Our Pro-Life Committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month in the Cry Room of church at 7:00 P.M. Join Us! Sunday Reflection "When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it." How many of us think of our faith as "a pearl of great price"? How many of us really recognize the precious treasure we already possess? As baptized Christians, we have been welcomed into God's family. We are royalty in his kingdom! No matter what our status may be on earth, no matter what treasures we may or may not own right now, we are heirs of God's h e a v e n l y k i n g d o m. It is easy to take this for granted, however. On this side of eternity, it's even a temptation to forget that we have been adopted into God's family. Right now, for us, "the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field." That is to say, the treasure isn't always so obvious. But that doesn't mean it isn't there. It just means that we have to dig a little bit to find it. We have to remove whatever layers of dirt or sand may be obscuring the priceless package and bring it back i n t o t h e d a y l i g h t. So where is our treasure buried? What, if anything, is obscuring the full flourishing of our faith? Is it buried by the demands of work or school? Is our faith hidden beneath the weight of sickness or sorrow? Have we covered it over with false "treasures" that only give us fleeting joy? Or have we never even given our faith the chance to (Continued on page 4)

You can also call or text Scott Seibert at Stewardship A profound stewardship prayer is offered by the young King Solomon in today s first reading. He asks the Lord to give him an understanding heart, compassion towards God s people and the insight to distinguish right from wrong. An understanding heart, or wisdom, is a gift from God. It is a gift that enables us to make good decisions and prudent choices. Cultivating and sharing this gift is essential, especially when poor decisions and lack of compassion have consequences that affect the lives of others. Do we exercise good stewardship over the gift of wisdon? Do we share our compassionate hearts with others? 5 True holiness does not mean a flight from the world; rather, it lies in the effort to incarnate the Gospel in everyday life, in the family, at school and at work, and in social and political involvement. St. Pope John Paul II Letter to our School Parents & Guardians Dear Parents/Guardians, May the blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ be always with you! I hope that you and your families had a wonderful summer. The staff of St. Michael Catholic School is looking forward seeing all of our students this week. Our theme this year is: By Our Works, We Show Our Faith In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matt 5:16 Through this theme we hope to encourage all of our students to look for ways to be of service and to show our faith not only during worship but also throughout the school day. As a staff, we promise our parents a safe, faith-based, learning environment for their children in Prekindergarten through Eighth grade. I am joined in this commitment by our amazing faculty and staff who are dedicated to each student s success in the classroom. We partner with parents who are the primary educators of their children. We are very blessed to have two new teachers with us this year, Miss Kara McCarthy and Mr. Brian Hammett. Both are very committed to their Catholic Faith and are looking forward to guiding your students this year. Parents, you are encouraged to support us with your time and talent by volunteering in our school for the benefit of all St. Michael students. Our students show their love for Christ and others by looking after one another, treating their peers with respect, doing their best every day, and caring for the environment. We are a community working together, valuing children and teaching values. School will begin at 8:00 for the Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten on Tuesday. Students in grades 1-8 will begin on Wednesday. We are looking forward to working with the St. Michael students, parents, staff, pastor and parishioners as we begin an exciting new year. Together, with God s help, we will continue to make an already great school, an even greater School! You are always welcome to stop by the school and visit. My door is always open to you!
