Go For Gold September is Go For Gold month, where we ask for gold coin donations each week to raise money for the Anglican Board of Mission Australia. This is a Bendigo Diocesan ABM Auxiliary Fundraiser. Visitors next week Next Sunday Chris and Naomi Boyes and, their daughter Annabel will be speaking at both the 9.00am and 11.00am services. Christ and Naomi are known to some, Naomi is the daughter of Rev Ian and Nancy Cutlack. We are very blessed to have them come and share with us. Please see insert for more detail. Walk/Run A Thon is taking place next Sunday 9 September from 12.30pm around our immediate block. Join in with the children and congregation members, bring grandchildren, family and friends; are you able to help by being a marshal along the course; stay and have a bring and share lunch; take a walk for mission sheet and ask your family, friends and neighbours to support our mission projects by giving a donation. Follow Up For those who were able to attend the Curry and Casserole evening, you may recall we had some visitors from Ferntree Gully who read about the event in the Flat Matters and decided to come along. They were a lovely couple of people, mother and daughter who were absolutely delightful and so appreciative of our warm welcome and hospitality. This week I received a lovely card in the mail from them. It reads Dear Reverend Tracey, we had a wonderful evening at the

3 recent curry and casserole night. We met many friendly folk. Your generosity and hospitality was the highlight of our Bendigo trip. Bless you all and many thanks, Maggie and my mother Vera. You never know how much of a difference you may make in someone else's life. May we always have room at the table for more and, hearts ready to welcome the stranger into our midst. 6 Seniors Festival booklets are available in the Narthex. The festival runs 7-14 October Feedback Getting feedback is often a valuable thing and this was certainly the case last week. I received an from someone that read ' thank you for your initiative to embrace Daffodil day and the wonderful, display along the boundary fence is just magnificent. It is almost symbolic that the fence is the cross over point for new comers to the church and that the church is reaching out to others'. That shared reflection put into words a truth that resonated so strongly in my heart. The fence is indeed a cross over point between us and the world beyond the fence. How important is it that we proactively reach out beyond the boundaries to meet people where they are at. I have absolutely no doubt that we are called as God's people to be bridge builders and, connectors. At St Mary's our fence line is the cutting edge on which the world passes by, please, think, pray, imagine, dream, share how we can continue to live on the edge. 25,000-30,000 people pass by the front EVERYDAY. How do we engage with them? How do we engage with them today and tomorrow and the next day and the next day? That is your challenge and mine and, I dare say it is only as limited as our imaginations. Let's get creative. Let's dare to give things a go. When we have the blessing of the pets, wouldn't it be great to have paw prints or silhouettes of animals along the fence with a banner saying 'Blessing of the Pets, Sunday 11am.'??? From the Sanctuary to the Street Here in this sanctuary, we remember, O God, your gift of life to each of us; and we seek to carry it to the streets wherever there is death and violence, wherever there is grief and loss. Here is this sanctuary, we remember, O God, your invitation to belong and find shelter; and we seek to carry it to the streets wherever there is loneliness and rejection, wherever there is homelessness and people are displaced. Here is this sanctuary, we remember, O God, your reign of justice and righteousness; and we seek to carry it to the streets wherever there is lawlessness or tyranny, wherever there is corruption and oppression. Here is this sanctuary,

7 we remember, O God, your sacrifice of love and mercy; and we seek to carry it to the streets wherever there is hatred and evil, wherever there is hopelessness, regret and guilt. Here is this sanctuary, where we remember all that you have done for us, O God, we remember also your call to live what we sing and pray. And so we commit ourselves again to carry our worship from the sanctuary to the streets. In Jesus Name. Amen. God Loves A Cheerful Giver Deuteronomy Our Stewardship text for today is Give liberally and be ungrudging when you do so, for on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. Do you smile as you pay your bills? Or do you grit your teeth as you pay up for the car service, the grocery shopping, the telephone or internet account? Most bills show that we got something we ordered, so we shouldn t groan too much. After all, we did drive the car all those kilometres, we did put the groceries in our trolley, we sent all those text messages and did those downloads. If even our bills deserve a smile, how much more should we be ungrudging when we give our offerings to God! We wanted eternal life, and Jesus paid the whole bill for that when he died on the cross. So we are not paying a debt, with resentment. We are giving a gift, with love.
