6 Message from the Pastor: Deacon Carl A. Gibboney Again Happy Thanksgiving. Unfortunately I have to welcome you to 2017/2018 liturgical year with sad news. Few years ago, the director Deacons in our Archdiocese called me and said that a young man is coming over to talk to me. His name is Deacon Carl Gibboney. He wanted to transfer to our Parish from St. Bartholomew. We did some paper work and the transfer was official. I introduced him to our community and we did what we do best, hospitality. We welcomed him and embraced him. He, in return embraced us. He became part of our infant baptism ministry team, part of our evangelization ministry. He chaired our social justice ministry because of his love for the poor. He is the deacon for our 11:00 am mass. He is one minister I could call at any time and he is ready to help. Unfortunately on early morning of Monday November 27 he went to the Lord. He is now resting with the Lord. We will miss him. His goodbye ceremony is as follows. His Rosary or vigil is on Friday December 8 at 6:30 pm at Beach Blvd., in Huntington Beach. The funeral mass will be on Saturday December 9 th at 2 pm at St. Bernard Catholic Church. May he now Rest In Peace. IMMACUALTE CONCEPTION. The Solemnity of Immaculate conception is on Friday December 8. This is a holy day of Obligation. It means that we are required to attend mass on that day. It will begin with 6:15 pm vigil mass on Thursday December 7 th. Then on December 8 th we will have mass at 8 am, 6 pm and 7:15 pm in Spanish. Some of the misconceptions we have of Immaculate Conception are: The Immaculate Conception is commonly confused with the Virgin Birth of Jesus. The birth of Jesus is covered by the Doctrine of Incarnation, while the Immaculate Conception deals with the conception of Mary, not that of her son. The defined dogma of the Immaculate Conception regards original sin only, saying that Mary was preserved from any stain of sin. However, the Church holds that Mary was also sinless personally, free from all sin, original or personal. We began our novena to the Immaculate Conception on Thursday November 30 th, and will continue till December 8. We normally recite the novena prayer at the end of mass. This novena is to spiritually prepare us for the celebration of this solemnity. This will help us to receive the graces that we can get from this celebration. Mary conceived without sin. Pray for us.
