The leaf s are changing and the temperatures are getting a little cooler. Another thought that comes with October is that of the festival of the Reformation. That time where we remember God using His servant Martin Luther to wake up the church of the day to the fact that they had strayed from their Scriptural roots. Luther never wanted to split the church. His desire was to simply reform the Bride of Christ to its foundation on the Solid Rock, that is Jesus Christ. The Reformation was about the freedom of the Gospel. That what Christ did at the Cross was done for the entire world, for FREE! To that end I d like to share with you some words of wisdom, shared with me by a fellow pastor as he talked about the freedom of the Gospel with the people that God had entrusted to his care. The Master s Card. Let me tell you about it. There are no finance charges, no payments due. My bill has already been covered it s a pre-paid deal. Mark Sunday, October 7 on your calendars and make plans to come to the Ice Cream social. Always a great time!! Things continue to move quickly at Son Shine. We have had our first chapel with Pastor, and our first fire drill. In October, we look forward to the firemen coming to visit. Always an exciting time. For our offering in October, we will be filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. If you would like to fill a shoebox, there are empty boxes available on the table in the preschool wing. Feel free to take one with the instructions and fill it up. Blood Drive Monday, October 8 3:00-6:00pm Any question please contact Libby or To schedule an appointment go online at Question: What is the farthest that we ve sent something into space And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven (Mark 13:27) At this stage, we have sent something that has finally reached the outer edges of our solar system and is about to enter interstellar space. It is called the Voyager 1 spacecraft. Launched in September of 1977 with the goal of studying the outer solar system, it routinely sends back data and pictures. This is easily the farthest that man has ever sent anything into space and it is still working today! Voyager 1 was supposed to study Jupiter, Saturn, and their associated moons, rings, and so on. When that was accomplished in November of 1980, the probe simply continued to travel to space. Voyager 1 is not the only space probe that has been sent to the outer reaches of the solar system. In total, there have been four probes. Voyager 2 was the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune, and it is still going, though no as fast as Voyager 1. Man has always been fascinated with finding out what is beyond, and yet so often we miss that the Creator Himself became a man (Jesus Christ) and came to seek us out. Let s not forget that. 4 Bowls for Missions There is an effort underway to re-purpose some of the big Ash trees we lost in front of our church. The plan is to make several (very usable) bowls from them and offer these to our congregation for use as wedding / Christmas / just because gifts, or to have a little memento of our church to use in your own home. The Bowls should be available around October and will range in size from very large to small. The bowls will be available in the church somewhere for you to look over and will have a tag that will give the usual price for them if sold in a shop. Should you be interested in taking one, you can give a donation to the church office which will be used 100% for missions (the elders decided on Take Away Hunger as the designated mission). The price on the bowls will only be for you to have an idea of their real value what you donate is completely up to you. The thought was that you more than likely budget some money each year to give to missions and this should not change, but in addition to that, you can get a usable item in exchange for some extra giving, or offset the cost of purchasing another gift for someone and have the money go to help others! The bowls will not be engraved when you see them, but there will be an example of what will be engraved on the foot of the bowl if you wish this to be done for you (at no charge). You can just sign your name on the card in the bowl so we know you want it, and those selected will get engraved with Faith Lutheran A family in Christ, Ash, and a serial number on the bottom of the bowl. 5 Another year has come and gone. All the hard work, time, sweat, sore backs and aching muscles are behind us. On behalf of the Old Threshers Committee I would like to thank each and every one of you! It takes all of us to accomplish this huge undertaking and we could not do it without you. We had a good year and I look forward the final numbers in the coming weeks, but let s not lose sight of why we do this. It s for the glory of God! We share our blessings with so many others and in the process we spread the saving Gospel of Christ. That is what it is all about! Thanks to everyone at Faith and to our friends at St Paul in Wapello. To God be the Glory. This month the ladies with going and visiting the shut ins Hostess will be Sara Scudder. Remember all ladies are part of LWML and are welcome to join us.
