2 Neighbors Neighbors are a great thing. Especially good ones!!! I had a neighbor tell me one time, What good s a neighbor if you can t use em once in a while. Now he was saying this in a way that was down home, and in a way that was positive. But with further inspection, the quote takes on a loud ring of truth. First we need each other, and secondly, we fool only ourselves if we think we don t need each other. God made things that way. Sharing life together is God s idea. He knows all the challenges of living near others and He still calls us to Love your neighbor as yourself. In fact He says that this is the second greatest thing we can do here on Earth. So in a day and age where we find justification for our actions so easily. Let s consider that Jesus actually meant our literal neighbors.the people that live next door to us. How could you up your game, so to speak? How have you loved your neighbors lately? Are you following the Second Greatest Commandment? And before you rationalize this away. Love your neighbor as yourself. Check this out Mathew 22:39 This Commandment is found in The Bible at least 11 times. In the Books James, Galatians, Romans, Matthew, Luke, Mark, and Leviticus..That s right, Leviticus!!! Here at SMC we have a series of 3 messages planned around this 2 nd greatest commandment this month. DISCOVER CREATIVE WAYS TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS AND TO MOTIVATE THEM TOWARD ACTS OF COMPASSION, DOING BEAUTIFUL WORKS AS EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE. THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO PULL AWAY AND NEGLECT MEETING TOGETHER, AS SOME HAVE FORMED THE HABIT OF DOING, BECAUSE WE NEED EACH OTHER! IN FACT, WE SHOULD COME TOGETHER EVEN MORE FREQUENTLY, EAGER TO ENCOURAGE AND URGE EACH OTHER ONWARD AS WE ANTICIPATE THAT DAY DAWNING. (HEBREWS 10:23-25 THE PASSION TRANSLATION) It is my prayer that we all continue to cling tightly to that hope within us and that we will be eager to encourage and challenge each other to be what God calls us to be. I praise God for the encouragement I have received from my brothers and sisters at Stumptown and pray that I can be an encouragement to each of you as well. 5 PARISH RESOURCE CENTER - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT OPENING (FT) - The Administrative Assistant directly supports the Executive Director and the PRC staff and consultants. In partnership with the Executive Director and other PRC staff, the Administrative Assistant provides dedicated administrative support and customer service for building and maintaining relationships with PRC member churches and constituents, PRC events and workshops, and responding to phone calls, s, and visits from PRC members and the public. Under direction of the Executive Director, the Administrative Assistant also offers general administrative support to PRC staff as well as projectdriven specialized support to the PRC development work as needed. Forest Hills Mennonite Church (an MCUSA congregation, Leola, PA) seeks an Administrator. Responsibilities include office management, congregational and community communications, assisting pastoral staff, light bookkeeping, facilities oversight, and acting as office receptionist. Successful candidates will be internally motivated and possess strong organization, communication, hospitality, and interpersonal skills and a faith commitment consistent with the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective. MCC East Coast Material Resources Center Opportunities (contact EastCoastMRC@mcc.org or with questions) Grocery boxes for your neighbors - MCC is collecting grocery items from now until Christmas to distribute to vulnerable families in cities like Reading, Philadelphia and New York City. These groceries are meant to supplement what people already have. Fill a bag or box with the following grocery items and bring them to the MCC Material Resources Center (517 West Trout Run Rd., Ephrata, PA 17522): vegetable oil (32 oz.) pasta (2 lbs.) raisins (1 lb.) white rice (32 oz.) 2 cans meat (chicken or tuna) (12 oz.) 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz.) 2 cans fruit (14-20 oz.) 2 cans vegetables (14-16 oz.) 2 cans beans (15.5 oz.) 1 box of cereal (14-18 oz.) peanut butter (28 oz.) Donate comforters/blankets - Cooler weather is here. MCC is in urgent need of comforters so that we may respond to the needs of displaced people around the world. Please consider making comforters or purchasing blankets (twin or full size).
