MAY 2018 MAY WRSIP SRVICS May 6 th Pastor Lee will be starting a three part sermon series called Praying Like Jesus on this first Sunday of the month. his Sunday s message is called Jesus Prays for imself and John 17:1-5 will be the Scripture passage. May 13 th May 20 th May 27 th Jesus Prays for is Disciples is the second sermon in the series. Pastor Lee will focus his message on John 17:6-19. appy Mother s Day! John 17:20-26 will be the Scripture passage for the third and final message of the series. he sermon for this Sunday will be called: Jesus Prays for Us. Pastor Lee and Linda will be taking a week of vacation so we will be led by Rev. Joe Fontana. his Sunday is rinity Sunday as well as observing Memorial Day. Rev. Joe s message will be called hanks for verything and will be based on Psalm 111 and Luke 17:11-19.

3 Pastor-Lee houghts Wow! Can you believe we are already to the month of May? oly Week including Palm Sunday, Maundy hursday, Good Friday, and Resurrection of the Lord Sunday (aster) is behind us. We are now in the season of the church year in which we continue to focus on Jesus Resurrection but also celebrate the Lord s Ascension and Pentecost. During this month we will continue to have our usual meetings. he Commissions meet on the 6 th ; Deacons on the 13 th ; Session on the 20 th ; and the Daytimers will have their monthly potluck and meeting on the 17 th. Speaking of meetings, I would like to encourage all to become involved in our church s Commissions. hese very important committees meet during the Coffee Fellowship on the first Sunday of the month. We want everyone to contribute to help our church grow. You do N need to be a member of our church to participate. Your participation will be greatly appreciated. he Commissions are Super-Committees each made up of several of the Session Committees. hey are: Plant Commission People Commission Program Commission Stewardship & Finance Membership & vangelism Christian ducation Building & perations Mission Worship Personnel Nominating If you have any questions about any of these Commissions, feel free to talk to me or any of our lders. hey would love to have you contribute. God bless, Pastor Lee CRISIAN DUCAIN NWS All kids are welcome to our regular Sunday School sessions which are held every Sunday morning following the Children s Message during the regular church service. Kids and youth learn about God, do activities and learn about their relationship with Jesus Christ. he nursery is available from 9:00 am until the end of the church service. 3 Adult Sunday School will be studying Luke 15 using the book the Cross and the Prodigal. he study will last until June 17th, then resume in July with the second half of the book. he Study takes a look at the three parables in Luke 15 from the perspective of the Middle ast peasant. he author, Kenneth. Bailey, presents the parable of the Prodigal, powerfully demonstrating its essentially Christian message, in the unfolding of the prodigal son, Bailey demonstrates there is no forgiveness without great cost to the forgiver. his study can only augment a person s personal journey through the Bible.

Study books are in the Women s Bible Study slot in the church s mail room. Some people have never done the coffee fellowship before, or might not have done it in a while. ere are some Dos and Don ts of coffee fellowship service. D 1. Bring food and set up in Fireside Room Nothing extravagant is necessary. ry to bring something for someone with a sweet tooth and something for one with no sweet tooth! In other words, try fruit and cheese and crackers, or cookies and a veggie tray, or chips with hummus and a special dessert. Finger foods are encouraged. 2. Clean up after coffee hour. his includes: Clean up remaining food and take home washing out coffee pot, dumping tea water, if tablecloths and dishcloths are soiled take them home, wash and bring back next week, vacuum or sweep, take out garbage from fellowship room and kitchen. DN' 1. Purchase plates, utensils and napkins as they are provided by the church. 2. Make coffee and hot water for tea. It will already be set up for you in the Fireside Room. 4

5 WDNSDAY NIG BIBL SUDY CNINUS he Wednesday vening Adult Bible Study continues to meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room led by Pastor Lee. All are welcome to attend. We will continue our study on he Acts of the Apostles. You can pick up a study guide at the Welcome Center. If you have never come to the Wednesday vening Adult Bible Study we would love to have you join us. We look forward to seeing you there! Children from both churches scoured the grounds looking for hundreds of treasures. he FFAPC Praise Choir availed us with wonderful music and everyone enjoyed a bountiful coffee fellowship hour. We need you to sign up on the clipboards on the end of the hallway leading to the Sanctuary. here are multiple opportunities to be part of your church. Get involved in the life of the church in one of these ways. You can sign up to be a Lay Leader on Sunday morning it s not as hard as you might think! Check with Sally Buck, our lder in charge of Worship, for more information. for Coffee Fellowship (sign up with several friends if you like) our Coffee Fellowship is a great time to introduce ourselves to someone we don t know or touch base with our friends over something to eat. Note: n the 1 st Sunday of each month there will be a Pot Luck Coffee Fellowship in which all are encouraged to bring some item to share. It will be a great time to taste the various food items from cookies, fruit, vegetables, candies, or other treats prepared or brought by our congregation. Coffee and water will be provided. Finger foods are encouraged. Remember that you need to clean up whatever you brought as no one is assigned to clean up. to be a Greeter to welcome those who come to worship with us a friendly smile is a great way to be met on a Sunday morning. 6 Don't forget the Food Bank as we continue to feed the ever-increasing number of hungry folks in our community. You are invited to make a generous financial contribution to this ongoing and vital church ministry. Please bring them to church with you any time you visit! DACNS, CMMISSINS, AND SSSIN MINGS he Deacons, Commissions, and Session Meetings for this month have been announced. he Deacons will meet on Sunday, May 13 th during the Coffee Fellowship. he Commissions will meet during the Coffee Fellowship on May 6 th. his will make it easier for all that are interested in participating in the Commissions to do so since the meetings will be after our Sunday morning worship. SRAWBRRY CRPS Ingredients: 6 cups fresh strawberries 1/3 cup granulated sugar 1 cup cottage cheese 1 cup dairy sour cream 1/2 cup powdered (confectioner s) sugar, plus more for sprinkling 10 to 12 cooled crepes Instructions: ull and slice strawberries, add sugar and set aside. In a separate bowl, whip cottage cheese until smooth; stir in sour cream and powdered sugar. Fill crepes about two-thirds with creamy mixture and berries; fold over. op with remaining berries and any extra cream. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the ouse and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on hursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first hursday of May as a day of national prayer. very president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
