2 From Mr. Odell s desk: (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) Ephesians 3: For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Spiritual power is the mark of every genuine believer in Christ who submits to God s Word and allows the person of the Holy Spirit to reveal and teach Truth to us. True spirituality is allowing God to do within and through us what is not natural to us as humans broken by the fall. The ongoing and loving work of the Holy Spirit is to energize, revitalize and empower the committed believer. I have heard it said that when we are in God's presence many questions which we have thought and purposed to ask God will be absolutely unimportant. However the one thing we will explore and glory in for all eternity is the wonder of God's redemptive work and plan. Work predicated on God's heart of love and grace. The call from God is to love Him with a self-giving, serving love for God and His people. To be sure this kind of love only can be produced by our Father and will drive us to even more comprehend with all the saints.the love of Christ. The result will be believers who are spiritual magnets all for the glory of God. For Your Information: The school picture retakes scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, November 8th, have been cancelled. 4 Sonshine Preschool Note ~ Miss Elisha November 6-10, 2017 Theme: Families & Home Bible topic: Families: Jacob & Esau Bible verse: Zechariah 8:16: Speak the truth to each other. ABC Bag/Snack Wed: School Letter: J j Number: 10 ten Fri: School Color: Yellow Shape: Rectangle Mon, Nov.13: Carson Kindergarten Tidbits The Kindergartners will be filling 4 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will do 2 boy and 2 girl boxes. Please bring in your donation any time before November 10. We have 2 filled already. Ideas for boxes; wash rags, soap, flashlight and batteries, socks, shirts (no writing), toothbrushes, scissors, fun pads, school supplies and money for shipping. Monday we will had a fire safety program and fire drill. Friday is Veterans Day. The school is serving any Veterans breakfast and a short program will be presented. We are singing our flag song. David faces his giant, Goliath, in Bible Times. Faith and trust in God can give us courage and help us in times of need. David loved God s word and in Psalm he shows his praise and repentance. He talked with God for wisdom. David was a man after God s own heart. Children and adults have giants to face just like David and God is there to help us. Memory Verse is So do not fear, for I am with you... Isaiah 41: 10a This week in Phonics the letters W, w and Y, y will be introduced for recognition, sound and blends as we continue to read letters, sounds, blends and words. We will make sentences with our word cards reviewing our rules for a sentence. Every sentence begins with a capital letter and most sentences end in a period. Sentences are usually made up of more than one word. Word end sounds will be identified and the students will choose the correct letter to complete a word. Wow! We are reading sentences. The double consonant rule will be reviewed with a song. If a word ends in c and k or a double consonant, you say the sound just once. The new letters and reviewed letters will be written in Handwriting. The boys and girls are carefully writing their letters and producing beautiful handwriting. Take a look at our wall outside our room for best choices to represent their handwriting. In Social Studies we will take a look at George Washington and Washington D.C. Then we will start Pilgrims, Mayflower, Indian writings and the first Thanksgiving. In Numbers our store will be open again for purchases counting out the right amount of pennies that the price tag says. We have introduced the 30 family and we will continue to identify and write all our numbers. The 40 and 50 families will be introduced. We will write the number 10 and match clocks to review o clock times. The students will have a written evaluation and counting to 30. Also adding 1 will be introduced to start addition. We have been in school over 50 days. 100 Day Party here we come!. Language Enrichment and Skills we will be practicing tying shoe laces and identifying where groups of items can be found. We will recite our poems, practice drawing and making shapes with playdoh. Opposite hot/cold, open/closed will be reviewed with other opposites. We go outside as much as possible so please send mittens, gloves, hats and warm coats. Thank you. Mrs. Whitlock
5 1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson This week we will learn about Naomi and Ruth. Our memory verse is Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:10 We had special fire safety program on Monday. Please make sure to check your smoke alarms and discuss a meeting place in case of a fire. We will be filling a shoebox for both a boy and a girl for Operation Christmas Child. We will need toothbrushes, washcloths, small toys, and school supplies for our boxes. Please do not send any candy or toothpaste this year, as they no longer allow it in the boxes because of shipping rules. Items will need to be here by Friday, Nov 10 th. In Phonics, we are learning about syllables and suffixes, in addition to our new daily special sounds. In Math, we will begin to learn about fractions (½ of a whole and ½ of a group) introduce the 8 subtraction family, differentiate between A.M. or P.M (morning/night), and learn that there are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute. The students really enjoyed our guest reader, Madison Swisher's grandma, last Friday afternoon. She read a few of the Piggy and Gerald books by Mo Willems. Please let me know if you would like to be a guest reader! 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett In Bible class this week we are continuing to learn about Ruth. Our verse is Galatians 5:14; The entire law is summed up in a single command; Love your neighbor as yourself. We will recite this verse on Friday. Spelling test 10 will also be on Friday. 3rd grade ~ Mrs. Cleary We are continuing to work on our personal narratives and our unit on verbs in English class. In history we are learning about Colonial America. In math class this week we will count quarters and combine them with other coins and dollar bills. We will also begin working on the eleven addition family. We will be working on filling a shoebox for both a boy and a girl for Operation Christmas Child. We will need toothbrushes, washcloths, small toys, and school supplies for our boxes. Please do not send any candy or toothpaste this year, as they no longer allow it in the boxes because of shipping rules. Items will need to be here by Friday, November 10 th. This weeks Bible verse is Matthew 5:7-8, the 5th and 6th Beatitude: Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. The children are doing very well. We are done with 6 out of 9 Beatitudes. Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes need to be completed by this Friday. We are still in need of a WOW toy for a boy and a girl age 5-9, and the shoeboxes are still waiting to be filled! I look forward to seeing it happen. All it takes is one small item like a bar of soap or a box of crayons to bless these little ones across the continents. The class field trip is a week away on November 14th. We have plenty of cars and drivers. Thank you, parents and grandparents! Please make sure you bring a copy of insurance card and drivers license to the office to place on file. This is very important! Watch the weather and prepare to dress appropriately and bring a sack lunch. I am still waiting for the permission slips to be turned in. The note went out a week ago. Last Friday we had an amazing time in Science class as the students competed an in-class mammal poster and presentation. They worked in pairs and I am so impressed with how well they did. We will hang the posters up for Open House next month. This week in class: Spelling List 11 test on Wednesday Bible - We are discussing all about Jesus who is the rock we build our house on. Prayer, Worship, Bible and Fellowship are the walls and rood. They drew and colored their version of this parable. History - Review Pocahontas and on to Squanto. Language - all about verbs
6 3rd grade continued - Health and Science - We are studying about the human body. We plan to make modeling clay versions of the parts of the brain, the eye and the ear. How amazing Our God is in His creation. We are awed by the nervous system and the way the nerves travel with messages from the brain down the spinal cord and through the body. Math - division and money. Please keep working on math facts. Many have stalled on these and need a little jumpstart to get them finished. God bless the 3rd graders and their families! In Christ, Mrs. Cleary 4th grade ~ Mrs. Odell Our Scripture focus this week is I Thess. 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. We are also refining the Phil.2:5-11 passage. Thank you for all the donations toward the shoe boxes. We are continuing our giving focus toward our community this week. We will be starting compare/contrast writing in English later this week. Math is keeping us busy learning about factoring which leads into fractions. Again, please practice facts at home. We began the Great Awakening chapter in history, and we are learning about God s amazing creativity in birds. We will be testing on spelling list 11 Wednesday and then we will begin and do list 12. 5th grade ~ Mr. Clausen 6th, 7th & 8th grade Math ~ Mr. Luft Mrs. Cook s Jr. High News: Have a wonderful week!
