2 Welcome We warmly welcome you to worship at The Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge. We pray that you will be encouraged in your journey of faith and drawn closer to God by your experience with us. A special welcome to visitors we're glad you're here! When our welcome pads are passed down the pew, we invite all worshippers to take a moment and sign their name, and for visitors to also include their address and phone number. Following both of our worship services, everyone is invited to gather for fellowship & coffee in Westminster Hall. Childcare and Sunday School Childcare for infants and toddlers is available in the nursery downstairs. Pagers are used to contact parents during the worship service when necessary. 9:00 am The Nursery is open for infants & toddlers through age 3. Please bring children ages 3 through grade 5 directly to their Sunday School classrooms. They may be picked up by their parents in their classrooms at 9:45 a.m. 10:15 am Children ages 3 through Grade 2 are invited to attend Children s Church in the Chapel after the Children s Anthem. Children in grades 3 and up are invited to remain in worship with their families. Calendar of Prayer Sessions and Congregations are invited to pray for the congregations, pastors, members and staff of the Presbytery of Elizabeth during This week, we pray for Hillside Millennium Presbyterian Church in Hillside. Amplification Headsets So that all may enjoy the worship service, sound amplification headsets are available from the ushers for those who need assistance with hearing. 6 Mother s Day Plant Sale: Today! The Senior High Fellowship and Youth & Young Adult Committee are hosting a Mother's Day Plant Sale after both services today! There are 3 beautiful plant options - perfect for adding a touch of Spring to your home, or as a special gift to the mother in your life. Depending on the weather, the sale will be outside by the Oak tree or in Westminster Hall. Come support the Senior High Workcamp! A special thank you to Michael & Amy Pellegrino for supplying us with such gorgeous plants!

8 Youth and Young Adult Ministries Senior High Fellowship (Grades 9-12) There is NO Senior High Fellowship tonight due to Mother s Day enjoy the time with your mom and family! Also, thank you to all who helped make this morning s Mother s Day Plant Sale a success. Looking ahead, next Sunday will be a Senior High BBQ. It will be a good time of food, fun, fellowship and serve as Jenna s last Senior High Fellowship. All high school students are welcome! Details to come. Middle School Fellowship (Gr. 6-8) - Wed., May 14, 6-7:30 p.m. Youth Center Come join this fun and vibrant group for a night of games, fellowship and a Bible story. We start the night with a sit-down pizza dinner, and proceed with a program geared to please our Middle School youth s thirst for fun as well as enrich their understanding of God and the Bible. We welcome new faces! Scholarships Offered Each year, the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Council offers scholarships for college juniors, seniors or graduate students. The scholarships are granted to aid education at an accredited college, university or seminary for individuals dedicated to working in helping professions, such as the pastorate, psychology, psychiatry, medicine, nursing, law and social work. Church members and Somerset Hills residents are eligible and can obtain applications in the Church House. Applications are due by May 15. Transition in Youth & Young Adult Ministries - Reception for Jenna Next Sunday! Jenna Meyers, our beloved Acting Director of Youth & Young Adults, will soon be leaving this post to start her graduate nursing studies at Columbia University. Many of you know Jenna from her lifelong membership in our church. It has been a true gift to see her shine in a staff leadership position this past year and our Youth Programs have thrived under her caring watch. Jenna is now being called to pursue her dream to become a nurse practitioner. Her schooling starts in June, with her last day in the office on May 21. We are filled with happiness for her as she starts this next phase of her life journey. Please pray for Jenna and for all BRPC youth & young adults and our faithful Youth Advisors in this time of transition. We are blessed with a healthy foundation! The Youth & Young Adult Committee will be hosting a reception for Jenna on Sunday, May 18 immediately following the 10:15 a.m. worship service in Westminster Hall. Please come and join together in fellowship to help celebrate Jenna s ministry and offer our heartfelt thanks for her many gifts and talents, as well as encouragement for what lays ahead at grad school.

