Filipino Apostolate Mass The Filipino Apostolate Malden Chapter celebrates Mass in this Parish every second Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM. Following the Mass, there is a pot luck lunch in the hall. Community Blood Drive St. Joseph Parish Community Blood Drive will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM in the parish hall. At the Blood Drive on March 14th, there were 42 donors; and 42 units were collected. Bottle and Can Drive St. Joseph Parish Cub Pack #609 will have their Bottle and Can Drive on the weekend of Saturday, June 4th before and after the 4:00 PM Mass and Sunday, June 5th after the 7:30 AM Mass and before and after all other Masses until 11:30 AM. Please leave the bags in the usual area; we will take them downstairs. Parish Pastoral Council The Parish Pastoral Council will meet on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the conference room. LIFT Worship Night Join us for LIFT an exciting new monthly worship event which includes vibrant praise and worship music, dynamic, challenging speakers and Eucharistic Adoration. LIFT is for all ages from young adults to adults to teens to entire families. Join us Tuesday, May 17th as we welcome guest Speaker: TBA. Please call the office at, , with any questions. St. Joseph Parish BBQ Greetings all! St Joseph Parish is planning a BBQ for June 4 th. In the event of rain the BBQ will be held indoors; and we would like you to be there. We hope that you will join us at the 4pm Mass and then continue outside to the BBQ. We will be selling tickets after all the Masses in May. Prices will be $6 a plate for adults, and $4 a plate for children (ages 12 and under). Tickets purchased at the BBQ will be $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children. Food will consist of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, French fries, chips, waters and soda. So please purchase a ticket and join us for an evening of Mass, food, and fun. Thanks, Buffy and Kathy Julia E. Vanella High School Scholarship Fund The Julia E. Vanella High School Scholarship Fund is running low this year. Any contributions to the High School, in Julia's name, would be greatly appreciated. Julia was a 16 year old parishioner who was killed January 11, 2014 in a tragic car accident. If you are able to help, please mail donations to Malden High School, 77 Salem Street, Malden, MA 02148, c/o Julia Vanella Scholarship Fund. Annual Parish Baby Shower Court Maplewood C.D.A. is sponsoring its Annual Parish-wide Baby Shower from Saturday, May 7th to Sunday, June 5th. All donations of NEW and UNWRAPPED baby clothing will be donated to A Woman's Concern in Revere. A Woman's Concern helps young mothers through a most difficult time in their lives. With medical and moral support for each of them and their babies free of charge, young women, finding themselves pregnant and alone, learn the true meaning of Christian love. A Woman's Concern has been the recipient of our donations for over 10 years and has called St. Joseph Parish "a God-send" because of our continued support. Any donation of new clothing will be gratefully accepted. Coffee and Donut Social There will be a coffee and donut social after all the Masses on Sunday, June 12th sponsored by our Youth Ministry group. Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir Annual Concert The Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir will be hosting the 21st annual concert on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 4:30 pm. The event will take place at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 517 Blue Hill Avenue, Grove Hall, MA. For more information, please contact The Office for Black Catholic Ministries: Ldesroses@rcab.org. Empower Boston Empower is Youth Ministry training at its best! It will be held on Saturday, September 10 th, 2016 at St. Francis Parish, Medford Catholic Collaborative. The day will include training for small group facilitation, relational ministry, and middle school ministry; as well as activities for high school ministry, team planning, Mass, lunch and the best praise & worship music. This event is sponsored by the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and Parish Support, and Life Teen. Registration opens May 1 st with a discount for early registrations. All priests attend for free!

3 Foster Grandparent Program: The Catholic Charities Foster Grandparent Program is seeking retired men and women aged 55 and above to volunteer 15 hours per week assisting children from their communities in classroom settings. Training is provided, as well as a tax-free stipend and travel reimbursement. For more information, please contact Kathleen Keenan at , ext th Annual Benefit Concert The 6th annual benefit concert for the Dominican Republic is being held in the school gym of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 5 Margin Street, Peabody, on Saturday, May 21 th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. St. John the Baptist & St. Thomas parishes are cosponsoring this event. All proceeds from this concert will benefit the poor of our sister parish community Santa Lucia, as well as children in the orphanage Casa Hogar Divino Niño Jesus in Salcedo. Latin music will be performed by Grupo Esperanza and Jose R. Diaz. You will be entertained in contemporary music by K. Leigh Regan and Raisa Ferraras. Light rock will be played by the band Protest. Praise and worship song will be performed by Mike, Anne, Renildo & Joe, Carmelite Sisters Kathy & Christine, and Cynthia Arsenault & the St. John s Choir. This premier charity event is held to benefit the educational program for the seminarians. Tuition covers only half the cost of educating a seminarian and the proceeds from this tournament will help bridge the gap and keep the cost of educating them affordable. The $250 player entry includes lunch at the Club, 18 holes of golf with cart, and door prizes; followed by a social hour, silent auction and dinner at the seminary for each golfer and a guest. Bethany Health Care Center Golf Tournament June 13th You are invited to join the Bethany Health Care Center, Framingham s 10 th Annual Golf tournament to be held on June 13, 2016 at the Charter Oak Country Club, in Hudson MA. Tee time is at 9:00 AM and the tournament concludes with a 3:00 PM awards ceremony, reception and buffet. Former NFL linebacker Pete Cronan will be returning once again as the emcee and auctioneer. Proceeds from this year s golf tournament will benefit Bethany s new Activities Center that will allow residents to more fully enjoy the seasonal transitions and a wide variety of cultural, entertainment, educational and outdoor activities. Jarvis ( ) loved her mother dearly. It was Miss Jarvis who first suggested a national day to honor all mothers. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Anna gave a carnation, her mother s favorite flower, to each person in attendance. Within a few years, the idea to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother s Day was soon observed annually in many large cities of the United States. On May 9, 1914, by an act of congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday of May as Mother s Day. He established the day as a time for public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country. By then, it had become customary to wear white carnations in honor of departed mothers and red carnations to honor the living. The custom continues to this day.
