Mother Cabrini founded 67 institutions, including schools, hospitals, and orphanages in the United States, Europe and South America. 14 NOV (Wednesday): SAINT NICHOLAS TAVELIC AND COMPANIONS, Martyrs (d. 1391) As Franciscan custodians of the shrines in the Holy Land, Nicholas, Deodat, Peter of Narbonne and Stephen of Cuneo decided to attempt direct conversion of the Muslims. Built a hospital at the foot of the mountain on which her castle stood and tended to the sick herself. Once when she was taking food to the poor and sick, Prince Louis stopped her and looked under her mantle to see what she was carrying; the food had been miraculously changed to roses. We also have wishlist items you can purchase for clients of various organizations that assist the needy and homeless. We will need volunteers for the packing of food at Nativity School on 14 DEC 2018, and then the delivery of food and gifts on Saturday, 15 DEC This is a great way for everyone, especially families, to share with local families in need. The delivery date is also a great time to get involved with and get to know fellow parishioners. Bethlehem A.D. is a popular community event that has inspired the San Francisco Bay Area for twenty-six years with the authentic spirit and experience of Bethlehem A.D. will be held DEC 2018 from 06:00-09:30 PM in Redwood City. They are seeking adult and young actors, and workers to help build the sets. SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL WARMS SAN MATEO COUNTY S HOMELESS We all want to be warm on frosty nights and be dry when the rain pours. Think of how the homeless in San Mateo County feel on these cold nights. They are sleeping in their cars, on friends couches, under buildings or on a park bench. You can change this dire situation by donating to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul s Stay Warm Appeal. $25 will purchase one new sleeping bag rated for very cold weather to be distributed at one of SVdP s Homeless Help Centers in South San Francisco, San Mateo and Redwood City. FAITH FORMATION CLASSES Our classes will start up on Tuesday, 13 NOV The class will be some excellent talks by Bishop Robert Barron on the Eucharist. Please join us as Bishop Barron has some great insights into the most important practice of the Catholic faith, the Mass. Classes will go for three Tuesdays, 13, NOV The morning class goes from 09:30 AM-12:00 PM. The evening class (a repeat of the morning class) is from 07:00-08:30 PM. Both are held in the OHare Center. For questions, please call Deacon Dominick Peloso: 650/ NFP OVERVIEW CLASS Our next Natural Family Planning (NFP) class will be on Saturday, 17 NOV 2018 NFP, which is based on up-to-date science and is individualized for every couple. It works with the body s natural rhythm and increases respect for the couple s fertility as God designed it. NFP is an investment in your marriage which you don t want to be without. Couples who are to be married at Nativity are required to take this class. The class is conducted by Finola Glassmoyer, a registered nurse, who has been teaching NFP for many years. 6 THE WIDOW S MITE In today s gospel we hear about the widow who placed two small coins into the temple treasury. These coins were likely bronze lepta or prutot of Alexander Jan- naeus, the Hasmonean King of Judaea from 103 to 76 B.C. Although these coins were minted long before Christ s - tury A.D. Because the lepton and prutah were the lowest denomination coins that circulated in Jerusalem during Christ s lifetime, they are believed to be the coins referred to in the Biblical story of the poor widow. The lepton is the very smallest denomination and is probably the true widow s mite. In fact, the lepton is probably the lowest denomination coin ever struck by any nation in all of his- tory!
