If you are interested in becoming a member of this congregation, we will gladly provide you with that information. Meeting of the Congregation Sunday, September 14 Call. The Session calls a meeting of the congregation for Sunday, September 14, 2014, immediately following the 10:50 A.M. worship service for the purpose of revising the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Bylaws, Article III., A., 1. The proposed change would revise the current wording from There shall be twenty-one elders divided into three equal classes... to There shall be fifteen elders divided into three equal classes.... Reason for the Proposed Change. It has become increasingly challenging the past several years for the Church Officer Nominating Committee to find a slate of officers who are willing to serve three-year terms of office. As a result, the Session formed an ad hoc committee to study the size and functions of the Session and Diaconate. At its August 20th meeting, the Session heard the committee s report and voted to approve the committee s recommendation to reduce the size of the Session from 21 to 15 elders. If the congregation agrees, the change will be implemented beginning in January with the installation of five elders in the Class of 2017 instead of seven. This would continue through the Class of 2019 when the size of the Session would become fifteen. The Session s ad hoc committee found that most churches, even thoses larger than ours, such as First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, have a Session that numbers less than 21. Having a smaller group would give each elder more opportunity to take part in discussions and voice his or her opinions. Although the committee recommended reducing the size of the Session they recommended keeping the size of the Diaconate at 21, based on the nature of their responsibilities and activities. They also recommended expanding the number of the members involved with ministry teams and committees of the church, modeling the charge in 1 Peter, 4:10, As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God s varied grace. They believe this will achieve a more informed and effective decision-making team while increasing congregational involvement in areas of service overall. Diaper Drive Community Outreach Committee calls on congregation members to help with the annual St. Andrew Diaper Drive. From September through October, the committee asks for donations of infant and toddler diapers or pull-up adult diapers. The diapers will benefit both Interfaith Ministries diaper program and also some Our Daily Bread clients. Diapers should be placed in the 2 collections boxes by the soda machines outside of Fellowship Hall. Please Don t Be Invisible! Wear Your Name Tag! During this time of transition, there are many reasons it would be helpful if everyone made a new commitment to wear their name tag. Not only new pastors or personnel would like to know our names and put them together with our faces, but so would visitors! Name tags help new members feel more at home and a part of the church community, and name tags make it easier for visitors to be identified and feel more comfortable. So please brush aside your aversions to wearing name tags, and help us to be more welcoming to all! The Membership Committee thanks everyone for the many smiles, hospitality, and name tags! Hand Bell Open House Have you ever wanted to learn more about hand bells and how to ring? If so, please come and meet our bell choir in the adult choir room on Wednesday, 9/17, from 6:20 to 7:30pm. Try ringing a bell or two, learn some basic techniques and explore whether you might enjoy ringing with the choir. Ladies Tuesday Afternoon Study Begins The Ladies Afternoon Study Group will begin one week later than initially planned.
