While recuperating from a deliberate poisoning, he wrote True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin. 29 APR (Tuesday): SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA, Doctor of the Church ( ) Deeply loving God from her youth, Catherine entered the Third Order of St. Dominic. She fought for the rights of the Roman Pontiff and promoted the renewal of religious life. He attended the Council of Nicea (325) and became a prolific polemicist against the Arians, who exiled him five times. He is one of the four great doctors of the Eastern Church. 03 MAY (Saturday): SAINTS PHILIP AND JAMES, Apostles Philip s request at the Last Supper, Lord, show us the Father, prompted Jesus to proclaim unequivocally that he and the Father are one. James, the son of Alphaeus, was a cousin of Jesus, and eventually presided over the church in Jerusalem. In his epistle, he encourages us to ask God for wisdom and faith. Ministry and Group News MOTHERS DAY CARDS Mother s Day is 11 May 2014! What could be a better gift to your mother, wife, mother-in-law, grandmother, godmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, daughter, or friend then to be remembered in a novena of Masses in observance of Mother s Day at the Church of the Nativity? Mother s Day Cards are available at the entrances to the church. Put the name(s) of your loved ones who are mothers, living or deceased, on the larger envelope and return it to the parish office or put it into the collection. Send the card to your favorite mother. These names will be placed on the altar during May so that they will be remembered in a novena of Masses that will be said in their honor. CARNIVAL CORNER Howdy folks! Over the next several weeks we ll be using this space to keep you posted on all the activities that are happening in support of the upcoming Nativity carnival. It s hard to believe, but this will be our 34th year of operation. It s been your tireless support that has made the Nativity Carnival the Bay Area s best entertainment value. These two Missions support dioceses across the country that lack the resources to provide basic pastoral ministry to their populations. ORDINATION TO THE SACRED ORDER OF THE DIACONATE On 04 May 2014, Dean Mbuzi, who is a seminarian who worked at Nativity last year, will be ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of Seattle by the Most Reverend Eusebio Elizando, M.Sp.S, Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle. Please keep Deacon Mbuzi in your prayers. DIVINE MERCY MISSION On Thursday, 08 May 2014 at 07:30 PM, Sister Confida, a nun with the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, will be speaking at Nativity Church. Her order is the congregation to which the Merciful Jesus called St. Faustina to in Poland. Her topic will be The Need for Divine Mercy in Today s World. Everyone is encouraged to attend this wonderful evening. As we look around us, we can see how the call to embrace the mercy of Jesus is the message for our times. So many are hurting; the solution is to give into the Divine Merciful Embrace. There will be a simple reception in the O Hare Center after the talk. 5 THE HOLY FATHER S PRAYER INTENTIONS From the Holy See Each month His Holiness asks for general and missionary prayer intentions. For May 2014, the Holy Father s prayer intentions are: Universal: Media in Service That the media may be instruments in the service of truth and peace. Missionary: Our Blessed Mother as Guide That Mary, Star of Evangelization, may guide the Church in proclaiming Christ to all nations. Canonization: 27 April 2014

6 Young Believers THE DIVINE MERCY The devotion to Jesus as the Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina, a Polish nun who wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God s mercy. Jesus looked at me and said, Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity. Secretary of My mercy, write, tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near. (Diary - Divine Mercy in My Soul, 965) I desire that priests proclaim this great mercy of Mine towards souls of sinners. Let the sinner not be afraid to approach Me. The flames of mercy are burning Me - clamoring to be spent; I want to pour them out upon these souls. Jesus complained to me in these words, Distrust on the part of souls is tearing at My insides. The distrust of a chosen soul causes Me even greater pain; despite My inexhaustible love for them they do not trust Me. Even My death is not enough for them. Woe to the soul that abuses these [gifts]. (Diary, 50)... encourage the souls with whom you come in contact to trust in My infinite mercy. Oh, how I love those souls who have complete confidence in Me I will do everything for them. (294) My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners. If only they could understand that I am the best of Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. For them I dwell in the tabernacle as King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart. Oh, how indifferent are souls to so much goodness, to so many proofs of love! My Heart drinks only of the ingratitude and forgetfulness of souls living in the world. They have time for everything, but they have no time to come to Me for graces. (367) During one of the adorations, Jesus promised me that: With souls that have recourse to My mercy and with those that glorify and proclaim My great mercy to others, I will deal according to My infinite mercy at the hour of their death. (379) There are souls who despise My graces as well as all the proofs of My love. They do not wish to hear My call, but proceed into the abyss of hell. The loss of these souls plunges Me into deadly sorrow. God though I am, I cannot help such a soul because it scorns Me; having a free will, it can spurn Me or love Me. You, who are the dispenser of My mercy, tell all the world about My goodness, and thus you will comfort My Heart. (580) The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My mercy. My mercy is confirmed in every work of My hands. He who trusts in My mercy will not perish, for all his affairs are Mine, and his enemies will be shattered at the base of My footstool. (723) [Let] the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy. My daughter, write about My mercy towards tormented souls. Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more graces than they ask. I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to My compassion, but on the contrary, I justify him in My unfathomable and inscrutable mercy. (1146) DID YOU KNOW?
