Please have your child at school by 6:15 pm, ready to perform. We will have a dress rehearsal during school on 4/5. Please ensure that your child brings everything (music, instrument, props, costumes) needed to school. Thank you, Parents! We are looking forward to a great show! Mrs. Marshall NO afternoon bus service on Friday, April 13th. Six Flags Reading Logs will be coming home with students today! The reading logs need to be returned by May 1st. Any student reaching the reading goal will receive a FREE ticket to Six Flags!!! I Can Only Imagine...Princeton Bible Church is having a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater on Saturday, April 14th. Come see this much anticipated movie and support the church s mission trip to Peru, South America! This is a private showing at 10 a.m. You may purchase tickets from the office for $12, which includes the show, drink, and popcorn. 2 From Mr. Odell s desk: (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) 1 John 1:5-2:6 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his son cleanses us from all sin. 8 I we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (2) 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says I know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know we are in him: 6 whoever says his abides in him ought to walk in the same in which he walked. This passage counters the false teaching of John s time and the natural tendency of the human heart to misrepresent Jesus and therefore to lessen the awfulness of sin. Even as believers, sin can work its way into our lives and we can become calloused to the deadening effect sin brings to our hearts and lives. However all is not lost as Jesus stands before the Father as our Advocate having fully satisfied the Righteous demands of our Holy God. It is so easy for our hearts to become stone. My prayer for me and for us is that God will melt our hearts of stone with His grace, and we will love God with a love like His. 3 Kindergarten Tidbit ~ Mrs. Whitlock I am soooooo glad to be back with these precious and wonderful Kindergartners! We are preparing ourselves for 1st grade during seatwork, expectations and maturity goals to take us toward the end of Kindergarten. We are planning a field trip to the Peoria Zoo and Children s Museum on May 2. We will need drivers. More details will come soon. Please sign up for conferences that will start next week. There is a sign up on my door. We still need baby pictures of each child to be glued in our Science books, approximately a 3x4 size with birth weight and height. Does anyone know of some fertilized chick eggs we could get to hatch???? In Science we will finish our senses and start God s Plan for Weather. We will put a rain gauge outside our window and make windsocks to see from our window. We are learning about a thermometer and logging the day s weather. We will experiment with pin wheels and see what happens to the water in the pie pan. Where did the water go? We are discovering weather through other pictures and books. Hopefully we will fly a kite. In Numbers we will review o clock, half past the hour and quarter after the hour. We will review and concentrate on addition fact to the seventh family. The value of coins; penny, nickel and quarter will be reviewed and we will have an oral evaluation. In between numbers to 100 will be introduced using a cracker visual. Review of all before and after numbers will be written and verbally practiced. Letters will be practiced in Handwriting in words and sentences. Character Development will focus on gentleness. We will demonstrate listening skills and following instructions. The poem Bed in Summer by Robert Louise Stephenson will be introduced and poems for memorization will be practiced. We have picked our poems for graduation. We will have fun with riddles and dot to dot with numbers and letters. In Phonics special sounds squ and thr will be introduced and all special sounds will be reviewed. The new sight word have will be introduced and all sight words reviewed through evaluation. We will finish a sentence by choosing the three or more right words to make the sentence complete. Blends will be evaluated and we will make words that begin with the blend. We will spell dictated words and write them. Each row of children will be given a special sound to come up with as many words that start with the special sound as possible. The row that has the most words will be surprised. We will continue practice marking vowels and special sounds. Read, read and read some more at home in our Readers. There are stickers and prizes for signed books. The children are reading wonderfully. I am listening for smoothness and expression.

4 Kindergarten Continued... In Bible Time we will start the story of the Ten Lepers. Thankfulness and praise is important in our everyday life. God is all powerful and God loves to hear our praises. Praising God brings attention to God and lets others know how wonderful He is and brings us closer to God. Mercy is undeserved kindness that we have been shown and we can show others as we put our hope and trust in God. We will write a cheer to express glory to God and make pom-poms to use with our cheer. Our memory verse is Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. Psalm 100:4 We will pick memory verses for graduation this week. Mrs. Whitlock 1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson In Bible we will be learning about Believing in God and how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Our memory verse this week is Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15b In Phonics this week, we are identifying words used to make contractions. We are reviewing our suffix rules, compounds words, homonyms, A-B-C order, rhyming words, and syllables, in addition to learning new special sounds. In Math this week we are learning the 12 Subtraction Family. We are also reviewing measures, fractions, counting by threes, telling time, place value, long combinations (adding and subtracting 3, 4 and 5 numbers), and counting coins in mixed order. Please return March Book-It Reading Logs by Wednesday! Hope everyone had a wonderful break and blessed Easter! 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett We will be having a rehearsal for the talent show on Thursday at 1:15. If your child needs to bring music or any props for their performance in the talent show be sure they bring them Thursday morning. In Bible class this week we are looking at what it means to be compassionate. Our verse is Matthew 9:36: When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. We will recite this verse on Friday. Spelling Test 26 will also be on Friday. In English class we are starting a new unit on verbs with helping words. In math we will learn how to round numbers to the nearest 10, the 16 subtraction family, and how to estimate sums. We are continuing to practice counting by 2 s, 3 s, and 4 s and are working hard on our math facts. We have almost finished learning all the letters of the alphabet in cursive. Hopefully we will learn Ww, Xx, and Yy this week.

