3 Dear Parishioners. Tomorrow, September 11 th, marks the 16 th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks in our city and across our land. In the aftermath of that fateful moment in American history a National Day of Unity and Service has been created and has become the nation s largest day of service. On Monday, major volunteer projects are planned across the country including packing over 500,000 meals for those in need in New York City and those communities affected by Hurricane Harvey. This will take place at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan. There is a special website, 9/11day.org., that lists numerous ways for Americans to pay tribute by joining together and spending the day performing good deeds. There are lesson plans, photos, videos and other resources for individuals, parents and teachers, and organizations. It is the hope of David Paine, President of the 9/11 Day, to encourage all Americans to remember the importance of valuing and treating each other with respect and kindness every day of the year. Co-hosts of the NYC Meal Pack include the Wounded Warrior Project, New York Cares, Islamic Relief USA, UJA Federation of New York and Catholic Charities of New York. Perhaps as we observe moments of silence tomorrow and can share personal messages and prayers through 9/11day.org. the following prayer and our own acts of goodness will offer consolation to those whose loved ones died and relief to others presently in need. O God, Creator of the universe, who extends your paternal concern over every creature and guides the events of history to the goal of salvation, we acknowledge your fatherly love when you break the resistance of mankind and, in a world torn by strife and discord, you make us ready for reconciliation. Renew for us the wonders of your mercy; send forth your Spirit that he may work in the intimacy of hearts, that enemies may begin to dialogue, that adversaries may shake hands and peoples may encounter one another in harmony. May all commit themselves to the sincere search for true peace which will extinguish all arguments, for charity which overcomes hatred, for pardon which disarms revenge. -St. John Paul II UPCOMING MEETINGS SPECIAL EVENTS MEETING will take place on Wednesday, September 20th at 7:30 PM in the Teacher s Lounge. All members are encouraged to attend and make plans for exciting special events for the parish in the Pastoral Year! We kindly ask you to bring the clothing on that day only and the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the parish thanks you for your donations.
