1 Fall has Fallen October 2018 Part of the reason I love Ohio is the change of seasons and the variety of natural scenery it provides. It s not like I dislike fall. I just wish summer lasted a couple extra months. But since fall has fallen, I am embracing it. Soon, trees will be donning beautiful colors. Footballs and soccer balls are kicked around outdoors; volleyballs are flying, too. Many of us enjoy watching our favorite teams. Some us of are cheering our favorite baseball teams toward the fall classic. The crops are turning and exiting the fields. Harvest time is busy, but it tends to be a happy time. The last few veggies are leaving our gardens. Our pumpkins may even make it as long as first frost waits until Halloween. Following summer hiatuses, various groups fill the church with joyful noise and thoughtful learning. Add in family traditions and other fall activities, and fall seems like the most fun season of the year. Singer/songwriter Kim McLean from Nashville will be here Saturday, October 20th at 6:00 for an outdoor country concert. Food and family fun is planned prior to the concert starting at 4:30. The weather committee plans for a great fall evening, but we will have a warm church house if we need to move inside. She will lead us in worship with gospel music with one service Sunday morning at 10:30. Bring your friends. So here s to a fun, faith-filled, festive fall (or an audacious autumn if you prefer). 2 October 2018 Now that October is here, we are a month into Wednesday night ministries. Our theme verse for this year is John 16:33. Jesus starts this verse by saying, I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. In YF we re diving into that statement and looking at things that Jesus tells us. We re looking at how things that Jesus tells us to do that we don t necessarily view for our good, like fasting, actually are designed to give us peace in life. Jesus doesn t tell us things to burden us with more to do. He tells us things so we can have peace. Please continue to pray for teenager s hearts to be open and to be changed by Christ. The youth group will be heading to the corn maze on October 14 th! We ll meet at the church at 5 and take 2 trips back, one at 8:30, the other at 10. Students in grade 7-12 are welcome to attend and will need money to cover the cost of admission + any food they want. Have a great October! Pastor Tom

3 Agape Missions Worldwide Update: As a part of efforts to help girls develop employment skills and the ability to support themselves, Agape Missions Worldwide had a Women s Day fundraiser in March 2018 to enable Agape Pakistan to purchase sewing machines and start a training program at their facility. It was successful and raised $722. Seven sewing machines were purchased. They will remain at the Agape Center so classes can be ongoing for the older girls as well as for women from the Christian community. All members of Chapel are invited to attend this conference. The work on the church directory has already started!!! If your address or phone number has changed, please let the office know. Join Bishop Gregory V. Palmer for an evening of inspiration, worship, testimony and sharing. All West Ohio United Methodists are encouraged to attend. Each event is FREE; however, PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for dinner and to receive printed materials. Each person wanting to attend MUST complete a registration form. Dinner will start at 6:00 pm and programming will begin at 6:45 pm and end at 8:30 pm. Please go to IBelieve to register. Kim McLean is a career songwriter with over 300 song credits by artists like country megastars Tim McGraw and Lee Ann Womack; blues-greats Bettye LaVette and Shana Morrison; and gospel mainstays The Martins and Sierra. Grammy- nominated, she won the GMA Song of Year for her gospel copyright Count Your Blessing. She has also garnered awards from the N.S.A.I., ASCAP, and the Just Plain Folk Americana Song of the Year. Her musical TV/ Film credits include NBC s West Wing, CBS Cold Case and Early Edition, and ABC s Hope & Faith. She has produced acts for Sony, Warner Brothers, Curb, and several award winning independent acts. Kim is known for her ability to find the voice of the singer in the studio through her original songs and unique production. Highlights as a recording artist include touring with Shana Morrison on shows with Van Morrison and Leo Kottke, a cameo on ABC s Hope & Faith (with three of her original songs), and a duet with Dolly Parton. Kim McLean has performed at the historic Ryman, is a regular at The Bluebird Café, at major festivals in the U.S. and U.K. with rocker Eve Selis, and led worship for a mission in Beijing, China. As owner and visionary of HCT Media, LLC, a creative collective for music and art, Kim McLean is creating a spotlight for other talented writers and artists. Kim accepted the call to become an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene in She has travelled extensively as an evangelist and served as Associate Pastor at Christ Fellowship Church of the Nazarene. She has taught for over ten years at Trevecca University to help develop an Associate s Degree in Songwriting and earned her doctorate in Leadership in 2018.
