And I have made promises that I will fulfill. Down-and-outers sit at God s table and eat their fill. Everyone on the hunt for God is here, praising God. Future generations will be told about the Lord, They will proclaim God s deliverance to a people yet unborn. Even as we experience your generosity of grace, we judge others harshly with little grace shown. 3 The Sacrament of Baptism for Jacob Thomas Green Son of Natalie and Keith Green October 14, 2018 Words of Preparation Hear the words of our Lord Jesus Christ: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. In baptism, we are graced with a new beginning. Baptism is a sign and seal of God s covenant of grace still with us today. In baptism we are engrafted into the family of God. It is a relationship that endures for a lifetime and beyond. In baptism we are marked as Christ s own; it is a visible sign of God s continuing faithfulness and proclamation of our intention to dwell in covenant with God and one another. Let us remember with joy our own baptism as we celebrate this sacrament. Presentation of Jacob Thomas Green Elder Marissa Glasschroeder: On behalf of this congregation and its Session, we present Jacob Thomas Green to receive the Sacrament of Baptism. Natalie and Keith, do you desire that Jacob be baptized? Questions for the Congregation In receiving this child of God, do we as members of the body of Christ, on behalf of the church universal, promise to guide and teach Jacob so that one day he may confess Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior? Do we promise to nurture him with love and prayer and encourage him to know and follow Christ and be a faithful member of Christ s church? Questions for the Parents Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior? Elder Marissa Glasschroeder: We have just received Jacob into the one holy catholic and apostolic church through baptism. God has reaffirmed the covenant made to Abraham and made to us in baptism. Youth Worship Bellringer Orientation: New Ringers Welcome! As we gather each Sunday morning, a member of the St. Andrew Youth invites us to focus our hearts and minds on worship by ringing a handbell three times. We are very grateful to our youth ringers for this meaningful service! We invite new volunteers from grades 6 through high school, as well as adult volunteers, to join the group. No previous bellringing experience is needed: if you can shake hands, you can ring the bell! A 15-minute orientation for both returning and new ringers will be held in the sanctuary after the worship service on Sunday, October 21. The congregation donated $135 and Circle #1 gave $71. With our donation of 103 pounds of food and a total monetary donation of $206, we provided 92 people with food for a week. So far this year, St. Andrew has fed 496 people for a week. Remember, just $2.29 or 54 pounds of food feeds one person for a week. Keep up the good work everyone! Food Fact #1: Fresh food items are alluring, but they may stay good for only a day or two, while the frozen versions can last pretty much indefinitely. Plus, freezing has improved over the past few decades so frozen foods may be better quality than fresh foods. Food Fact #2: Store yogurt, eggs, and milk on an interior shelf, not in the door where temps are the highest. Food Fact #3: Give milk the sniff test! Sell by dates are not based on any safety test. Most are just manufacturers suggestions for quality. If you pitch things whose dates say they ve just expired, you re probably throwing away foods that are perfectly fine to eat. October Give-a-Meal $2.29 A monetary donation of $2.29 feeds a person in need for a week. Donations can be made in your weekly offering, online, or in the church office. Please write Give-a-Meal-a-Month on the envelope or check. Children s Chapel During the worship service, children ages three years through kindergarten go to chapel immediately following the Children s Sermon. The Ten Best Ways Jessie and Will Hooper Godly Play seeks to tell the stories of the faith so that children hear and remember these stories and become engaged in them. It also provides a place and opportunities for children to begin exploring the purpose and meaning of worship.
