Natural disasters have been anything but natural, and have, in fact, far exceeded the normal course of events. When has there ever been so much rain as Hurricane Harvey dumped on Houston? When has a hurricane gone right up the middle of Florida? When has Puerto Rico ever lost all of its electrical power from a hurricane? And all within a month! Although the newscasters hardly had time to cover it, the West has had excessive heat and lack of rain, with resulting forest fires. We may just want to turn off the news and cover our heads, but as people of God we are challenged to care for those in need. We are blessed to have our Lutheran Social Service agencies already in place, but they only have what we give to work with. Since we were spared this time, we can share with those who have lost so much. Please find it in your heart to make a meaningful donation. You may add it to regular Sunday offering. Meanwhile, we have gotten into the busier time in the congregation. Sunday School and Choir are back in action. I am teaching three classes a week. Pastor s Sunday School class and Thursday evening Beer and Bible at O Bryan s are looking at the language of the Augsburg Confession as part of our study of the 500 th Anniversary of the Reformation. The Thursday morning Bible study is working with how we use the Bible as God s Word in our lives. We are planning some special activities for Reformation Sunday, 29. There will be some fun learning activities during the 9:00 Sunday School hour. Worship will be followed by a meal. Cost will be by donation. There will be a sign-up sheet so we know how many are coming. The highlight of the morning will be a special Reformation sermon by a very special Preacher Pastor Karen will be back with us after her maternity leave. A few events of the greater church invite our attention, participation, and/or prayers: On Saturday, 7, 10:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Strongsville, there will be a Northeastern Ohio Synod SERVICE OF ORDINATION for two new Pastors. One of them, Cindy Striker, is a member of St. Timothy, Mansfield. She has been called as Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton. The other ordained is Kathryn Jacob, called to Holy Trinity, Massillon.

2 Sunday, 8 is the WOMEN OF THE ELCA ASHLAND-RICHLAND CLUSTER MEETING, 4:30 p.m. at First, Shelby. Saturday or Sunday, 14-15, congregations of our Synod bring their LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF projects to Jerusalem Lutheran Church, rural Seville, for trucking to the railroad in Detroit and then on to LWR Headquarters in New Windsor, Maryland for processing and preparation to be shipped wherever needed throughout the world. Sunday, 15 is CAMP MOWANA S FALL FESTIVAL, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Also on 15, PLEASANT VALLEY LUTHERAN CHURCH, rural Lucas, will celebrate their 150 th anniversary at 2:00 p.m. Saturday morning, November 4 is BISHOP ALLENDE S FALL GATHERING at Grace Lutheran Church, Wadsworth. Several members of each congregation in the Synod are encouraged to attend. This is our opportunity to hear what is going on in the Synod and Churchwide, to ask questions, and attend workshops on Sharing and the Word (social media and technology); Relationships and the Word (talking about Jesus with people who do not know him); and Seeing and the Word (seeing the Word and work of Jesus active in our communities). I have enjoyed my time among you as Interim Pastor. I thank everyone for helping to keep things together while Pastor Karen has been away. May our Lord, Jesus Christ continue to bless us as we seek to be a blessing to each other and to our community. Pastor Wanamaker THEO S BAPTISM! Pastor Karen and Pastor Randy would like to announce that Theo's baptism will be Sunday, Oct. 8th at Christ the Redeemer at 9201 Brecksville Rd in Brecksville. Service begins at 10:30 am. All are welcome! With two pastors in the family, there was no perfect solution as to when/where to hold Theo's baptism. The date was chosen by Bishop Eaton, whom we are excited to say is performing the baptism. As Pastor Karen is on maternity leave, having the baptism at CRLC makes the most sense logistically. Theo is lucky to have the opportunity to be a part of two wonderful congregations, but unfortunately, we can't be in two places at once. Theo will have plenty of opportunities in the future to celebrate with his Peace family. We welcome your prayers and your presence if you are able!

Father Goose helps Peace Actors tell Prince Cinders, The Frog Prince continued, Honestly, Red Riding Hood was Rotten and a tale told by the seven dwarves Snow White was so Forgetful. Fourteen stories will provide enough corn to keep us laughing through the winter. Tickets are for sale after Church Services in the Narthex or during the week from Tabatha in the church office.
