1 October 2 20 th January 2015 Friends, Listening to Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir while working in the office is both uplifting and worshipful. It is the through the words of these inspired songs that God s touches my heart and challenges my spirit. One of the Songs they sing is, They will know we are Christians by our love. God s challenge in this song is to show the world we love Him by expressing His love. This is not a wishy-washy kind of love. It is a love which says.i will die for you. It is a love which forgives the many things we do wrong. It is a love which covers us by His Grace and urges us to be transformed, renewed, released and ready to bring others to Him. This is what Jesus has to say about this in John 13:35 The Message (MSG) Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples when they see the love you have for each other. May we all be challenged to love like Jesus then others will know we belong to Him Chris

Whilst I am confident that this is not a wide-spread issue, I need to make a direct request that higher levels of professionalism be demonstrated in the recording of voice mail messages on phones supplied by The Salvation Army. I have recently made calls to a number of mobiles and have been confronted with messages that neither represent the individual nor the organisation well. It needs to be remembered that first impressions count. Imagine the negative impact of a first time caller who rings with a significant issue and is discouraged by a lack of clarity or even worse, poor attempts at humour that are inappropriate in a work context. I do not wish to seem pedantic on this, however, I would request that each of us take a moment to check what message is currently recorded and, if necessary, make appropriate improvements. Thanks for your attention and action on this relatively small issue. Should need need assistance in the process of setting up your voice mail, Maurie Clarke Pearce will be able to assist you. Grace, Earle

4 Envoys Lloyd & Vicki Graham Rural Chaplains Wrap up December: We were not able to help on Christmas Day with the Men s Shed Luncheon in Bourke like we usually do. We believe it was very well attended and enjoyed by everyone. Well done to all those who organised it and worked on the day. The beginning of December was fairly hectic. The Hay Drive, Outback Christmas Mission (our last) and the dash to the coast for the birth of Blair, our new grandson were all exciting and tiring - all at the same time! The s, cards and letters of thanks and encouragement from the people we have shared our lives with this past year have been a great encouragement to us. Wrap up 2014: This past year could be summarised as drought and hardship for most graziers and property people. A severe lack of rain made conditions terrible for most in the Far West. The only good part of the drought was the huge amount of assistance raised and given to the Chaplains to distribute. This allowed us to be a greater help to people and allowed us to meet a large number of new contacts. Weather conditions seem to be slightly improving with the hope of rain. We are certainly praying for an end to the drought and a return to normal in the Far West. Moving forward 2015: Pastoral care visits and support for property people and communities will continue but this will be our final year in the Outback. Yes, Lloyd is retiring this year! Plans are underway for a return to fishing, canoeing and rallying, and spending time with children and grandchildren. Vicki has to continue working so we will discover later in the year what Ministry Role and where that might be. We leave that in God s hands. We hope and pray that He will be a source of blessing to each and every one of you in May His Joy, Peace and Power be with you! Love from Lloyd and Vicki. Moree Corps:- Helping hands gain employment FIFTEEN students from Moree have gained employment after participating in enhancement works at the Salvation Army grounds. The group were part of a construction course run by Fusion Training Solutions (FTS) and JobLink Plus. The works included the installation of disabled access ramps and the creation of a native garden. FTS trainer Mick Mather said five students secured employment with the other 10 to take up positions with the new Moree solar power plant starting later this month. The students said the best part of the course was the hands-on aspect rather than a classroom environment, he said. All work was carried out at The Salvation Army, making disabled access ramps and a native garden and seating for the elders. Other work carried out during the six-month Certificate II in Construction Pathways course included cement rendering, carpentry, door hanging and painting, much to the delight of Salvation Army Moree Corps Officers BJ and Rick Moulder. We are appreciative of the work done, and thankful for the attitudes of the young people, BJ said. The Salvation Army wouldn t exist without volunteers. The young people were terrific. Mr Mather said FTS had teamed with JobLink Plus which offers assistance to the long-term unemployed and those in need - to run the course. e
