PCA Eagle s Nest News US Hwy 34 Princeton, IL princetonchristianacademy@yahoo.com November 6, 2018 THINGS TO NOTE... Thank you to Miss Beverly and all the work she put into our Christmas Sale! It was a big success and the children had such a great time picking out those special gifts for their family. Thank you also to everyone who donated items! Reminder that school PICTURE RE-TAKES are tomorrow, Wednesday, November 7th. December lunch menus are going home tomorrow and due back next Wednesday, November 14th! Operation Christmas Child: Hopefully your family has started or will be working on a shoebox for a child overseas. It s such a blessing to give to a child in need and to be able to involve our own children and teach them about sharing our abundance with others. Please turn-in your shoeboxes by this Friday, November 9th. Many classrooms are doing shoeboxes together. Please check with your student s teacher if donations are needed. Thank you for giving and please pray for the families who will be touched by these gifts and more importantly, will have the gospel of Christ shared with them! Many of you know Kirsten Wolbrecht and her family as they were a big part of PCA for many years. The family moved to the state of Washington last year and is now facing a very difficult time as Kirsten has been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. It is a very aggressive form of breast cancer and she is currently receiving heavy chemo treatments. Kirsten and the family could use encouragement and words of truth right now. If you would like to send a note, the address is: th St. E, Bonney Lake, WA It would be great to have your kids write a note as well or draw a picture for Kirsten. That would bless her so much! Please keep praying for this dear family. 2 From Mr. Odell s desk: (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) Ephesians 3: For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Spiritual power is the mark of every genuine believer in Christ who submits to God s Word and allows the person of the Holy Spirit to reveal and teach Truth to us. True spirituality is allowing God to do within and through us what is not natural to us as humans broken by the fall. The ongoing and loving work of the Holy Spirit is to energize, revitalize and empower the committed believer. The call from God is to love Him with a self-giving, serving love for God and His people. To be sure this kind of love only can be produced by our Father and will drive us to even more comprehend with all the saints.the love of Christ. The result will be believers who are spiritual magnets all for the glory of God. Sunday, November 11th Thank you to those who have served and fought for our freedoms. TEACHER S NOTES FOR YOU! Bible Song: Promised Land Letter: J j Number: 10 Ten Color: Yellow Shape: Triangle ABC Bag/Snack Wed, Nov 7 - Miss Deb Fri, Nov 9 - Miss Elisha Mon, Nov 12 - Bryant
Kindergarten Tidbit ~ Mrs. Whitlock The Kindergartners will be filling 2 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will do a boy and a girl boxes. Please bring in your donation any time before November 9th. Ideas for boxes; wash rags, soap, flashlight and batteries, socks, shirts (no writing), toothbrushes, scissors, fun pads, school supplies and money for shipping. Also your Thankful turkey feathers should be completed this week and returned to school, please by Friday. David faces his giant, Goliath, in Bible Times. Faith and trust in God can give us courage and help us in times of need. David loved God s word and in Psalm he shows his praise and repentance. He talked with God for wisdom. David was a man after God s own heart. Children and adults have giants to face just like David and God is there to help us. Memory Verse is So do not fear, for I am with you... Isaiah 41: 10a This week in Phonics the letters W, w and V, v will be introduced for recognition, sound and blends as we continue to read letters, sounds, blends and words. We will make sentences with our word cards, reviewing our rules for a sentence. Every sentence begins with a capital letter and most sentences end in a period. Sentences are usually made up of more than one word. Word end sounds will be identified and the students will choose the correct letter to complete a word. Wow! We are reading sentences. The double consonant rule will be reviewed with a song. If a word ends in c and k or a double consonant, you say the sound just once. We are making a book of the sentences we read and illustrate. The new letters and reviewed letters will be written in Handwriting. The boys and girls are carefully writing their letters and producing beautiful handwriting. Take a look at our wall outside our room for best choices to represent their handwriting. In Social Studies we will continue America, Our Great Nation. In Numbers our store will be open again for purchases counting out the right amount of pennies that the price tag says. We have introduced the 30 and 40 families will be introduced. We will write the number 10 and match clocks to review o clock times. The students will have a written evaluation and counting to 30. Our new poem Three Guests. Language Enrichment and Skills we will be practicing tying shoe laces and identifying where groups of items can be found. We will solve some riddles which the children love. We go outside as much as possible so please send mittens, gloves, hats and warm coats as the weather gets cooler. Thank you. Mrs. Whitlock
1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson Bible - This week we will learn about Ruth. Our memory verse is Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10 Phonics This week we will continue to review root words and suffixes and syllables. We will also practice how to mark a word with a suffix - underline the root word and circle the suffix. This week s special sounds are -ong in long, -ung in strung, -ank in bank, -ink in wink, -onk in honk, and -unk in trunk. Math This week we will learn about the hundreds place, recall before and after numbers by twos, identify ½ of a whole and ½ of a group, and understand the difference between A.M. and P.M. We will review our 8 addition family facts, telling time to the hour, and months of the year. We will continue our special speed drills. Please keep practicing math flashcards at home! Spelling please practice week #11 words at home. We now have 15 spelling words each week, so please practice each night at home. Thank you! The goal for our class is to fill two shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, one for a boy and one for a girl. Students need to bring in items for the shoeboxes by the end of this week! Please don't forget items like school supplies and toothbrushes! Please check FISH binders for homework assignments. Thank you, parents, for initialing the homework sheets! We have eighteen tallies and need just two more for our class popcorn party! 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett We are collecting items for a shoe box for a boy and a girl for Operation Christmas Child. We currently have beanie baby bears, crayons, a wash cloth, and a pair of socks for each box. We still need toothbrushes, some hard candy, school supply items, soap, and combs and brushes. If you would like to help with this project please send any items by Friday. In Bible class this week we are continuing our unit on Ruth. This week we will learn how to serve others. Our Bible verse is Galatians 5:14; The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself. We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 11 on Friday. Bonus spelling words for the week are: embrace, hurricane, pioneer, deceive, and molasses. In math classes this week we will work on the 14 addition family, temperatures to odd degrees, adding four digit combinations and four digit addition and subtraction combinations. In Phonics and Language class we will be working on chart 12 and 13 special sounds. We will continue to identify all four types of sentences. We will also work on adding prefixes to root words and dividing words into syllables using the rules we have learned. In history class we are learning about pioneers.
