We need our children to listen to the people who are in charge of them, but this message must be communicated so that children know it s okay to stick up for themselves too. Adult predators may try to use their authority to gain control over their victims. Children should know that when it comes to private parts, secrets, and things that seem dangerous or wrong, they shouldn t worry about disobeying the adult in charge, and instead talk to a trusted adult or a parent. TORIBIO S CORNER: The experts say that Christmas, Epiphany and Baptism of the Lord are complementary, because they speak of the manifestation of God through the Son and today also in the Spirit. The entire Trinitarian community appears in the text: the voice of heaven (the Father), the dove (the Spirit) and the Son. It is an initial and central moment in the life of Jesus. When he was baptized, Jesus became aware of the mission to which he was called by the Spirit. Baptism is the birth of the public life of Jesus. It is now when we hear the joy of the Father who proclaims for it: "You are my Son, the beloved, the beloved." I invite you to consider that there are (in Sacred Scripture) three types of baptisms. John the Baptist tells us: "I baptize you with water; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Being the baptism (with water) the door of entrance to the Church and the baptism in the Spirit, the true birth of the Christian. This arises when we are launched to serve (in some way) in the Church, and to build the Kingdom of God. When we are called to follow the insinuations of the Spirit. But let's look at the second reading of the Acts of the Apostles: Peter had entered the house of Cornelius and saw the Holy Spirit manifested with the tongue of fire on the heads of all. The Church is not a customs office, which decides who is saved and who is not. It is the paternal house where with enough room for each one. In it, we are being prepared to receive the Gospel and the Life of grace. Finally, the third baptism is the baptism of blood. That is, martyrdom. Gift that God grants to a few where and when the Gospel is in danger of being lost or diluted. Let us go then to give testimony of having received the Spirit: let us reinforce our commitment to do justice working for the unity and reconciliation of all men living in equality and fraternity. Let us put aside, like Paul the apostle, the grace s institutionalization and formalism. The Spirit takes us beyond our traditions, theologies... Nothing can bind the Spirit. Dear Grandma: May the little child born us from above fill your days with peace. I am writing to you because I am aware that not every grandma is like you. I ve seen many of them being very picky and disrespectful when talking about the Gospel. With all due respect: You've changed a lot. I have noticed how the grace of God is working in you. I have noticed a lot of sweetness and calmness when you speak of the things of God. When I was a child, you spoke of the non-baptized as "wild people." I heard you call them silly people," "uncultured." You even called them imbeciles. I remember how poorly you spoke of the Protestants and of those who were not marry in the Church; along with those who did not baptize their children. You recognize now, that grace can be more effective than legalism and than your arrogant attitude when it comes to preaching the gospel. Many of us have noticed your tenderness and affection for the things of God and we compel ourselves to serve more eagerly in the Church. Since you changed your bossy and pesky attitude, your neighbors and relatives began to come to the church and to take a more serious commitment in various ministries of the Church. 6 ESTIMADOS FELIGRESES: Dicen los entendidos que las fiestas de Navidad, Epifanía y el Bautismo se complementan, pues nos hablan de la manifestación de Dios por medio del Hijo y hoy además en el Espíritu. En el texto aparece toda la comunidad trinitaria: la voz del cielo (el Padre), la paloma (el Espíritu) y el Hijo. No es por lo tanto un relato cualquiera, sino un momento inicial y central en la vida de Jesús. Al ser bautizado, Jesús tomo conciencia de la misión a la que era llamado por el Espíritu. El bautismo es el nacimiento de la vida pública de Jesús. Es ahora cuando escuchamos el júbilo del Padre que proclama por ello: Tú eres mi Hijo, el amado, el predilecto. Les invito a considerar que hay (en la Sagrada Escritura) tres tipos de bautizos. Juan el Bautista nos lo dice: Yo os bautizo con agua; Él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego. Siendo el bautismo (con agua) la puerta de entrada a la Iglesia y el bautizo en el Espíritu, el verdadero nacimiento del cristiano. Este surge cuando nos vemos lanzados a servir (de algún modo) en la Iglesia y en la construcción del Reino de los Cielos. Nos vemos llamados a seguir las insinuaciones del Espíritu. Pero fijémonos en la segunda lectura de los Hechos. Pedro había entrado en la casa del centurión Cornelio y miró que sobre todos los de su casa estaba posado el Espíritu Santo, sin haber recibido el bautizo de agua. Por ello exclama: "Está claro que Dios acepta al que lo teme y practica la justicia Acaso puede alguno negar el agua del bautismo a éstos, que han recibido el Espíritu como nosotros? La Iglesia está siempre en misión. Todos pueden participar de alguna manera en la vida eclesial, todos pueden integrar la comunidad. Estamos llamados a convertirnos en Hijos, hemos recibido el espíritu de adopción si, y sólo si, nos sentimos empujados a servir en la Iglesia, con la Iglesia y para el Reino De Dios. La Iglesia no es una aduana, que decide quién se salva y quien no. Es la casa paterna donde hay lugar para cada uno con su vida a cuestas y en donde se nos prepara para acoger el Evangelio y la Vida de la gracia. Por último, el tercer bautismo es el bautizo de sangre. Es decir, el martirio. Regalo que Dios concede a unos cuantos en donde y cuando el evangelio corre peligro de perderse o diluirse. Vayamos pues a dar testimonio de haber recibido el Espíritu: reforcemos nuestro compromiso con la justicia: haciendo el bien y trabajar por la unidad y la reconciliación de todos los hombres; viviendo en igualdad y fraternidad. Hagamos a un lado, como Pablo, la institucionalización, la ley, la rigidez, el formalismo. El Espíritu nos lleva más allá de nuestras, tradiciones, teologías... Nada puede atar al Espíritu. CARTA A MI TÍA TOTA Muy estimada Tía Tota: Que el Dios que nos ha nacido de lo alto colme tus días de gracias. Te escribo porque estoy muy sorprendido de tu actual forma de vivir la vida en el Espíritu. Has cambiado mucho, ya no eres la tía criticona y remilgosa de hace años. He notado cómo la gracia de Dios va trabajando en ti. Ahora noto en ti mucha dulzura y sosiego cuando hablas de las cosas De Dios. Cuando te conocí, hablabas de los no bautizados como gente salvaje. Te escuche llamarlos nacos, incultos... Incluso los llegaste a llamar imbéciles. Recuerdo que te expresabas muy mal de los protestantes, de los que no se casaban por la Iglesia y de los que no traían a sus hijos a bautizar. Ahora reconoces que puede más la gracia que el legalismo y tu actitud soberbia a la hora de predicar el evangelio. Muchos hemos notado tu ternura y cariño por las cosas de Dios y nos animamos a servir gratuitamente a la Iglesia. Desde que cambiaste tu actitud mandona y regañona, tus vecinas y parientes empezaron a venir al grupo y a tomar un compromiso más serio en diversos ministerios de la Iglesia.
