We have technological tools our parents could only dream of, and we are saturated with information, amusement, and recreation. Yet more than ever, we are starving for hope. School shootings are all too familiar. Depression is on the rise. And more people than ever are orchestrating their own deaths. In America alone, the suicide rate has increased 24 percent in fewer than twenty years. If a disease saw such a spike, it would be deemed an epidemic. People are dying from a lack of hope. If you want Peanuts this Fall, order them now! At the Fair, there will be no put my name on, hold for me, hide this under the table Peanuts. Members of our Congregation (including those working at the Fair) will need to stand in the same line as other Fair attendees. Orders may be placed for any, or all, of nine Peanut sessions in August, September, November, and December. A twelve ounce bag of Peanuts costs $7.00. Up to five bags may be ordered for any of these dates. Please place orders for yourself only. Orders from non-members will be accepted beginning September 10. Do your Christmas shopping early! Volunteers for Meals on Wheels -- Can You Help? From September 4-28, 2018, our church is responsible for providing volunteers to deliver noon meals to elderly homebound residents in Fort Atkinson. There are two Meals on Wheels routes in the city, with delivery taking about one hour. The meals are picked up from the Ambulatory Services Entrance of Fort Memorial Hospital on McMillen Street at 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. It is helpful to have two volunteers for each route: one to drive, and the other to follow the schedule and read the Driving Directions. Please check your calendars and if you can help, please call Mary Ellen Watch for a sign up on the Outreach Board in the narthex coming soon. If you can only help one or two days, or

5 Prayer Quilt This morning we dedicate a Prayer Quilt for Shirley Abel Redman. Shirley, who resides in Lake Placid, FL, is the sister of Bob Abel of Our Family of Faith. Shirley was confirmed in our church in She is undergoing treatment for cancer. Shirley asks your prayers for Patience Strength Comfort. After Worship you are invited to tie your prayers for Shirley into her quilt as you ask God to remain close to Shirley and all those who love her. Hoard-Nasco Dinners Yes, it really is that time again. It s time for our Church to play host to some 400 high school and college students who come to us from all parts of the country and who will be attending the International Dairy Exo in Madison. They all have an interest in the dairy industry and visit the Hoard s Dairyman Farm, the Hoard Historical Museum, W.D. Hoard & Son Printing Company, and Nasco during their visit to Fort Atkinson. They also have their noon meal here at First Congregational Church! Feeding all these active youth takes a lot of effort, and we hope YOU can help. There will be a planning meeting for the Hoard-Nasco Dinners on Wednesday, September 5, at 4:00 pm in Plymouth Hall. You are invited to attend. New faces and fresh ideas are always welcome. This year we will be serving lunch on Sunday and Monday, September 30 and October 1. Hope you can attend the planning meeting. Dart Ball season will begin soon! Deep Blue Rotation Model The rotation model is a creative approach to Sunday school. In a traditional Sunday-school model, a different Bible story is presented each week. When using the rotation model, the same story is taught for multiple weeks. Use of the rotation model for Sunday school offers several advantages: Deeper exploration of the Bible story Since each Bible story is taught for several weeks, children have an opportunity to engage with the same story in multiple ways. Children who miss a week of Sunday school still have an opportunity to hear the story. Use of multiple learning styles Not all children (or adults) learn in the same way. The use of stations that focus on different learning styles allows children opportunities to engage with the story in a variety of ways.