5 PERSONNEL REPORT 2015/1 PROMOTION TO GLORY - The sister of Captain Roy Wenham was Promoted to Glory recently in England at the age of 94 years. Roy and Doreen thank everyone for their messages and prayer support at this special time. Mr Eric James Wallis was Promoted to Glory with his family at his side on Saturday 3rd January 2015 after a battle with cancer. Eric was the husband of Denise, father to Marika Goddard (Moneycare Tamworth) and Lt. Dominic Wallis (Shoalhaven Corps). His Celebration of Life will be held at The Salvation Army Tamworth on Friday 9th January at 10am followed by a Graveside Committal at Tamworth Cemetery. The family would like to thank those who have supported them in prayer and sending messages. We are saddened to advise that Dawn Jurd was Promoted to Glory during her sleep on the 3 rd January 2015, aged 70 years. Dawn was the sister of Major Kelvin Alley (National Secretariat) and Colonel Robyn Maxwell (The Philippines Territory). Dawn was a Salvationist and was well known in the Salvation Army, especially in Sydney. Your prayer support would be appreciated by the family at this time of loss. The Service for the Celebration of Dawn s Life will be held at The Salvation Army Menai Corps (11 Pilliga Place Bangor) at 11.30am on Friday 9 th January 2015, which will be led by Commissioner Les Strong. This will be preceded by a Graveside Service at 10.00am for close family and friends at the Woronora Cemetery in Sutherland, which will be led by Colonel Wayne Maxwell. PRAYER REQUEST AND HEALTH UPDATE Ben Barber (14 years of age), the son of David (THQ Property Department) and Jodie, was in hospital prior to Christmas and diagnosed with Crohn s Disease. During the Christmas break Ben was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit but was transferred to the ward yesterday. Please pray that the internal bleeding will stop and the Lord will bring healing. Your prayer support for Ben, David, Jodie and Ben s brother would also be appreciated. THANK YOU "Thankyou to everyone who sent messages of condolence on the passing of Graham as well as the prayer support over the last couple of years from so many people. It has been a very difficult journey for our family but has been made a little easier by the fact that so many people have been lifting our names to God in prayer and have sent cards and called to encourage us. Graham had a great send off at the Thanksgiving Service when, at his request, two Salvation Army marches were played. It was a great celebration of Graham's life and we thank God for His faithfulness." RETIREMENT SERVICE Commissioner Lyn Pearce will be presenting the Retirement Certificates to Majors Daphne and Edwin Cox at their The Celebration of Service and Morning Tea at 9.30 am on Sunday 8 February 2015 at The Salvation Army Dulwich Hill. Please forward any messages to mr.justin.cox@hotmail.com and RSVP by Friday 23 January to daphne.cox@aue.salvationarmy.org or edwin.cox@aue.salvationarmy.org Daphne and Edwin trained in the Servants of Jesus Session from 1990 until their commissioning in January Each of them have served Jesus for 23 years and ministered in four corps throughout the Territory plus as divisional officers in the North New South Wales Divisional Headquarters as Business Secretary, Human Resources Officer, Women s Ministries, Seniors Program, Social Program and Community Care Ministries Secretary. 8 CLUB CHAPLAINS A fabulous ministry opportunity has become available within the 2 sports Clubs in Sydney and 1 in Tweed Heads in the role of Club Chaplain. There are thousands of people in our communities who visit clubs on a regular basis for many reasons. Unfortunately, for some people, engaging in club gambling facilities is a way of filling a gap in their life but rather than providing an enjoyable form of recreation, it can mean personal distress and destruction. The Salvation Army has been given an opportunity to minister to those people by being part of the club environment, finding those people and offering help through ways that can bring healing. You will need to have the right qualifications which are listed in the Job Description; you will need to wear identifiable Salvation Army clothing and you will need to know how to identify and reach people who need help but may not be asking for it. The potential for effective ministry is immense - the challenge is also immense. If you believe you are equipped for this ministry please - joyce.chege.resing@aue.salvationarmy.org for the Tweed Head's role OR shalini.vuyyuru@aue.salvationarmy.org for the Bankstown and Revesby positions.
