Youth trained and sent out to frontline mission 7. Significant increase of new soldiers and officers. Greetings Friends Over recent weeks I have, on a number of occasions, travelled up and down on the Motorway to Sydney for various meetings. This was no different last weekend for the Freedom Celebration! What a great God-glorifying time it was. I believe that General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox, along with our Territorial Leadership truly brought God s message of encouragement and challenge to our Territory as Commissioner James says, For such a time as this! I eagerly wait to see the outcomes of these times of blessing. I don t know about you, but I am not an overly confident driver in Sydney traffic and in fact it becomes a stressful time for me. I thought this time around I would be prepared for the stress and had planned to have some soothing CD s to help me get through the traffic pressures. You know, it worked especially when I heard these words of the past: At the moment of my weakness, When my need for power is plain, And my own strength is exhausted once again, Then my Lord has made provision for the day of my despair, And his precious Holy Spirit hears my prayer, my prayer, Then my Lord has made provision for the day of my despair, And his precious Holy Spirit hears my prayer. Ch. Holy Spirit, promised presence fall on me. Holy Spirit, make me all I long to be. Holy Spirit! Holy Spirit! Give your power to me, O Holy Spirit. Of course many will know the Song His Provision, but the words have spoken to my heart again. I was reminded that I have been given His Spirit and His Provision for living. And when you apply the 3 rd verse, the impact was made much clearer to me Nothing now can rob God s servant Of the peace that he bequeaths, Nothing takes away the strength his presence breathes. You know, when you think back to the day of Pentecost there was no way the disciples would have been able to fulfil the mission Jesus was about to give them on their own. They needed His presence and power! What a great reminder, but also what a great God we have to provide everything we need! Not just for one moment in time, but for our entire lives. Come Holy Spirit, promised presence fall on me - everyday! That is my prayer. Warren Parkinson Issue 31/11 September 2013
2 MAITLAND CITY CORPS 13OTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS (Report Major Ian Channell) GREET AND MEET THE GENERAL AT WEEKEND OF WELCOMES Maitland City Corps is celebrating 130 years of Salvation Army ministry and service in the Maitland area this year. Beginning with a Thanksgiving Weekend in March that incorporated the Harvest Festival and led by former corps officers, Captains Ray and Joy Lotty, celebrations continued through the Pleasant Sunday Afternoon lead by Major Shelley Soper. On the weekend of 24 th & 25 th August we focused on the past as corps members gathered for a formal dinner on the Saturday night and shared memories of East Maitland and Maitland City Corps. Sunday began with morning tea during which, the longest serving Soldier, Marjory Woods, and one of the newest Junior Soldiers, Henry McDonald, cut the anniversary cake. Worship commenced under the leadership of the corps' newly formed worship ensemble, Cornerstone. Major Ian Channell presented Long Service Awards to several Local Officers and Bandsmen, we accepted 2 Adherents and Enrolled 3 Senior Soldiers. The focus of the meeting moved to the corps' future as the congregation - young and old, Senior and Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Adherents and other believers - were invited to renew their Covenant with God. Many people signed cards of renewal, committing themselves anew to God and, for Soldiers and Adherents, to The Salvation Army. EMPLOYEE SERVICE RECOGNITION PRESENTATIONS Last Wednesday, 4 th September, a number of employees were recognised for their continuous service. Pictured below, left to right are: Major Gavin Watts, Lyn Tisdell (15yrs service), Chris Waters (5yrs service), Robert McDonald (20yrs service) and Major Wendy Watts. SALVATIONISTS and friends will have the opportunity to meet The Salvation Army's 20th General at his official welcome meeting, which is being held at the William Booth College in London, United Kingdom. The welcome to General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox (World President of Women's Ministries) at 3.30pm on Sunday 29 September will be followed by a cream tea attended by the international leaders, to which all are invited. The welcome to the General is not the only significant event taking place at the college on the last weekend of September. The new cadets of the Heralds of Grace Session are also being welcomed, with meetings taking place at 6.30pm on Saturday and 10.30am on Sunday. Music at the General's welcome will be provided by Bromley Temple Songsters, a Swiss alpenhorn ensemble and East Midlands Youth Band. The youth band will also support the cadets' meetings. For anyone unable to attend this historic occasion in person, the welcome meeting will be available live on the Internet through the International Headquarters website: sar.my/tv Further details including instructions of how to order lunch at the college between the two Sunday meetings can be found at sar.my/gcwelad Report by the Communications Section International Headquarters
