Filipino Apostolate Mass The Filipino Apostolate Malden Chapter celebrates Mass in this Parish every second Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM. Following the Mass, there is a pot luck lunch in the hall. Parish Pastoral Council The Parish Pastoral Council will meet on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the conference room. Coffee and Donut Social There will be a Coffee and Donut Social after all the masses on Sunday, January 11th in the Parish Hall. Hope to see you there! Bottle and Can Drive St. Joseph Parish Cub Pack #609 will have their Bottle and Can Drive on Saturday, January 10, 2015 before and after the 4:00 PM Mass and Sunday, January 11, 2015 after the 7:30 AM Mass and before and after all other Masses until 11:30 AM. Please leave the bags in the usual area; we will take them downstairs. Christmas Day Masses Thursday, December 25 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM Christmas Peace and Joy to All For Fr. John, Fr. Brian, Fr. Bakker, our parish staff and myself, I extend Christmas greetings of peace, joy and happiness to all in the St. Joseph Parish community. The Christmas season is such a special time of the year- a time when we are deeply aware of God s presence among us and love for us. It is a time in which we reach out to others and celebrate the many gifts that God has showered upon us. The greatest gift we have received is Jesus who is the living sign of God s intimate hope for all of humanity. Let us share that love and the good news of Christ with each other and with the world. As we celebrate the message of Christmas, let us all come to the Lord knowing that we are cherished and blessed in so many ways. So let all of us the young and adults enthusiastically share in the joy of Christmas and bring good will and peace into the lives of all we encounter. May God bless all of us in this most joyous of seasons and in all of the seasons yet to arrive. Merry Christmas! Fr. 3 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT Community Blood Drive St. Joseph Parish Community Blood Drive will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM in the parish hall. At the Blood Drive on November 17, 2014, there were 29 donors; and 29 units were collected. LIFT Worship Night Join us for LIFT - an exciting monthly worship event which includes vibrant praise and worship music, dynamic and challenging Catholic speakers and Eucharistic Adoration. Our events are FREE to attend and open to ALL AGES. Be with us on Tuesday, January 13th. The evening runs from 7:00 9:00 PM at Holy Family Church, 9 Sparhawk Street, Amesbury, MA. Ecumenical Epiphany Choir Festival The St. Joseph, Medford/St. Francis, Medford Collaborative music ministries Ecumenical Epiphany Choir Festival will be held on Sunday, January 4th, at 2:00 PM, at St. Francis Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford. The Adult, Young Adult and Youth Choirs will be performing, as well as neighboring choirs, accompanied by organ/piano and with instrumental solos. There will be light refreshments in the parish center following the program. A tale of the candy cane The account of the candy cane s origins circulates every Christmas season and is more likely a fun story than historical fact. No matter; tales often contain truth. This tasty treat can convey important elements of our Christian faith. The stripes remind us of the heart of Christmas, our Savior, Jesus: white for his purity; red for his blood shed on the cross. The candy cane resembles the curved staffs of the shepherds the first people to visit the Christ-Child and worship at the manger. And when the cane is turned upside down, it becomes a letter J, for Jesus. Indeed, Jesus turns our lives upside down and inverts our presumptions: A poor baby born in a stable becomes King of kings and Lord of lords; enemies aren t for hating but loving; blessings aren t for hoarding but sharing; the world works for war, but Jesus calls us to live in peace; giving is better than receiving; sinners are made saints; and death is conquered as God grants us eternal life