5 3rd grade ~ Mrs. Cleary Spelling List 28 - Pretest on Wednesday and Test Thursday. Math - Roman Numerals, Review, Measurement, Equations, Test. *** Please keep working on multiplication facts, 7 s and 8 s. We will be starting 9 s. History - Review Clara Barton. Next will be Ulysses Grant. Language - Finishing up special activities and writing our own story. Reading - Finishing up Better Bridges. Starting Worlds of Wonder. Health - Personal Hygiene. 4th grade ~ Mrs. Odell We will be focusing on the Lord s Prayer this week. We will test on spelling list 28 Wednesday. We are studying the New Frontiers in history, continuing Astronomy in science and learning about adjectives and adverbs in language this week. We will begin working with decimals in math. We want to have a kite-flying day soon. If your child has a kite, they may bring it any day now. We will evaluate weather on a day to day basis for windiness Our Springfield trip is Friday, April 20. We will leave school at 7:45 a.m. and be home about 12 hours later! We plan to visit the state capitol building/s, the Abraham Lincoln Museum, Lincoln s tomb. Have a very precious week walking with the Lord and thinking on His boundless love for you. 5th grade ~ Mr. Clausen Upcoming Events: April 10 - Nation Fair April 27 - Symphony Field Trip May 4 - Conservation Day at Warnecke Woods Nation Notebooks are due today. Next week we will have our Nation Fair on Tuesday, April 10th. At the Nation Fair, students will have a display including their Nation Notebook, a tri-fold poster board and any artifacts or objects of interest related to their Nation. Students may also have a taste of their Nation for others to sample. The rest of the school and parents are invited to join in. History and Health chapter tests are tomorrow! Any parents interested in driving for the upcoming field trips, please contact the office.

6 Science ~ Mr. Cornman 6th - The kids are working on their Science Fair Project, Tie-Dye shirts, and how different elements effect each other. Then, we ll go to Matter and Chemistry. 7th - Students will be working on their Hypothesis for the Science Fair, then The Insect Body Plan. 8th - Students will be working on their Hypothesis for the Science Fair, then continue in Physics: Work = Force x distance and Power = Work / Time Mrs. Cook s Jr. High News: History : 6th grade: We have been taking a visual tour of Mexico. Students should expect a quiz over Thursday. 7th grade: This week we study Napoleon and the French Revolution. 8th grade: We are continuing our studies of s America. This week will focus on economics and the 1st World War. Language Arts: 6th grade: Spelling List 21 workbooks are due Thursday. Test will be Friday. We have already studied most of these words in Literature. Also, students were given a book two weeks ago to ready as a book report book. The book should be read by this Sunday, so that we can write those reports and present them next Wednesday. We are also working on our research reports. We are doing a lot of this together in class. Students who miss class may need to work on it on their own time. They are shaping up great! 7th grade: We are returning to our textbooks to finish a poetry unit. We will also be continuing our work in grammar. Play: Schedule for practices this week is Tuesday (today) until 4:30. PRACTICE Thursday was CANCELLED. We will have the final six pages blocked by Friday! Publicity Photos will be taken during study halls on Friday. I have asked students to bring their costumes as soon as possible. We do have pieces that we can use from our closet for some. I have asked students with animal roles to have matching pants and shirts. Sweats and turtlenecks will work for animals, etc. Students may use a headband or hat to add body parts or face parts for the animals. These need to be here the Monday after break. All costumes need to be here by then. We can pull some for the people in the play from the closet. Otherwise students need to come up with their own. If you would like to create something to add to it from home that will be fine. I will purchase fake fur, etc. 8TH Grade Language Arts ~ Mrs. Kiser We finished the poetry unit and will have the test Thursday or Friday.

7 Jr. High Choir - Mrs. Holmes I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. Psalm 104:33 The Jr. High Choir will be performing in the PCA Talent Show this Thursday, April 5th. All 6th-8th grade students will be Singing with Jubilation! Please mark your calendar for our Spring Band/Choir Concert on Thursday, May 10th. We look forward to showing you our progress as we sing songs we did at the ACSI Music Festival along with a couple other pieces.
