5 Morning Praise & Potluck Lunch This month we begin our informal gathering around lunch following Morning Praise. This is a relaxed time to be part of our community and get to know each other better. It what is called, in church language, fellowship. Next month we will especially welcome newcomers and introduce the different ministries and their leaders. This month we welcome Damien back from Malawi and hear what excited him on his mission trip. All are invited! 6 Youth Group meets today at 2:00 p.m. The youth group will meet until 5 p.m. We will be tidying up the costume room and having a costume party, as well as watching the movie 'Courageous'. The movie is about four police officers who struggle with their faith. Bring snacks!" Men s Supper Club: The Unexamined Life is Not Worth Living so says Socrates. Gentlemen, do you have a hearty appetite for personal growth and introspection? If so, there is a new ministry coming to St. John's that's just right for you. Starting on Nov. 12 at 6:30 pm and the second Tuesday of each month thereafter, you are invited to join us for some supper and self-reflection. Each month we will tackle a full plate and an important piece of Christian writing. Discussions will be led by Drew and other members of SJYM. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the foyer and a nominal fee will be collected for the cost of the food. Questions? 7 Be a Christmas Angel An important agency in Flemingdon Park St. John s has been supporting is New Circles Community Services. In addition to their clothing bank that helps provide items to meet the needs of many newcomer and refugee families, New Circles wonderful Holiday Angel Adopt-a-Family program matches donor families with families in need and is now in its 10th year. They interview qualified clients to identify what they really need. The client then provides a prioritized wish list (e.g. dishes, towels, food vouchers, toys, etc.) so that donors can then shop for items. Clients understand that this is just a wish list and are grateful for any generosity. Some targeting of donors and clients is possible. For example, families with children of a similar age could be matched or a single person could buy gifts for another single person. Voices for Social Justice Members of SJYM are invited to learn about Voices for a Just Society, a non-partisan ecumenical group of 11 churches that learns about a variety of social policy issues. We are a nonpartisan group that believes many voices based on faith can effectively advocate solutions that will improve the lives of our most vulnerable fellow citizens. There is a 7-9 p.m. meeting this Wednesday, October 30th at St. Clement's Anglican Church (Duplex and Briar Hill) to organize this year's activities in the run-up to the next provincial election.
