally move toward the way of Christ NOW in nurture, outreach, and worship. We seek to nurture the Spirit in us as we grow together through small group interactions. Many have joined Table Groups and studies, opening numerous new opportunities alongside our existing strong groups. We see how our light shines into our world through outreach ministries challenging us to look for fresh expressions of love in our FOR Fayetteville movement. And we move toward the way of Christ in our worship as we come to God with gratitude and gladness. As we become true followers of Jesus and are transformed, we spontaneously reach out and share this love that cannot be contained or limited. Our transformed lives show up everywhere: in stewardship of our finances and time, in how we treat others and in the renewal of our minds... all leading to the transformation of the world one person and one moment at a time. 3 CARE MINISTRIES AT Fayetteville first October 3:30 PM I Rev. Allyson Lawrence Ever wonder what is being done to reach out and stay connected with people who can t be here anymore? The answer to that last question is A LOT! We have a visiting flower-delivery ministry, a shawl ministry, and an encouraging card-sending ministry that is reaching out weekly to love on the homebound, the sick, the lonely, and, well, sometimes just because! Not only that, when someone in our church passes away, we have teams of people who prepare meals for the family on the day of the funeral. These various ministries all fall under what we call our Care Ministries. These are wonderful ministries of visitation and encouragement. Marilyn Harris prepares for flower ministry deliveries. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. What if we could provide transportation assistance, cooking and meal sharing, light cleaning, yard care, and errand, outings and shopping assistance for folks who need a little extra of something. If you are interested in knowing more about how you can join the ongoing efforts of caring for others in our congregation, join Allyson on October 21 at 3:30 p.m. in Room A-40. I so appreciate the kindness and love that went into making my lovely prayer shawl. I feel your loving arms and prayers surround me as I wear it during chemo treatments. Thank you all so much for the gift and loving support. David Grainger, son of Orrie and Margaret Grainger By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another John 13:35 Blood Drive October 7 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Select time at ffumc.blooddriveteam@gmail.com or sign up in courtyard on Sundays Stewardship Commitment Sunday October 14

4 THE FOUNDRY WORSHIP Youth Ministry I Kena Newkirk Pumpkin spice and autumn breezes are in the air, and the FFUMC Youth Leadership Team held its first meeting and began planning winter and spring events. This team is composed of our most dedicated students and is open to all ages who apply and agree to meet monthly. These students advise and assist the adult leaders, participate in group studies, and lead devotions during youth worship. This fall, they will study Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis. Last month in Foundry worship, we focused on No Other Name, a study on the names of Jesus, and students learned how to express their own faith story. As United Methodists, one way we uphold the church is through our witness, and throughout September our students became experts in their own stories of salvation. This October, Foundry worship is launching a new series focusing on the Holy Spirit entitled The Source. We will be exploring the mysterious and sometimes confusing ways in which the third member of the Godhead directs and empowers the church and our individual lives. The theme verse will be Acts 1:8: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses. This study goes hand-in-hand with our previous study on testimony, allowing our students to become empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the name of Jesus. UPCOMING VBS REMIX Wednesday, October 3 6 PM CORN MAZE October 14, 12 PM Cost: $15 + lunch Register online BRIDGE MISSION DUE October 17 Applications due for Spring 2019 mission trip to El Salvador Acolyte Information and Training Sessions October 4:30 PM and October 3 PM, Sanctuary Calling all fourth graders through seniors in high school --- interested in being a part of leading the congregation through worship on Sunday mornings? 5 FALL FESTIVAL EXPANDS TO SQUARE October 27 Children and Family Ministry I Rev. Carson Thaxton & Allie Hansen Our Fall Festival moves to the courthouse side of the church this year as we partner with Main Street Fayetteville on Saturday, October 27. Main Street will present the Main Street Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the square with vendors, hayrides and more. Within that timeframe from 2 to 4 p.m., FFUMC will present The Great Pumpkin Festival dedicated to kid-friendly fun with inflatables, activities, and DJ Willy WOW. In addition to treat offerings from vendors, FFUMC will host Trick-or-Treat Village, expanding the trunk-or-treat concept except with no vehicles. Imagine a walk-through experience for kids and families right next to our church with decorated playhouses and stations to give away lots of candy. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Think EasterPalooza in the fall. We will put up fencing and utilize the church and courthouse lawn grounds. What an incredible ministry opportunity for our church to get out, wear our event shirts, and share the love of Christ FOR our neighbors and also invite people to connect with the church. We can creatively reach out to meet new people and share the good news of Jesus. Check out volunteer roles in the Welcome Center or signup at fayettevillefirst.com. WEDNESDAY NIGHT L.i.F.E. 6 Adults In Action Serving Adults with Special Needs Discovering God-given uniqueness is the focus of Adults in Action, a ministry started just last year and now making its home at FFUMC. This ministry recognizes the contributions adults with special needs make in our community while addressing their need for social outlets, structure and meaningful activities. Director Rene Chesnut says, This is a Christ-centered program providing a place where adults can find friendship and serve others while learning about the wonders of our world. Adults in Action is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. three days each week. Participants can come one day or all Adults in Action at a worship outing at The Ridge. three. They volunteer in community projects such as helping at the food bank or packing summer lunches. They exercise, go on field trips, and learn life skills. Music, art and functional learning skills like reading, math and communicating are developed. All this takes place in a caring environment with leaders experienced in teaching and serving them. This fun and service oriented group would like to get to know you and participate with you in your ministry. Could you invite them to a UMW circle to help with a project? Do you have an activity or event in which you could immerse yourself with Adults in Action? They would love to get to know you, and you will love knowing them! Find out more at adultsinaction.org or contact Rene Chesnut at CHRISTMAS MARKETPLACE supports local ministries FOR Fayetteville on November 3 More than $100,000 donated to local charities over the past 12 years!