9 Museum Tour Special Metropolitan Museum Tour Saturday, June 7 Sign Up Today! Here is a special trip for BRPC members and friends! Join us as our guide, Jean Sorabella takes us on a special tour of the Metropolitan Museum featuring the Greco Roman Collection. We will leave Basking Ridge by bus at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 and depart from New York at 3:00 p.m. The tour begins at 10:30 a.m. Cost of $65 includes transportation and museum tour/ticket. Children and Family Ministries Children and Family Ministry Leadership Appreciation Sunday May 18 Next Sunday, May 18, during the 10:15 a.m. worship service, we will be honoring our dedicated teachers, committee members, and volunteers for sharing their gifts of time and talent working with our children. This is a wonderful way to recognize how God has touched the lives of our children through the efforts of our volunteers. Please join us! Children and Family Ministries Planting Flowers Children and Family Ministries would like to wish all of our church family moms a very Happy Mother's Day! We know it is a busy day for many of you. We hope you will join us next Sunday, May 18 after the 10:15 a.m. service to plant flowers in the planters outside Westminster Hall. Flowers will be provided for mothers and children of all ages who would like to plant a flower together. Hope to see you there! Children s Musical Next Sunday, May 18 during the 10:15 a.m. Worship Service Bones - Ezekiel's Vision Come and join us for a very entertaining and spirit-filled Children's Musical based on the book of Ezekiel and the accounts of the valley of dry bones. 10 Opportunities to Give and Serve Charter Day is May 17 Are you going to Charter Day? Would you enjoy sitting at our table to greet and visit with people who stop by? It's a great way to extend hospitality and a warm welcome and let others know about our great church community here at BRPC! (And, you get to hand out free gifts!) Coffee and Fellowship Time Please consider volunteering to host a Fellowship time by taking a few moments from your week to give of yourself in service to your church family. Fellowship is vital to the life of the church, and for some, Sunday is the only opportunity they have to connect. To volunteer, please contact Nancy Sinni at or at hape2run@verizon.net. Mission Trip with Pluckemin Presbyterian, May Pluckemin Presbyterian is hosting a mission trip to Indian Wells Presbyterian in Arizona to restore their unoccupied manse, which can then be used or rented to help Indian Wells financially. Since 2007, Pluckemin has been working with several Navajo churches and have often partnered with Emmanuel Presbyterian in Thousand Oaks, CA and others. The group will likely be 2-3 people from Pluckemin, 2-3 people from Emmanuel Pres., and 1-2 Navajos from Tuba City Presbyterian. Most people in the group are highly skilled, but there is work for all levels. Please contact Tom Dodd for more information. Homeless Solutions Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38 During difficult times there is nothing better to keep our minds off of our own troubles then to reach out and help someone in need. Homeless Solutions provides shelter for 25 homeless men, 10 homeless women, 19 families and 20 Safe Haven guests. The mission council is seeking volunteers to prepare and serve dinner to these families at the shelter. Volunteers need to arrive at the shelter by 4 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Clean up is done by the shelter residents. All menus are pre-planned or you may prepare your favorite specialty. One volunteer is also needed to shop for the groceries and all receipts are submitted to the church for reimbursement. If you feel called to this very special ministry please contact Karen Cokewood at Dates: May 31, July 5, Sept. 6 and November 1. God s Co-op Pantry The food donation item for the month of May is 28 oz. Vegetable Oil. Please bring your donations to the church house. Thank you for your support!

11 Adult Education Small Group Study Mondays at 9:30 a.m. Please join us on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. to explore and discuss 5 Love Languages of Children. This easy-to-read book discusses the need for children to feel loved in their particular way to best succeed. If you and your children speak different love languages, your display of love might get lost in translation affecting your child s attitude, behavior and development. This is an opportunity for women to gather, share experiences and enjoy fellowship and refreshments. If you are interested in joining us for this 5-week study, please contact Jackie Obregon at jobregon@brpc.org. Books (and childcare!) will be provided. Artist of the Month The Artist of the Month Program This month, stop by the church house to see the display of the beautiful photographs of fine art photographer, Jann Slapin, our artist for the month of May. Jann s delicate photographs capture the beauty and intricacy found in nature, bridges and BRPC and its campus! If you, or someone you know, has a special gift to share be it painting, photography, needlework, sculpture, or any other artistic medium, please call the A rtist of the Month coordinator, Janet Bentley in the church office. Ridge Oak Part-Time Position Available 24 hr. week Occupancy Assistant for a HUD subsidized senior rental facility in Basking Ridge. Must be well organized, basic accounting skills, comfort with Microsoft Office suite and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to a senior population needed.
