1 The Presbyterian Church BASKING RIDGE, NEW JERSEY FOUNDED CIRCA 1717 April 6, 2014 Fifth Sunday in Lent Come to this sacred table, not because you must, but because you may; come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love our Lord Jesus Christ, and desire to be his true disciples; come not because you are strong, but because you are weak; not because you have any claim on the grace of God, but because in your frailty and sin you stand in constant need of his mercy and help; come, not to express an opinion, but to seek his presence and pray for his Spirit. ~Covenant Book of Worship, Order for Holy Communion

10 Scholarships Scholarships Offered Each year, the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Council offers scholarships for college juniors, seniors or graduate students. The scholarships are granted to aid education at an accredited college, university or seminary for individuals dedicated to working in helping professions, such as the pastorate, psychology, psychiatry, medicine, nursing, law and social work. Church members and Somerset Hills residents are eligible and can obtain applications in the Church House. Applications are due by May 15. Three BRPC SCEEP Scholarships Awarded! Several years ago, our Church established the SCEEP scholarship fund for the purpose of providing tuition aid to students who had participated in our SCEEP tutoring program. Kiyana Crawford and Rodney Pencile were in our SCEEP program 6 years ago. They are both in their second year of college Kiyana at Montclair State University, and Rodney at Rowan University. We have provided scholarship aid to both of them for the past 3 semesters. They also are recipients of our Verburg scholarships. Taquinza Berryman is a single mother with one son who was in our SCEEP program 9 years ago. She was out of school for a while, but is now back at Kean University supported by a SCEEP scholarship. She wrote to us and said: I will push forward and graduate! That was a promise that I made to myself!... I just wanted you to know that I was elated to see that you still believe in me! With the awarding of these three scholarships, the SCEEP scholarship reserve funds have been totally depleted. Believing in the importance of supporting the education of former SCEEP students, several members made personal contributions to support Kiyana, Rodney, and Taquinza. We hope others will feel called to make a contribution so that BRPC will be able to continue provide tuition support in the coming years. If you would like to participate in the rewarding experience of being a SCEEP tutor, or if you have questions about the SCEEP program or scholarship fund, please contact Chuck or Betsy Miller at
