Please pray for the students and their families to grow in their awareness of Christ s Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist. May we ponder on this great gift ourselves before we receive Our Lord! May the light of Christ bring light to our deepest darkness this Easter Season! Alleluia! Michelle Solomon, Director of Religious Ed. CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH MINISTRY Hunger for Justice SERVICE & CELEBRATION: DYING AND RISING! This Holy Saturday our youth who attended the Hunger for Justice spent the day in service to our brothers and sisters in need. They traveled into Boston in the morning to hand out food, socks, hats and gloves and talk with the homeless at Boston Common and Pine Street Inn. After serving in Boston they returned to the North Shore and, splitting up into groups, worked at over twenty soup kitchens, homeless shelters, thrift shops, and parishes doing a variety of needed jobs. The retreat concluded with the Easter Vigil followed by the Resurrection Party. Through their sacrifices and minor discomforts the youth were able to die to themselves and then rise with Christ these holy days. It was a powerful and transforming retreat and a beautiful way to spend the holiest days of the year. A heartfelt THANK YOU for all those who donated items from the cross, but most especially thank you for all your prayers and support-please know that you were lifted up in our prayers during the retreat as well! HE IS RISEN! Alleluia! 6 SIGNINGS Do we ever realize that there are consequences whenever we commit sins? Apparently not, because we tend to overlook the impact of these consequences and go about our own business. We keep on pretending like nothing has happened. I recall watching a powerful. thought-provoking independent film called "The Place Beyond The Pines" which portrayed two intertwining stories about how the sins of two fathers have carried on with them and influenced their future generations. One father is a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer who abandons his son and girlfriend and the other father is a power-hungry, ladder-climbing careerist who has neglected his family, especially his son so much. Their ambitious, self-centered motivations have clearly influenced their sons because the fatherson bond has been lost or missing. Hence, the sons have not been given much-needed fatherly guidance. What happens to their lives? Without any strong family structure and human connection, they feel left out and have become outlaws. The First Letter of St. John emphasizes that following God's commandments by loving God and our neighbors is the foundation of living a good, well-balanced life once we realize that these commandments do not bring us burdens. Indeed, when we do not involve God in our daily lives, things in our lives can really become very burdensome, like that of two fathers and their sons in the film. Even Jesus makes clear in the Gospel today that when we forgive the sins of others, we are then free because all has been forgiven and when we do not forgive their sins, then these sins continue to be possessed within ourselves. Clearly we can really notice with our eyes of faith that sins that have not been forgiven really impact the way we live in our daily lives even if we may not know it or notice. In the spirit of Easter, let us all remain free by showing our genuine love to God and our neighbor, the greatest commandment of all, because we want to live eternally by sharing Christ's Resurrection!