3rd grade ~ Mrs. Glass Bible - Memory verse is John 3:3. We are learning what it means to be born again...asking Jesus to come into our hearts and accepting Him as our Savior. Also, why did Jesus come into this sinful world? He didn t come to condemn the world, but to save the world. How awesome God s words are! Math - We are getting into double-digit division and multiplying by 5 s. We finished up reading about Squanto s life. This month, we will be reading about the first Thanksgiving...how the pilgrims settled into the New World. The Science test over all of Chapter 1 is pushed back to Wednesday, November 14th. If you would like to donate for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, this Friday is the last day to bring items in. -Mrs. Glass 4th grade ~ Mrs. Odell Our Scripture focus this week is I Thes. 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. We are also refining the Phil.2:5-11 passage. Thank you for all the donations toward the shoe boxes. We are continuing our giving focus toward our community this week. We are starting verbs in English today. Math is keeping us busy learning about Mixed numbers which leads into more work with fractions. Again, please practice facts at home. We will begin the Great Awakening chapter in history, and we are learning about God s amazing creativity in birds. We will be testing on spelling list 11 Wednesday and then we will begin and do list 12. Have a wonderful week! 5th grade ~ Mr. Clausen There will be a History Test on Friday and a Science Test next Tuesday. Keep working on your Missionary Project. Students need to create a poster board for their historical missionary (similar to the Mammal Project). The poster board needs to include name, picture, years of life/ministry, map of ministry, notable achievements, important or interesting facts about the missionary, and a meaningful quote. The project is due next Friday, November 16! Also, keep working on your Nation Notebooks! Science ~ Mr. Cornman 6th - Volcanoes their structure and locations, Quiz on section 3.3 probably Thursday then on to more Volcanoes their classifications, forming and activity. 7th - Introducing Diseases, causes, types (infectious, noninfectious and common) then on to Drug Abuse. 8th - Reviewing chapter 4 for a chapter quiz, then on to The Nature of Heat (transferring energy, holding thermal energy, measuring thermal energy).
Mrs. Cook s Jr. High News: History: 6th graders are beginning a study of the history of the Eastern United States. Mapping will focus on Peninsulas this week. We are also beginning an essay: Why I Am Proud of America. We are just beginning this. Students are given some time in class to formulate ideas or write. We will be writing at a paragraph or two a day pace. First drafts will be turned in during class on Monday for editing. 7th graders are studying the Roman Empire this week. Great job on those project kids! They are awesome. 8th graders have begun Constitution and Civics studies. Students have a poster due Thursday on the three branches of the government. The Civics Activity booklet is due Jan. 3rd. Language Arts: 6th graders are on List 9 in Spelling. We are working on forms of predicates and beginning that essay. They will have a short reading assignment most evenings this week. 7th Grade This class is finishing up some short stories and working hard on vocabulary improvement. We will be reading the classic Doctor Doolittle as our next novel. It is a children s book but the vocabulary is robust! Expect a daily quiz over reading. BOTH classes are working on the essay mentioned in the sixth grade history section. 7th graders are working more independently, and will be expected to make excellent word choices and keep it grammatically clean. It is a short word essay. A Note from Mrs. Marshall... Welcome to November! Can you believe our music festival was three weeks ago? We now have only five (5) rehearsals until our Christmas concert! All band students will play on Friday 12/14/18 at 6:30 pm. Call time is 6:00 pm. It is crucial that your musicians bring their music, a sharpened pencil, instrument and the accessories they need to play every Tuesday. We only meet once a week, so our time is precious and vital to our band being successful, all for His glory! Advanced Band students have a concert report due this quarter. They received the details and report forms during rehearsal last week. They will need to attend a live instrumental concert to complete this assignment. I sent home a concert sheet today. Please ask them about this assignment and feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you all for your help and support!
